Doctors against vaccines - These physicians actually did the research

(NaturalNews) These following doctors were not content with half-truths, propaganda, and lies. They did their own research.

Nancy Banks, M.D.

Dr. Banks earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. She also earned an MBA in finance from Pace university. She completed her internship and residency at Saint Luke’s Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital and Medical Center. She is a board certified ObGyn.

If you look at the ingredients of vaccines you’ll find that they have mercury, and they have aluminum and the vaccines are polluted with other kinds of viruses and the vaccines are grown, sometimes on human tissue. So these are vaccines that have elements that are neurotoxic and then of course they have other elements that can set up autoimmune reactions. So those are the kinds of things that we’re seeing in the children; we are seeing autoimmune reactions.

Toni Bark, M.D.

Dr. Bark has earned a B.S. in psychology from the University of Illinois, and her M.D. from Rush Medical School. She completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of Illinois. After directing the Pediatric Emergency Room at Michael Reese Hospital, she began her study of homeopathic medicine. She has also earned a masters degree in healthcare emergency management from Boston University. In 2012 she became Vice President of the American Institute of Homeopathy. A highly educated physician, she has done the research.

…The kids that come to me from other practices and are fully vaccinated often are the kids, well they are the kids in my practice with asthma, panic disorders, OCD, PANDAS [pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections], autism, Asperger’s. My kids who never have been vaccinated in my practice, I don’t see those issues. I don’t have one child who was not vaccinated who also has asthma or food allergies or Asperger’s or autism or Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis.

Meryl Nass, M.D., ABIM

Meryl Nass is no stranger to research. She earned a B.S. in biology from MIT. She worked as a lab technician for two years in the Immunology Department at John Curtin School of Medical Research. She earned her medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School and the University of Mississippi Medical School. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Afterwards, she worked as an emergency room physician for 14 years. She also taught internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She currently works as an internist and hospitalist at Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor Maine.

Prevnar was licensed with a big clinical trial conducted at Kaiser in Northern California with 38,000 children. Half received the Prevnar 7 vaccine, and half received an experimental vaccine for Neisseria meningitidis type C – type C meningococcal vaccine. Now, that seemed a little odd to me. I mean…the control was another vaccine. That’s a problem. But that’s pretty common, because you don’t really know what the side effect profile is if you compare one vaccine to another, because each causes side effects. You don’t have an inert placebo for comparison.

…Children don’t usually die suddenly when they’re healthy; and you have to find a reason for that. There are certainly lots of teenage girls who have died relatively suddenly after Gardasil or developed severe neurological reactions.

Jack Wolfson, D.O.

Dr. Wolfson earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois. Afterwards he earned D.O. at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board certified in cardiology. Before meeting his future wife, Heather, he began to realize that conventional medicine was not preventing disease or curing disease, but merely treating the symptoms. Heather, a chiropractor, brought him into the world of holistic healing. He and Heather are now married with two kids, and neither of them are unvaccinated..

A prestigious journal reported that men who had measles and mumps as children suffered 29% less heart attacks and 17% less strokes! Women with a history of both infections had a 17% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and 21% lower risk of stroke. The journal Atherosclerosis recently published these shocking findings in the June 2015 issue (1).

By my calculations, natural infection with the measles and mumps will prevent millions of heart attacks and strokes. Why is this information not all over the TV and Internet? I will tell you why. Because mainstream media is in bed with Big Pharma who pay their bills. The politicians are slaves to their corporate masters. Our children should be exposed to every virus and bacteria for which a vaccine exists.

Lee Hieb, M.D.

Dr. Hieb received her undergraduate from Grinell College and the University of Iowa. She earned her M.D. from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She did her orthopedic surgical residency with the U.S. Navy. She is a former president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and she frequently speaks out against the perils of government-run health care. She ran for Governor in 2014 as a libertarian. Unfortunately, she lost the election.

Since 2005 (and even before that), there have been no deaths in the U.S. from measles, but there have been 86 deaths from MMR vaccine – 68 of them in children under 3 years old. And there were nearly 2,000 disabled, per the aforementioned VAERS data.

In countries which use BCG vaccinations against tuberculosis, the incidence of Type I diabetes in children under 14 is nearly double.

As reported in Lancet in 1995, inflammatory bowel disease (i.e. Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis) is 13 times more prevalent in persons vaccinated for measles.

…In 1982 William Torch, a prolific researcher and publisher on Neurologic topics, presented a paper (later published) at the American Academy of Neurology reviewing SIDS deaths. He reported that in 100 consecutive cases, 70 percent of SIDS deaths occurred within three weeks of pertussis vaccination.

