Homeland Security Conceals “Secret Plan to Cut Cell Service” During Emergencies

Homeland Security used the kill switch to shut off service to cell phones in order to stifle a San Francisco protest

As communications become increasingly important to online life, and political expression, Homeland Security and law enforcement wield powerful new tools to regulate the signal and control the masses, particularly during crises.

Lawsuits by the Electronic Privacy Information Center have hinged around disclosure of a secret plan that gives the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) the ability to cut cell service and black out communications across entire cities, or on specific areas.

How extensively the plan has been developed remains unknown, as legal action so far has failed to declassify the digital tool of mass control.

via Ars Technica:

The Supreme Court is setting aside a petition from the Electronic Privacy Information Center that demanded the Department of Homeland Security release the US government’s secret plan to shutter mobile phone service during disasters.

… ruling that the DHS did not have to divulge the full contents of Standard Operating Procedure 303. That court held that… disclosure would “endanger” public safety.

Under the direction of the so-called National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee, SOP 303 allows for the shutting down of wireless networks “within a localized area, such as a tunnel or bridge, and within an entire metropolitan area.” … Local governments, however, have the power to shutter wireless service regardless of SOP 303.

Like all great emergency powers, this high tech control plan has already been abused. Homeland Security used the kill switch to shut off service to cell phones in order to stifle a San Francisco protest:

The privacy group had demanded the document in 2011 following the shuttering of cell service in the San Francisco Bay Area subway system to quell a protest.

… a “unified voluntary process for the orderly shut-down and restoration of wireless services during critical emergencies such as the threat of radio-activated improvised explosive devices.” (Here is a copy of a heavily redacted version (PDF) of the protocol that EPIC’s lawsuit produced.)

Like other non-lethal weapons brought on the scene of post-9/11 crowd control situations, DHS’ kill switch features the patent ability to dial down to a specific location, or broaden the cellular interruption devices to a city-wide area.

These are enormous powers that will be used during crises of all types – and already it poses a danger to the civil rights that expressly protect the right to assemble, give redress of grievances and speak freely – including across cell phone signals.

Interruption and black outs could impose directly on these rights, and be used in the name of prevent riots, terror attacks or shades of martial law during emergency situations.

As Joshua Krause argues at Ready Nutrition, there are alternate ways to communicate that could be effective during an emergency where the government institutes a denial of access attack on the population’s cell service.

At first glace, there is little potential for these devices when the grid goes down… However, don’t be too quick to scoff at the prepping potential of these devices. It’s fairly easy to create a local wifi network (aka ad hoc network) between computers that are within range of each other. This would allow people living on the same street or in the same apartment building to talk to each other, provided they can generate their own electricity. The better solution would be to create a local network with cell phones that isn’t reliant on any infrastructure…

If the grid is down long enough, eventually some enterprising citizens would start to provide courier services. Whether it’s by foot or by bicycle, they will fill an important niche that other items on this list can’t provide, and that is a secure form of communication. If you had to send a message to someone who lives out of the range of your radio or wifi network, and you needed that message to remain a secret, writing that message down and sending someone out to deliver it by hand would be the only way to do it.

It is possible to use wifi and cell phones – even during a grid down scenario – to communicate through mesh networks (using modest amounts of alternate power). Walkie talkies, CB and Ham radio systems will also be important during emergencies, as will old-fashioned courier services using a network of trusted messengers and whatever the quickest form of available transportation is during the situation.

Don’t forget to prepare back-up communications gear in a Faraday cage so that these options will remain viable in an EMP event as well.

Kelli Ward – the Constitution, small government, personal responsibility

By Linda Bentley

[]

CAVE CREEK – Dr. Kelli Ward, the emergency room physician and former Arizona State Senator who recently resigned to campaign full time against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., visited Sonoran News last week.

Ward said “Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) was the last straw,” that prompted her to run.

As far as health care goes, Ward said patients should always come first and we need to preserve the patient doctor relationship.

She said, government bureaucrats and insurance industry lobbyists are not doctors and don’t put patients first.

Calling Obamacare a disaster for patients, doctors, and taxpayers, Ward believes it must be fully repealed in favor of free market solutions and said, “When doctors and patients cut out the middle-men, healthcare is more affordable and far less complicated.”

But as a doctor, who is married to a doctor and whose mother is a pediatrician, Ward sees Obamacare as a choice-eliminating, unaffordable mandate that is not only punishing employers who provided health insurance to their employees, but individuals who can’t afford health insurance, imposing stiff fines for not purchasing insurance they can’t afford.

