Riot Training Readies Reporters for Convention Violence

As passions rage, reporters are being taught to avoid street violence from protesters, ‘party militants’ and police

If confrontations at Donald Trump rallies are any indication, the Republican National Convention in July may see some of the most exciting – and potentially violent – street protests in recent years, and reporters are being schooled on how to ride out the chaos.

It’s not cheap, but a group that usually prepares journalists and nonprofit workers for problems in sub-Saharan Africa or conflict zones in Syria and Afghanistan is finding convention concerns great enough for news outlets to justify special training.

A two-day course from Global Journalist Security scheduled for early May will feature realistic simulations with “protesters” and “party militants” and already has signed up reporters from a major news wire and a prominent new media company, organizers say.

With a price tag of $1,195, the convention training likely is beyond the reach of most student journalists, rent-overdue freelancers and people with their own low-traffic blogs. But it could help well-financed outfits avoid legal and medical costs, and spare PR departments from having to defend employee behavior.

EXPLOSIVE study exposes the truth about low-fat diet

* Note taken from The Daily Dose with Jack Harrison - 4/23/16

It’s the biggest bombshell in modern nutrition… and it’s been sitting under a pile of dust in a Minnesota basement for nearly half a century!

A box marked “Minnesota Coronary Survey” that had stayed unopened since it was conducted in the late 1960s and early 1970s reveals that EVERYTHING you’ve been told about your diet is a big, fat lie.

That box holds the data to a study so vast and sweeping that the New York Times declared it “one of the largest controlled clinical dietary trials of its kind ever conducted.”

But the data was never analyzed or published… until now.

More than 9,000 patients in hospitals and nursing homes were put on either a diet low in fats and high in vegetable oils — one that meets almost perfectly current U.S. government-backed nutritional guidelines — or one with nearly DOUBLE the levels of saturated fat and much lower levels of vegetable oils.

Just as you’d expect, the folks on the low-fat diet saw their cholesterol levels positively plunge.

They reached levels that would have your own doc jumping for joy.

But then something happened… something that caused this study to get locked in a basement for decades: The low-fat, low-cholesterol patients didn’t live longer.

Heck, they began dropping like dominoes!

Every 30 mg/dL drop in cholesterol — numbers your doc would LOVE to see if they turned up on your tests — increased the risk of an early death by 22 percent.

That’s already a huge risk. But given that the statin drugs used today can drop your own cholesterol by 100 mg/dL or more, that adds up fast, potentially boosting your odds of kicking the bucket by two-thirds or more.

So why was the study locked up for so long? No one knows for sure, but we can guess.

The main researcher behind the study was Dr. Ivan Frantz Jr., an evangelist for the low-fat movement and a close associate of Ancel Keys.

If Frantz was an evangelist, Keys was the pope — because he spent his career demonizing animal fats. Keys led the movement that ultimately produced the low-fat guidelines backed by the feds since the 1960s.

This study proved EVERYTHING they had worked for was wrong. It’s so at odds with “official” thinking that the researchers today who finally crunched the numbers didn’t believe it.

Not at first.

So they looked at data from FOUR other studies where saturated fat was replaced by vegetable oils — and they found that same thing: the lower the cholesterol, the HIGHER the death risk.

Maybe they just should’ve been reading the Daily Dose, because that’s exactly what we’ve said all along!

Bottom line here is that if you want to live a longer, healthier life, don’t give up the fats…and DON’T cut your cholesterol. Give up the carbs, BOOST your fats, and watch your cholesterol levels rise.

Your doc might hate it, but don’t worry… you’ll probably outlive him.

Blowing away guidelines,
Jack Harrison

NOW THE GERMANS TURN ON OBAMA

Thousands of trade deal foes rally in Germany on Obama visit eve

April 23, 2026

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trade-deal-foes-plan-major-german-rally-eve-052441697.html

Hanover (Germany) (AFP) - Tens of thousands of opponents of a proposed transatlantic trade deal poured onto German streets Saturday on the eve of a visit by US President Barack Obama.

A loose coalition of trade unions, environmentalists and consumer protection groups in the northern city of Hanover said they drew a crowd of 90,000 to a march and rally outside the city’s opera house.

Police mobilised a large force to keep the peace and put attendance at 35,000.