It is Christmas time

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:11 (NIV)

It started at the post office. Suzie-Q sent me out for stamps so we could mail out our annual bale of Christmas cards. Yes, we still do that. I was standing in line with a number of others attending to their Christmas postal needs. While I was waiting, I looked at the display case filled with samples of available stamps and decided the Magi stamp and the Virgin and Child stamp would be the best choices.

Other stamps displayed right beside them were Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Both dead from drug overdoses yet honored with a U.S. postage stamp and right there beside the stamps honoring the birth of the Christ child. Maybe better in a case with pop music stars that died from drug overdoses. That could be a whole collection by itself. Do not get me wrong, a teenager from the 60’s I have the whole Janis Joplin Pearl collection and would enjoy listening to it right now. Never was very taken with Hendrix though. I mostly remember his ear splitting ode to Purple Haze LSD. Excuse me while I kiss the sky.

By the time I got to a clerk, she told me they were out of Magi stamps. She only had a couple books of the Virgin and Child. I left with those two and Peanuts, Charlie Brown Christmas stamps. If you are on my Christmas list, you may have received a card with Snoopy taking aim at the Red Baron.

When I got back home, it was time to haul out the decorations. This year the granddaughters are coming so decorating required a little more effort. Somehow, I talked myself into buying a lighted reindeer and sleigh to put out into the front yard. In China, some guy is laughing at me. I am certain of that and I probably have some toxic illness from wrestling those things around the garage floor. By the time they were assembled and out into the yard, the garage floor and I were covered with gold glitter. Did you ever try to vacuum sticky glitter from a garage floor? Did your wife ever make you get undressed in the garage? There just seems to be no gratitude for the work I do. With that and other decorations out, I had to bring the tree in. No, I am not going to speak about a box filled with tangled lights. Mine never tangle because I roll them into one gigantic ball. If you try this at home, do not plug the giant ball of lights into the electric outlet otherwise the neighbors may think there has been a nuclear attack.

As I was putting the tree where the Secretary of War directed, I peeked out the window at the reindeer. Something did not look quite right I just could not put my finger on what it was. I continued working. After the tree was up, I noticed Suzie-Q standing in front of the window with her head tilted sideways. I inquired and she responded, I think one of those deer has his antlers on upside down. In defense I declared, well that is what happens when a Chinese guy writes the directions.

Today, after Church I was out on the patio grilling steaks for lunch. Now I have been known to clear the snow from the grill, but today it is 70 degrees. Yes, in the middle of December. The inconvenient truth is that it is the El Nino affect Al, not global warming. Sometimes that means a heavy wet snowstorm at some point and in other years warm and dry with some wind. In either event, now is the time for me to perform maintenance on the generator.

We have secured all the gifts. Some people got those warm heartfelt plastic gift cards. Since people always scratch the prices off of the gifts they give, we decided this year to not put a receipt in with the gift card. We bought the ones that can be set from $25 to $500. Now remember, it is the thought that counts.

From Suzie-Q and I, have a blessed Christmas and may your dreams be realized in the New Year.

Shrinking Middle Class More Worried About Terrorism than Economy

You are more likely to be killed by lightning than a Twitter

You are more likely to be killed by lightning than a Twitter-wielding Daesh terrorist

http://www.infowars.com/shrinking-middle-class-more-worried-about-terrorism-than-economy/

Endless terror propaganda has taken its toll on the American electorate.

The folks who championed war in the Middle East and countless dead and billions squandered—the American Enterprise Institute—cite a Gallup poll that declares “the top issue facing the U.S.” is terrorism.

Gallup reported in October the top concern was the economy—unemployment, lack of money, taxes—but that was overtaken by terrorism, never mind the government keeps telling us “there are no credible threats of a Paris-style attack on U.S. soil, despite rumors that the Islamic State or other extremists could attack the country,” rumors that naturally get top billing in CNN, MSNBC and Fox News.

“Let’s hope CNN dedicates a meaningful amount of time in the Republican debate in Las Vegas tomorrow night to the issue of terrorism. Voters deserve to hear how candidates plan to defeat Daesh and increase America’s national security,” AEI writes.

Vague and often cartoonish terror threats via Twitter are apparently more of an issue than the destruction of the middle class.

An AEI fellow traveler, the National Review, disputes this. The perpetually in the red magazine has shuffled the stats and concludes the middle class has grown.

“A policy agenda designed with a crumbling middle class in mind is not only inappropriate, but it could actually hurt the living standards of the middle class in the process,” it concludes.

This reupholstering of facts is the standard M.O. for neocons. The neocon guru is the late Leo Strauss. He promoted “noble lies” because he thought the unwashed masses are child-like and stupid.

“According to Strauss, ancient philosophers (such as Plato) were wise and wily, but modern philosophers (such as Locke and other liberals) were foolish and vulgar. The wise ancients thought that the unwashed masses were not fit for either truth or liberty,” writes Shadia Drury. “Accordingly, they believed that society needs an elite of philosophers or intellectuals to manufacture ‘noble lies’ for the consumption of the masses.”