She said it is also taking a toll on the profession itself with less people inclined to enter the field of medicine because the cost of education is no longer worth the small return on that investment, which is now regulated by the government rather than by the free marketplace.

In other words, you cannot add government to an already costly system of delivering health care and expect the cost to go down.

Since the passage of Obamacare, Ward said there has been a huge increase in people using emergency rooms, the most expensive means of delivering health care services, as their primary care facility.

Ward believes government has become too intrusive in our lives and said people need to take personal responsibility for the bad choices they make.

She wants to eliminate the current policy of rewarding people for their bad choices, such as having children they can’t afford to raise, paying welfare benefits to those who shouldn’t even be here or those too lazy to work and rewarding illegal aliens with benefits, jobs and legal status, to name a few.

As a parent, Ward said she and her husband taught their children the difference between right and wrong and, while they always hoped their children would make the right choices, if they didn’t, they expected consequences.

Ward strongly supports the U.S. Constitution and says the Second Amendment must be protected as one of our most treasured liberties.

She believes government needs to adjust its policies so people can obtain good jobs that provide them with dignity and independence.

Ward said securing the border has been one of the most pressing issues for Arizonans and must be our priority, not providing amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.

Because education is tied to the economy and jobs, Ward said, “We need to stop letting faraway politicians micromanage our children’s education. Politicians in Washington don’t know what’s best for kids in Arizona – we as parents do.”

Ward believes “big government schemes” like Common Core must be defeted.

And when we asked Ward who she supported for president, she replied, “Whoever the Republican nominee ends up being.”

MUSLIM LEADER: “If we are practicing Muslims, we are above the law of the land”

The Director of the Dallas Council on American- Islamic Relations (CAIR), Mustafa Carroll, made a surprising and shocking statement during a Muslim rally in Austin, Texas.

He said, “If we are practicing Muslims, we are above the law of the land.”

He firmly believes that the message of the Qur’an is supreme over the United States constitution.

The statement would be shocking to most citizens of the United States, unless they had some perspective on who CAIR really is.

CAIR is the nation’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Their headquarters is located in Washington D.C. They use lobbyists, the media, and action alerts to promote a positive image of Islam in America during a time when Radical Muslims (ISIS) in other parts of the world are crucifying children in the name of Allah, and quoting the Koran (Though the Obama Administration has a hard time calling it ‘Radical Islam’ for fear of offending regular Muslims).

In 2007 the Holy Land Foundation trial found the Holy Land Foundation Charity guilty of funneling millions of dollars back to the terrorist organization Hamas. Interestingly enough, CAIR was among the organizations named during the trial as unindicted co-conspirators. To put that into perspective, the 37th president of the United States, Richard Nixon, was named an unindicted co-conspirator during the Watergate Trial.

In 2011 and 2012, during an event that The Blaze covered extensively, Islamic institutes coordinated with the White House to target the counter terrorism training within the FBI. The event was called ‘The Purge,’ and the result was the removal of more than 700 documents and 300 presentations. Some of the presentations removed included information about Al Qaeda and the trainers within the FBI were allegedly not given the opportunity to appeal when their presentations were rejected. They were not even allowed to know who it was that was objecting to their work. CAIR was one of the institutes that pushed for this event.

In 2014, the United Arab Emirates placed CAIR, along with 81 other groups, on its list of terrorist organizations. Some believe the action was to done to show a stand against the Terrorist Organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, who seized power in Egypt during the Arab Spring. It should be noted that members of the Obama Administration openly endorsed the events in Egypt that led to the Muslim Brotherhood taking power, likening it to the Civil Rights Movement in America. It has been suspected that CAIR has had ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, and currently, the Obama administration is working to get CAIR removed from the list of terrorist groups.

The world has seen many movements that believe they are above the law of the land. Everything from religion (ISIS) to atheism (Church burnings), from Nationalism (Nazis) to Communism (Stalin), and from Judges who do not follow the Constitution (Roberts) to members of Congress who openly admit to not reading the bills they sign into law (Pelosi). The world has seen unimaginable horrors when these ideas take root, and if Mustafa Caroll is expressing the unofficial and hidden beliefs of his organization, that practicing Muslims are above the law, it would only make sense that CAIR is meeting with and advising a man in the White House who also believes he is above the law of the land.