Obama’s trip — to open an industrial technology fair and hold talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel and other European leaders — was intended to lend momentum to flagging efforts to see the world’s biggest trade pact finalised this year.

On a visit to London on Saturday, Obama sought to address sceptics’ fears head-on, admitting that some past trade agreements had “served the interests of large corporations and not necessarily of workers in the countries that participate in them”.

The Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) has run into major opposition, not least in Europe’s top economy Germany, where critics have raised the spectre of eroding ecological and labour market standards and condemned secrecy shrouding the talks.

As the whistle-blowing crowd moved through Hanover in unseasonably cold weather, one banner reading “Don’t give TTIP a chance” featured the image of a bull tagged “privatisation” and a cow branded “democracy”.

A mock coffin was emblazoned with the words “Democracy killed by money”.

Dieter Berlin, a 73-year-old pensioner, attended the rally with his wife Hanna, waving a banner reading “No GMOs on our plates” in a reference to genetically modified foods.

Berlin said he had turned out over fears of a race to the bottom with free trade.

“We want to keep our educational standards, not adopt the American educational system. And we want to hold onto our environmental standards too,” he said.

His friend Heino Kirchhof, 73, said TTIP would widen the gulf “between poor and rich — that is going to threaten the stability of the world.”

Another demonstrator, 38-year-old Ladislav Jelinek of the Czech Republic, said he worried that pollution and food safety protections could be hollowed out by the treaty.

“There is no need to damage the environment more than we already did,” he said. “European society doesn’t need to progress at the expense of animals, water and the air.”

- Support in freefall -

A similar protest in October in Berlin drew up to 250,000 people, according to organisers, signalling an uphill battle for the deal’s passage.

In a video statement on Saturday, Merkel insisted that TTIP would not ride roughshod over citizens’ rights or interests.

“We don’t want people to have the impression that something is being hushed up here, or that norms are being undermined. The opposite is true,” she said.

In what she called a “win-win situation”, Europe and the United States had the opportunity to agree on environmental and consumer protection principles that, due to the massive size of the market, “could set global standards”.

After talks with Obama on Friday, British Prime Minister David Cameron also insisted TTIP “would add billions to our economies and set the standards for the rest of the world to follow”.

The Hanover meeting comes just before a 13th round of TTIP negotiations starts in New York on Monday.

But scepticism in the face of those arguments is growing in Germany, and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel admitted this week: “It is possible that TTIP will fail.”

Just 17 percent of Germans say they support TTIP, according to a Bertelsmann Foundation poll of more than 3,000 people published Thursday, well down on the 55 percent registered two years ago.

During the same period, firm opposition to the pact rose to 33 percent from 25 percent.

The picture in the United States is hardly more promising.

The “Yes” camp has shrunk to 15 percent from 53 percent, while nearly half — 46 percent — say they feel too ill-informed to have an opinion.

Given the lack of political capital available to a “lame duck” president, US and European analysts said, the White House was more likely to aggressively pursue ratification of one of Obama’s signal achievements, the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal (TPP) with Asia, than to struggle to complete negotiations on TTIP.

Maine Governor GOES OFF on Ted Cruz Camp for Stealing Trump Delegates

Ted Cruz’s campaign faced more allegations of dirty tricks

Maine Republican Governor Paul LePage endorsed Donald Trump for president in February before the Maine primary caucus.

Cruz won the state with 12 delegates. Trump was second with 9 delegates followed by John Kasich with 2 delegates.

This week the Cruz campaign, like they’ve done is several states, are cheating and stealing delegates from Trump at the state convention.

But this time Governor Paul LePage went off on the Cruz campaign for stealing delegates.
…No doubt the Ted Cruz supporters and FOX News will call this a “good ground game.”

Ted Cruz’s campaign faced more allegations of dirty tricks after the Maine governor, Paul LePage, took to Facebook to condemn the Texas senator’s campaign as being run by “greedy political hooligans.”

The fiery and controversial governor claimed on Friday that the Trump and Cruz campaigns had previously reached a “unity deal” to elect delegates to the national convention in proportion to results of the Pine Tree state’s 5 March caucuses.

Such an allocation would deliver 12 Cruz delegates, nine for Trump and two for John Kasich, the Ohio governor.