George Orwell said all propaganda spreads lies, even if it speaks the truth. The truth in the neocon lie is that there is indeed an entity called the Islamic State.

Omitted is the fact the Islamic State was covertly created by the United States and its partners and its mission is to destroy the Middle East and also inculcate Americans to the grossly exaggerated fear of terrorism. Minus this irrational and artificially created fear–the result of a not so noble lie–the military industrial complex and the national security surveillance state would wither and die.

The Islamic State is at best a minimal threat to America. The Department of Homeland Security, built on a foundation of fear and geopolitical imperatives after September 11, 2001, admits the threat is not “credible” or “imminent.”

Keep in mind you are more likely to be killed by lightning than a terrorist.

This Looks Like A Normal Grocery Store, But When The Lights Go Out?

Awesome.

It took a team of cashiers, 13 different hidden cameras, and a whole lot Christmas spirit to pull off this epic holiday surprise!

Edeka, Germany ’s largest supermarket chain, decided to surprise its shoppers with a seasonal treat. In an attempt to liven up the otherwise boring chore of grocery shopping, these cashiers opted to delight their patient shoppers with a choreographed orchestra that beeped the holiday classic, “Jingle Bells.”

Did you know this?

While “Cleaning of the Stones” at the National Cemetery in Holly, I noticed a quarter placed on one of the stones. Later, I also noticed a nickel placed on another stone, I was so touched with this that I took pictures. (sorry the nickel did not turn out). I googled about the coins and found this out. I am very proud to share this.
A coin left on a headstone lets the deceased soldier’s family know that somebody stopped by to pay their respect.
Leaving a penny means you visited.
A nickel means that you and the deceased soldier trained at boot camp together.
If you served with the soldier, you leave a dime.
A quarter is very significant because it means that you were there when that soldier died.

Hundreds of “Refugees” Caught With Images of ISIS Flags, Severed Heads on Their Phones

Police raise alarm about asylum seekers entering Norway

Authorities have discovered images of ISIS flags and severed heads on the cellphones of hundreds of asylum seekers crossing into Norway, highlighting concerns about terrorists exploiting the migrant crisis to infiltrate jihadists into Europe.

Nettavisen reports that an “explosion” of refugees crossing into the country in recent months meant that the Police Immigration Service (PU) had to register the migrants quickly.

According to the report, after searching luggage and mobile phones belonging to migrants, police have logged “hundreds” of examples of “photos and videos of executions and brutal punishments, such as images of people holding up severed heads or hands.”

Authorities also discovered numerous examples of ISIS flags and symbols belonging to other terrorist organizations.

Erik Haugland, head of Norway’s asylum program, said that the images may be on the phones for innocent reasons, but that some individuals had likely downloaded the photos because they supported or were affiliated with terrorist groups.

Illustrating the concerns of many that some of the refugees arriving in the west have ties to jihadists, a recent poll found that an astounding 21 per cent of Syrians support ISIS.

Earlier this month, a newly uncovered ISIS manifesto bragged about how the terror organization was planning on exploiting the refugee program to infiltrate jihadists into Europe and set up radicalized Muslim ghettos in major cities.

At least three individuals who posed as “refugees” have now been connected to the November 13 Paris attacks, including the mastermind behind the plot, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who brazenly revealed how he exploited the migrant red carpet to plot bloodshed.

Earlier this month, an 18-year-old asylum seeker was also arrested in the Netherlands after he reportedly told other refugees that he fought alongside Al-Qaeda and ISIS in Syria.

Jedi church says new Star Wars film leading to boom in followers

More than a thousand people a day are signing up as members of the Church of Jediism, leading figures in the organisation said

A 33-year-old man was jailed for 45 days on Monday for attacking toy store customers and policemen with light sabers.

The Church of Jediism said that more than a thousand people a day are signing up to follow the religion

The new Star Wars film may have already broken all records for advance ticket sales, but the cinema trade is not the only industry to have benefited from the return of the franchise after a ten-year absence.

Leading figures in the Church of Jediism, the religion inspired by the fictional warriors who battle against the Dark Side, have told The Daily Telegraph that the group is signing up more than a thousand new members a day, as excitement builds ahead of tomorrow’s launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Jediism started as a joke, ahead of the 2001 census, in which respondents were asked to declare their religion for the first time. At the time, 390,000 people declared that they were Jedis, a number that fell by more than half, to 177,000, at the following census, in 2011.

Liam Neeson appeared in Episode I: The Phantom Menace as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Now the organisation, described by its members as “a set of philosophies based on focusing, learning and becoming one with the Force”, claims to have more than 250,000 followers. Patrick Day-Childs, a member of the church’s five-strong UK ruling council, said that more than a thousand people a day are signing up for the religion. He said: “It’s gone up substantially in the past couple of days. The real test will be in a couple of weeks when the film hype has died off. “

Daniel Jones, who founded the religion and who goes by the Jedi name Morda Hehol, said: “We’ve been rushed off our feet. People want to know more about it. It’s great for us.”