Obama’s New Appointee To Head The FDA Is A Big Pharma Mega-Lobbyist

By Jeffrey Phillips for WEARECHANGE.ORG

President Obama’s recent nominee to chair the Food and Drug Administration has drawn harsh criticism for his ties to the pharmaceutical industry. The disapproval grew more justified this week as it was revealed that until this year, nominee Dr. Robert Califf was a board member and consultant for a company whose sole purpose is to help pharmaceutical companies evade and manipulate FDA regulations. He currently serves as the FDA’s deputy commissioner for medical products and tobacco and awaits Senate confirmation to become Deputy Commissioner of the agency.

Faculty Connection, LLC, where Califf served from 2006 to 2015, claims the company “brings together physicians and researchers from leading academic institutions with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device clients.”

As the Intercept reported, Faculty Connection, LLC “boasts that its team of ‘practicing university-based physicians and researchers’ provides ‘regulatory consulting,’ including expertise in FDA briefing reviews and other regulatory submissions to the agency.”

Further, an official corporate video notes the company has “served over 175 different pharma, biotech medical device firms,” claiming to help faculty — researchers, doctors, and academics — work side-by-side with the pharmaceutical industry.

For example, Dr. Mona Fiuzat’s, a consultant for Facult Connection, LLC, “participated in the preparation for Cardio-renal Advisory Committee presentations to the FDA on behalf of drug sponsors,” according to her biography on the company’s website.

Califf previously came under fire for helping to establish the Duke Clinical Research Institute, which is funded primarily by pharmaceutical companies. According to a 2014 “Conflict of Interest Disclosure,” Cahill admitted his close connection to the industry. As TIME summarized, his income is “contractually underwritten in part by several large pharmaceutical companies, including Merck, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly and Novartis. He also receives as much as $100,000 a year in consulting fees from some of those companies, and from others.” The FDA insists Cahill donates his private income to nonprofits.

Even so, Califf’s appointment is hardly surprising. Michael Taylor, the current Deputy Commissioner for Foods at the FDA — also appointed by Barack Obama — used to be Monsanto’s vice president for public policy.

Collusion between corporations and the FDA is widely documented. This influence has presumably contributed to many questionable decisions, such as the FDA’s approval of oxycontin for children or the ongoing approval of countless dangerous drugs that are later recalled.

Califf, however, put a positive spin on his conflict of interest. Earlier this year — when he was a only a potential nominee — he told TIME he was a valuable candidate because it would be “useful to have someone [leading the FDA] who understands how companies operate because you’re interacting with them all the time.”

In spite of Califf’s rhetoric, sordid ties like his continually prove the depths of corruption and the state’s lack of concern for the people it is tasked with protecting. In the United States, 70% of Americans consume pharmaceutical pills — a figure that, perhaps, reveals the consequences of placing corporate puppet masters in charge.

Is a Balanced Budget Amendment a Good Idea?

BY SUE LONG
At first blush, a Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) outright or a petition for Congress to call a constitutional convention under the guise of proposing a BBA sounds like a good idea, but it needs to be given more consideration.
A Balanced Budget Amendment would actually increase the power of the federal government, because the only restriction on spending would be the amount of money to be spent on what is now unconstitutional rather than the restrictions of limiting spending to the listed actions authorized in the Constitution. A BBA would
legitimize the longstanding usurpations of powers by federal officials, thereby further moving our nation away from its founding as a constitutional republic (rule of law) and toward being a democracy (rule of men).
If spending cuts could not be agreed upon, and what are the odds on that one, then it would be necessary to raise taxes or print more money in order to achieve the balance. For more: http://www.newswithviews.com/Publius/huldah136.htm/ Most drafts of BBAs have loopholes; exemptions from balancing the budget could
be allowed such as in the event of variously defined national emergencies. How hard would it be to do that? It could be a war, or if our national security is threatened. How often is that not the case?
A Balanced Budget Amendment Article V Convention would be a threat to the Constitution because it would have the inherent power to be a runaway convention that could make harmful changes in the Constitution, including a new ratification procedure; or, it could even be completely rewritten and substituted with a Sovietstyle
The Constitution is not the problem. Changing it is not the solution.
Legislators who do not honor their oaths of office and abide by the Constitution are the problem. Changing the legislators is the solution.
What can you do about it? Contact your state delegate and senator. Virginia has been targeted to pass a petition to Congress to call a constitutional convention in order to get a BBA. There are only seven more states needed to reach the required number of 34 to pass such a petition. Although it would ostensibly be for the purpose of getting a BBA, once convened the delegates can make the rules and vote
on anything.
Ask your legislators to vote NO to any and all petitions for such a convention.