However, LePage, a Trump supporter, said on the eve of Maine’s state convention that the Cruz campaign had reneged on the deal, believing they could fill all 20 elected delegate slots on the ballot. “I can’t stand by and watch as Cruz and the Republican establishment forcibly overrule the votes of Mainers who chose Trump and Kasich,” said LePage.

While delegates are bound on the first ballot according to the results of state primaries and caucuses, they are unbound on subsequent ballots if a contested convention occurs. Such votes would have nothing to do with the results from the states and be solely decided by the individual delegates.

The Guardian can confirm there was discussion of a unity slate in Maine; sources disagree on whether a deal was ever reached.

Here is Governor LePage’s statement on Facebook condemning the Cruz camp’s dirty tricks.

Governor LePage Calls on Ted Cruz to Condemn Dirty Tricks by Campaign Operative at GOP Convention

AUGUSTA – Governor Paul R. LePage released a statement today opposing the underhanded tactics being used by operatives for Ted Cruz’s national campaign at the Maine Republican Convention.

“Maine Republicans cast their votes at caucus and elected 12 delegates for Ted Cruz, 9 for Donald Trump and 2 for John Kasich,” said Governor LePage. “We reached a deal with Cruz’s national camp…aign to put up a unity slate that would honor the wishes of the thousands of Mainers who voted at caucus. But Cruz’s Northeast Political Director David Sawyer lied to us and broke the deal. Sawyer stabbed us in the back, reneged on the unity slate and betrayed the Maine people.”

“As we have seen throughout the country, Cruz’s national campaign is run by greedy political hooligans. These are the same operatives in the Republican Establishment who worked for Mitt Romney to disenfranchise Maine delegates in 2012. They are using sneaky and deceitful operators like Sawyer to try to subvert the democratic process and take all 23 delegates. I can’t stand by and watch as Cruz and the Republican Establishment forcibly overrule the votes of Mainers who chose Trump and Kasich.”

“Not only are Cruz’s national campaign operatives trying to suppress delegates for Trump and Kasich, but they are also besmirching the efforts of the many good Maine Republicans who are Cruz supporters. They, too, deserve better than these devious machinations by professional political operators from the Republican Establishment who are scheming to stifle the voice of Mainer voters.”

“I call on Senator Cruz to condemn Sawyer’s disrespectful and dishonest tactics in Maine. Cruz is an honorable man, and I am confident that he will do the right thing by Maine people.”

VA Gov Gives 200,000 Felons Voting Rights; ‘Move to boost Clinton’

The move, coming in a presidential election year, outraged Republicans

Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed an executive order Friday restoring the voting rights of 206,000 ex-felons, a sweeping action the governor said was aimed largely at rectifying Virginia’s “long and sad history” of suppressing African-American voting power

The move, coming in a presidential election year, outraged Republicans who accused McAuliffe of abusing his power to help longtime ally Hillary Clinton win a battleground state by putting more likely Democratic voters on the books.

The governor’s order applies to all violent and nonviolent felons who had finished their sentence and supervised release as of Friday, even those who have not applied for a restoration of rights. Previous Virginia governors have restored rights on an individual basis, but none has done it for an entire category of offenders with one pen stroke.

Bizarre new side effect of common painkiller

Used to be you were defined by how well you handled pain — not how quickly you ran from it.

This country was built on the backs of hard-working men and women who didn’t stop to gripe about sore backs and creaky knees. And when it came time to defend our freedom in far-away battlefields, no one crawled around the trenches looking for some Tylenol.

I’m not saying you need to simply deal with pain of any kind, but today’s “adults” reach for the pill bottle for every little stubbed toe.

We’re becoming a nation of wimps!

Now, the latest research shows just one way the quest to ease pain can hurt you in other ways — because it turns out taking Tylenol can transform a careful perfectionist into a mistake-prone klutz.

The drug doesn’t just dull pain. It dulls the BRAIN so much that you could turn into a world-class screw-up without even realizing it.

In the new study, volunteers were given either 1,000 mg of acetaminophen (a.k.a. Tylenol) or nothing at all, then given some reaction tests.

They were plopped in front of a computer, connected to a brain scanner and told to hit a certain button whenever the letter “F” came on the screen, and NOT hit the button if it was the letter “E.”

Of course the folks messed up at least some of the time. But the ones on Tylenol didn’t seem to realize it. When they hit the button at the wrong time they had lower levels of the brain waves we get when we know we’ve screwed up.

