It’s possible - Right?

Pope Francis has created political controversy, both inside and outside the Catholic Church, by blaming capitalism for many of the problems of the poor. We can no doubt expect more of the same during his visit to the United States.
Pope Francis is part of a larger trend of the rise of the political left among Catholic intellectuals. He is, in a sense, the culmination of that trend.
There has long been a political left among Catholics, as among other Americans. Often they were part of the pragmatic left, as in the many old Irish-run, big city political machines that dispensed benefits to the poor in exchange for their votes, as somewhat romantically depicted in the movie classic, “The Last Hurrah.”
But there has also been a more ideological left. Where the Communists had their official newspaper, “The Daily Worker,” there was also “The Catholic Worker” published by Dorothy Day.
A landmark in the evolution of the ideological left among Catholics was a publication in the 1980s, by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, titled “Pastoral Letter on Catholic Social Teaching and the U.S. Economy.”
Although this publication was said to be based on Catholic teachings, one of its principal contributors, Archbishop Rembert Weakland, said: “I think we should be up front and say that really we took this from the Enlightenment era.”
The specifics of the Bishops’ Pastoral Letter reflect far more of the secular Enlightenment of the 18th century than of Catholic traditions. Archbishop Weakland admitted that such an Enlightenment figure as Thomas Paine “is now coming back through a strange channel.”
Strange indeed. Paine rejected the teachings of “any church that I know of,” including “the Roman church.” He said: “My own mind is my own church.” Nor was Paine unusual among the leading figures of the 18th century Enlightenment.
To base social or moral principles on the philosophy of the 18th century Enlightenment, and then call the result “Catholic teachings” suggests something like bait-and-switch advertising.
But, putting aside religious or philosophical questions, we have more than two centuries of historical evidence of what has actually happened as the ideas of people like those Enlightenment figures were put into practice in the real world — beginning with the French Revolution and its disastrous aftermath.
Both the authors of the Bishops’ Pastoral Letter in the 1980s, and Pope Francis today, blithely throw around the phrase “the poor,” and blame poverty on what other people are doing or not doing to or for “the poor.”

My comments: Will they put someone worse in the Speaker position?
BY JIM HOFT FOR THEGATEWAYPUNDIT.COM
BREAKING—-
Speaker John Boehner will resign from Congress in October and give up the speakership.
The NY Times reported:
Speaker John A. Boehner will resign from Congress and give up his House seat at the end of October, according to aides in his office.
Mr. Boehner was under extreme pressure from the right wing of his conference over whether or not to defund Planned Parenthood in a bill to keep the government open.

Scott Walker dropping out is a good thing. After all, isn’t he on the payroll of the State of Wisconsin? It would seem the responsible thing to do would be to devote one’s full time and energy to the formidable job of governing a state with its own problems rather than chasing the brass ring on the taxpayers’ money.
It was disappointing to hear his little weenie whiney way of withdrawing, however. To decry the lack of positivity in the GOP campaign is to not understand the power in the message of committing to building an impenetrable wall, beginning mass deportations of those who are in the country illegally, and stopping the exportation of our jobs. Scott Walker, like all of the elected elite, just doesn’t get that the electorate that must show up to get the GOP elected has no stomach or patience for political punks like him and Messrs. Bush, Rubio, Cruz, et al - save Donald Trump.
Mr. Trump is far from perfect and certainly isn’t the constitutional purist I’d like to see elected, but he’s the only patriot we’ve got in the field, and he’s the only one I believe who has any chance of undoing the near-death experience the United States has suffered at the hands of Barack Obama.
The best thing that could happen is for the GOP to get solidly behind Mr. Trump, dig deep for every bit of discoverable dirt on the Clintons and begin firing away to absolutely destroy the Left to the point that these traitors can never come back.
The Left would do it to us in a Manhattan millisecond.
Trump gets it - this is the election to act nice and get mean.

