Poisoning the Gene Pool

* THIS is essentially mocking & scoffing at Almighty GOD the CREATOR.

Dear Reader,

Should you be able to order a baby like you were ordering a Happy Meal?

Imagine being able to determine every single physical characteristic of your child or grandchild before he was even born — just as if you were picking items off of some drive-through menu.

Blonde hair and blue eyes? Check. A couple extra kidneys, just in case? They can probably do that, too.

It sounds like science fiction, but it’s already happening.

Scientists from around the world have begun terrifying experiments to actually change the DNA codes and genetic makeup of human embryos.

It’s part of a movement to create “designer babies” who will supposedly have every genetic advantage researchers can dream up.

But while these scientists are making decisions that are best left to God, they’re changing what it means to be human. And they could be about to unleash new, deadly diseases that will threaten all of us.

Poisoning the gene pool

When researchers first began learning how to alter genes, we were promised new cures for some of the world’s worst diseases.

But instead this research is being used to create genetic freak shows that feel like they’re straight out of a horror movie.

Earlier this year I told you about a government-sponsored experiment on a secret ranch in South Dakota where cows were being given fully human immune systems.

And just last month, how a wacko entrepreneur is getting ready to develop human-pig hybrids that would grow organs for transplants.

But now scientists in China may be on the verge of unleashing the most dangerous DNA disaster the world has seen. They’ve taken a step closer to developing the first ever genetically modified humans.

And experts are warning that the results could be deadly.

It all started at a university in China this spring, when a group of mad scientists used a new technology called CRISPR/Cas9 to change the genetic code of 86 human embryos.

Of course, when word got out that the Chinese were creating genetically altered babies in a lab — and most of the civilized world freaked out — the researchers tried to reassure us with phony promises.

They claimed the embryos couldn’t have gone on to become children (huh… I guess I must have missed something in biology class) and that the experiments were meant to see if they could fix a gene linked to blood disorders.

But other scientists and ethicists say there’s more to these experiments than the Chinese are admitting. In fact, this research is the first step on a slippery slope that leads to “designer babies.”

I’m talking about kids who have had their genes experimented on and changed before they’re even born — all to produce just about any trait you want junior to have.

And these genetic changes don’t just blur the line of what it means to be human. They actually could provide a blueprint for producing new, deadly — and incurable — diseases.

Fifteen of the embryos in the Chinese research died right away. But the other 71 could be where the real trouble begins.

That’s because when you start messing with genes, you can cause mistakes that may create new illnesses we don’t have to deal with today.

And that’s exactly what happened in China. Researchers admitted that in the process of altering human DNA, they made unintended “mutations” in a number of the embryos.

Who knows what those mutations could have turned into if the embryos had been allowed to develop?

The Center for Genetics and Society immediately issued a statement saying that these types of experiments need to stop immediately — at least until we understand all the medical and moral risks.

That makes sense to me. But the message seems to be falling on deaf ears.

Scientists in the U.K have just asked the government to allow them to start their own genetic experiments on human embryos. They want to take “leftover” embryos from fertility clinics — and claim none will be used to make a baby.

But let’s face it — it’s really just a matter of time.

Right now, the U.S. National Institutes of Health has a ban on using public funds for experiments on editing human embryo genes. But creating “designer babies” may be worth billions, so it may not be long before this type of research washes up on our shores.

And when it does, we could end up learning the hard that trying to take decisions about human life out of God’s hands isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

To Your Good Health,

Jenny Thompson

  1. I am very confident that God Almighty will let evil human’s take things only so far. Once God’s red-line-in-the-sand has been crossed, Jesus Christ will return and save us from ourselves.

  2. 20 years ago, Betty Freauf in Oregon, sent me an article published in their local newspaper, The Statesman, I think it was. It described a successful experiment in China where a human embryo was implanted in a female gorilla who carried the baby to term. The purpose was to free the human mother so pregnancy would not hinder her fulltime employment. After the gorilla was delivered of the infant, the human mother was given the baby. Sick! And this was back in the 1990s!

  4. Spacette55 is referring to surrogate mothers. That whole issue has probably not received enough attention. It often relies on creating the embryo in a test tube before being implanted in a woman who’s not the mom. The result is that these babies have a much higher incidence of birth defects. I know such a boy - his parents couldn’t have a baby the normal way and spent tens of 1000’s of dollars to attempt a successful surrogate implant. None took until finally, when the couple was now in their 50’s. The surrogate delivered early. There were twins. One twin died, and the other was kept alive by stomach tubes, breathing tubes etc. in the hospital for a year and a half. He’s now home and actually seems quite bright, reaching normal milestones like walking etc. But at 3-1/2, he still isn’t talking. No one really knows his potential. The family receives lots of financial help from both the community and the grandparents. The govt medical system - not in the US - must have paid the horrendous hospital bill, but I’ve never been told how much that was. The point is, though this boy is darling and I love him, playing G0d is dangerous. If He’d thought these people should have had a child, He would have given them one. They are not the best parents, being they have some dysfunctional personalities, and thus need help with the boy. He’s being mostly raised by the govt, as he goes to “school” 6 days a week from morning until 4 pm or so. They hire help some days to fill in even that short window between return from school and bedtime. There are just some people that shouldn’t be parents. Surrogacy is too easy an avenue for them to circumvent G0d. Oh, and these people consider themselves very religious, though they lack faith. Errrrr

    • How very sad this story is too.

    • Amen Cathy. Playing God is very dangerous. I would like to add organ transplants to that list of things we should not play God with. Every family I know that has had an organ transplant, someone or several someone’s in that family have had major problems. It ain’t worth it. Like surrogate motherhood, it sounds good, the medical profession makes all kinds of promises but it ain’t worth the cost monetarily or emotionally or physically.

    • Cathy, why don’t people just adopt? I am not a woman, but is that “motherhood” gene so overwhelming that people spend so much time/money/energy/misery to have their own. And in this case it wasn’t even her own really. I mean if you get to that point wouldn’t adoption be a viable option?
I have a cousin who did the invitro thing about 20 yrs ago and they about wiped out their retirement. I remember how sad she was for years every time it did not take. They finally did have a baby, and he’s a nice young man. I guess all’s well that ends well there.
Like I said I’m not a woman and I guess I have no idea of the pain involved of those trying to conceive.
It did take my wife and I a few years and testing was begun to find out why. But I guess we got lucky.
To all woman trying pls don’t chop my head off. I said I don’t know. 🙂

    • Steve, I will answer your question. 1) It is very hard to adopt. In fact in some areas Family Services would rather keep children with their bio parents, knowing those parents are abusive, drug addicts, etc, than to remove those children and place them up for adoption in a good home. When we were involved with family services as foster parents, teenage girls would be taken out of the home where Family Servies knew they were being raped, put them in foster homes for six months or so, then return them to that home. Few months later these girls were back in foster care. 2)
Approx 80% of infertility in couples is due to the males sperm. Now I am a producer of food and fiber and in our cattle herd we test bulls on a regular basis to make sure they measure up. Guess what happens to those males that do not perform? Now I am not saying that we should do that to humans but I do believe there are way to many males in our society that do not care about the health of their bodies and thus do things that affect their fertility. Try telling the male species this!