This is just a silly test on a computer. But it begs the question: What the heck goes on when you take the med and step outside in the real world?

The possibilities are limitless, from saying some dopey thing you’d normally know you shouldn’t to stepping off a curb and in front of a car — and that’s hardly the only way the drug messes with your mind.

Studies show the drug an also turn you into an emotional zombie, turning down your feelings until you’re duller than an old butter knife.

And let’s not forget how easy it is to OD on the drug, which can lead to liver failure and even death.

All for a drug that doesn’t work very well anyway — because studies show it’s practically worthless for common pains such as backaches and arthritis.

Fortunately, you’ve got better options — painkillers that work without turning your mind to mush.

For life’s every day aches and pains, I recommend Soothanol XL, made by my friends and affiliates at NorthStar Nutritionals. Just a drop or two rubbed into trouble spots can chase those troubles away!

Spinal Fusion Operations are Not Good

* Do our loved ones & friends KNOW ?
* Note taken from Health Sciences Institute e-Alert - Jenny Thompson - 4/22/16

Dear Reader,

It’s one of the most dangerous and potentially life-wrecking surgeries around.

But the mainstream would have you believe that it’s as routine as a dental cleaning.

If you or someone you love has been suffering from chronic back pain, there’s a good chance you’re going to hear all about the wonders of spinal fusion surgery.

A surgeon fuses bones in your spine together with grafts, plates, rods, and screws — and they’re meant to stay there for the rest of your life.

But despite all the big promises the mainstream is making, a new study has found that spinal fusions are doing a better job of making surgeons rich than healing backs.

And if you’re not careful, this risky operation could shorten or even end your life — all without doing a thing to relieve your pain.

Watch your back

It looks like when some surgeons examine your spine, all they see are dollar signs.

And lots of them.

A report by CBS News a couple years back found that the number of spinal fusion surgeries had increased by a whopping 70 percent in just 10 years.

And, trust me, it’s not because our backs are getting worse. It’s because a spinal fusion operation can cost upwards of $150,000 — and some surgeons are performing hundreds of them a year.

But while spinal fusions are creating a new round of mainstream millionaires, lots of patients are ending up in more pain and misery than ever before.

Some are even dying.

A new study out of Sweden took a look at just how useless spinal fusion operations often are, and how much damage they’re causing.

Researchers from the Stockholm Spine Center followed nearly 250 patients who were treated for spinal stenosis, a condition where the spinal canal narrows and nerves get pinched.

It’s also a common reason lots of people end up getting spinal fusion.

Patients received either a decompression procedure or decompression combined with fusion. (In decompression surgery a doctor cuts away pieces of bone to relieve the pressure on spinal nerves.)

After five years, the folks who got spinal fusion didn’t fare any better than the people who didn’t. They weren’t walking any better, weren’t in any less pain, and their quality of life didn’t improve one bit.

In other words, the fusion surgery was totally useless. It was $150,000 flushed right down the toilet.

And while spinal fusion didn’t do a thing to relieve patients’ pain, it put lots of them right in harm’s way.

Patients in the fusion group spent almost twice as long in the hospital, which meant lost work, more exposure to hospital-acquired infections and a bigger risk of side effects.

And that’s not all. In spinal fusion, problems like blood clots are common. It can even cause nerve damage that can make you lose sensation in your legs and destroy your bladder and bowel control.

One study found that when fusions are complex, as many as one in 20 of these procedures can lead to complications that could even kill you.

When you’re suffering from chronic back pain, you’ll do anything for relief. And the mainstream will bend over backwards to make you think that spinal fusion is the answer to your prayers.

But the fact is, before you sign on the dotted line for any surgical procedure on your spine — whether it’s decompression, fusion, or anything else — it’s important to be aware of the non-surgical options available.

For example:

  • Chiropractic treatments may be able to help open up the space between the vertebrae and relieve some of the pressure on nerves.
  • Acupuncture has been found in several studies to be incredibly effective (and safe) when it comes to relieving back pain.
  • Lumbar braces or corsets can help give support if you have weak abdominal muscles and help you regain more strength and movement in your back.

Whatever you try, remember that spinal fusion is a risky procedure that may do more to fatten your surgeon’s bottom line than help your back pain.

It’s a last resort, not the first option.

To Your Good Health,

Jenny Thompson
