What the Nation Gets with a Free Public Education

My comments: Sadly, I’m not surprised, the destruction of American education has gone on now since the late 1800’s, but really took a nose dive in 1985, and 1988 when Ronald Reagan gave us the US/Soviet education agreements which eliminated academic teaching. What we now have is the Soviet Polytech form of dog training, and teaching to the test, which is Pavlovian/Skinnerian training. Today’s high school graduates cannot read, write, spell, do math, or articulate a proper sentence. Their ability to logic out a problem is non-existant. This is workforce training…little robots who will do what the government tells them to do.

  1. Amen. One of the ladies I quilt with was a former teacher and her grandchildren attend private schools. They have attended private schools in various parts of the country because her sons and their fathers move frequently because of employment. She sees absolutely nothing wrong with the educational system in our country which is based on her grandchildren’s experience. However, she has told us that the private schools her grandchildren attend will continue to teach cursive writing and writing in general. As you know, the public schools have ditched cursive writing and probably writing altogether. The question I asked at quilting when this discussion came up was: “If these private schools are continuing to teach cursive writing and the public schools are not, does that not widen the gap between the so-called haves and have-nots?” To me it does. This is not a money issue, this is an administrative decision made by those in charge of public schools. It costs no more or no less to teach cursive writing than it does any other subject because, to me at least, cursive writing can be incorporated into all other subjects. But hey I am not a teacher so who am I to question the experts????

    • The purposeful destruction of education has been going on for decades, actually started back in the late 1800s, Dewey…but now it’s reached a crescendo to where these little ones are only taught what the feds want them to know. And it is no longer academic education, I should probably post some articles I’ve written on what is happening, and has happened in education. The only think I can say is homeschool or private school, otherwise your children will just be the little robots the govt. wants for workforce training.

  2. OMG that was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Yet they all knew Snookie.
I guess I’m lucky because my son who’s in the PS system in Fl I know could answer most if not all those questions.
I’ve watched his curriculum and it is not bad at all. The only thing is he was not taught cursive. It bothered me to no end. My wife
(who’s a pre school teacher) didn’t think it was a big deal. Anyway from what I hear they have now added it back to the curriculum.

    • So, you can teach him yourself…cursive is really very easy, the elimination of cursive was done by Jebby Bush who is behind all common core filth.

    • CZ, I have sorta. He can read it fairly well. And he can sign his name. So that should do it.
That was my whole point. Someday his boss would jot a note in cursive and say go do this. No one seemed to think that was a possibility. Like everything would be email or text.
So I showed him how to read cursive and he’ll get by.