Dear Reader,
Should you be able to order a baby like you were ordering a Happy Meal?
Imagine being able to determine every single physical characteristic of your child or grandchild before he was even born — just as if you were picking items off of some drive-through menu.
Blonde hair and blue eyes? Check. A couple extra kidneys, just in case? They can probably do that, too.
It sounds like science fiction, but it’s already happening.
Scientists from around the world have begun terrifying experiments to actually change the DNA codes and genetic makeup of human embryos.
It’s part of a movement to create “designer babies” who will supposedly have every genetic advantage researchers can dream up.
But while these scientists are making decisions that are best left to God, they’re changing what it means to be human. And they could be about to unleash new, deadly diseases that will threaten all of us.
When researchers first began learning how to alter genes, we were promised new cures for some of the world’s worst diseases.
But instead this research is being used to create genetic freak shows that feel like they’re straight out of a horror movie.
Earlier this year I told you about a government-sponsored experiment on a secret ranch in South Dakota where cows were being given fully human immune systems.
And just last month, how a wacko entrepreneur is getting ready to develop human-pig hybrids that would grow organs for transplants.
But now scientists in China may be on the verge of unleashing the most dangerous DNA disaster the world has seen. They’ve taken a step closer to developing the first ever genetically modified humans.
And experts are warning that the results could be deadly.
It all started at a university in China this spring, when a group of mad scientists used a new technology called CRISPR/Cas9 to change the genetic code of 86 human embryos.
Of course, when word got out that the Chinese were creating genetically altered babies in a lab — and most of the civilized world freaked out — the researchers tried to reassure us with phony promises.
They claimed the embryos couldn’t have gone on to become children (huh… I guess I must have missed something in biology class) and that the experiments were meant to see if they could fix a gene linked to blood disorders.
But other scientists and ethicists say there’s more to these experiments than the Chinese are admitting. In fact, this research is the first step on a slippery slope that leads to “designer babies.”
I’m talking about kids who have had their genes experimented on and changed before they’re even born — all to produce just about any trait you want junior to have.
And these genetic changes don’t just blur the line of what it means to be human. They actually could provide a blueprint for producing new, deadly — and incurable — diseases.
Fifteen of the embryos in the Chinese research died right away. But the other 71 could be where the real trouble begins.
That’s because when you start messing with genes, you can cause mistakes that may create new illnesses we don’t have to deal with today.
And that’s exactly what happened in China. Researchers admitted that in the process of altering human DNA, they made unintended “mutations” in a number of the embryos.
Who knows what those mutations could have turned into if the embryos had been allowed to develop?
The Center for Genetics and Society immediately issued a statement saying that these types of experiments need to stop immediately — at least until we understand all the medical and moral risks.
That makes sense to me. But the message seems to be falling on deaf ears.
Scientists in the U.K have just asked the government to allow them to start their own genetic experiments on human embryos. They want to take “leftover” embryos from fertility clinics — and claim none will be used to make a baby.
But let’s face it — it’s really just a matter of time.
Right now, the U.S. National Institutes of Health has a ban on using public funds for experiments on editing human embryo genes. But creating “designer babies” may be worth billions, so it may not be long before this type of research washes up on our shores.
And when it does, we could end up learning the hard that trying to take decisions about human life out of God’s hands isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
To Your Good Health,
Jenny Thompson

Volkswagen’s alleged installation of emissions-beating software is a huge story that is just beginning and carries a message from all automakers that governments - especially ours - don’t want to hear.
The message is this: Governments - especially ours and particularly the man-child Obama who just makes stories up and calls them facts - are setting impossible-to-meet standards that have no basis in reality.
Automakers are being forced to replace quality materials with plastic, steel bumpers and re-enforcements with foam wrapped in plastic bumpers as well as many other compromises, including under-powering cars, in an effort to make them lighter in order to meet the government-imposed requirements for mileage and emissions that are impossible to meet.
We should not be surprised if this software deception has been employed in many other makes than just Volkswagen - and is happening both with European and American-branded cars and trucks.
Obama’s fantasy-based climate-change bull crap has met its technological match, but Obama and other world government really don’t care about the environment and know better than to believe their own lies.
This is going to be a motherlode of revenue - another transference of wealth that Obama and his fellow socialists/communists love - through the fines and penalties that will be levied against automakers who chose to lie instead of standing up to governing fools.