Following the church involves learning about the principles of Jediism, which include tenets such as: “There is no emotion; there is peace,” and “There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.” Mr Day-Childs said: “I think people are shying away from traditional religion because it doesn’t reflect their views. We’ve got no problem with homosexuality or anything like that. We are very accepting.”

Members are allowed to wear robes, but Mr Jones was ejected from a Tesco, in Bangor, in 2009, for refusing to pull down his hood. Mr Day-Childs said: “We encourage people to wear them for events, but if I’m brutally honest, they’re not really very practical.”

The Force Awakens will premiere in Los Angeles tonight, across three separate cinemas. The British premiere will take place on Wednesday evening, before many cinemas open their doors to the public at one minute past midnight, on Thursday morning.

Odeon, Britain’s biggest cinema chain, has already sold more than 500,000 advance tickets. Paul Donovan, chief executive of the group, said that the excitement about the release had “gripped the nation”. He said the company hoped to create a carnival atmosphere at its cinemas, with fans welcome to don Star Wars costumes. “It’s not just going to see a film,” he said. “It’s a great night out with friends. We are seeing huge numbers of group bookings.”

In Los Angeles, fans are already camping outside Hollywood Boulevard’s TCL Chinese Theatre, which hosted the premiere for the first Star Wars film, in 1977. Almost half of the seats for the cinema’s first screening have been set aside for fans camped outside, who must spend at least 24 hours in the queue to be eligible to buy a pair.

Nate Chukey, 45, has not left the cinema since he arrived on Saturday, December 5. He said seeing the film is only a small part of the experience, adding: “Waiting for it like this makes me appreciate it even more.”

How to be a Jedi

• Joining the Church of Jediism involves signing up to the group’s online newsletter and completing a ten-part training course

• Jedis believe in the Force, “a unifying energy, which everything exists within, around and always returns to.”

• They do not believe the Star Wars films to be real. The church says: “Although Jediism was inspired by the beliefs of the fictional Jedi, we do not believe the Star Wars films – they are entirely fictional.“

• Meditation is a key tenet of Jediism. The church says: “Our minds are like sponges, which soak up information daily. In order to keep our minds ‘clean’, we must ‘rinse’ them of negative Force.”

• A belief in God is optional. The group says: “There are no strict rules in Jediism, as we believe in freedom and so joining the Church of Jediism would not pose any restrictions on your life. “

‘Star Wars’ nativity scenes? In churches?

REPOSTED FROM WND.COM

WASHINGTON – In Morristown, N.J., at one of the state’s fastest-growing churches, it’s being hailed as the “Cosmic Christmas” services, a three-week series centering around “Star Wars” characters and plots – even a live “nativity scene” featuring Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and R2D2.

In Middletown, Ill., another church is telling the Christmas story through a “Star Wars” pageant.

In Clarendon Hills, Ill., another church is capitalizing on the release of “The Force Awakens” Dec. 18 to help ministers retell the Christmas story because more Americans are familiar with the “Star Wars” saga than they are with the first two chapters of the Book of Luke.

Those are just three of many examples of American churches turning to “The Force” this Christmas season to fill the pews and the offering plates giving Jesus, Mary and Joseph a break.

Is it a trivialization of the gospel? Heresy? Profane? Blasphemy? A sacrilege?

Take it up with the churches.

“We want to draw on the excitement surrounding ‘Star Wars’ in order to reach new people and teach them about Jesus Christ,” explained Tim Lucas, lead pastor and founder of Liquid Church in Morristown. “There are no rules that says church needs to be dry and boring. One of our core values at Liquid is that ‘church is fun.’ It’s OK to laugh and celebrate together while talking about Christmas. If that means having ‘Star wars’ characters in costume and dancing storm troopers, I’m all for it.”

The church promises 14 Christmas services will be “jam-packed with ‘Star Wars’ surprises” and expects 7,000 people to attend.

Watch Pastor Tim Lucas share his excitement for Cosmic Christmas on the WND website. http://www.wnd.com/2015/12/star-wars-nativity-scenes-in-churches/#!

“I already have my tickets for the December 18th premiere of ‘The Force Awakens,'” says Lucas. “I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fan! In fact, as a child, I would take the family nativity and replace the figurines with ‘Star Wars’ action figures – that’s the inspiration for our live ‘Star Wars’ nativity. At its core, ‘Star Wars’ reflects spiritual faith. It’s the battle between good and evil, the light versus the dark, and that’s something we can all rally around.”

In Middletown, at the Community United Church, they say it’s a great way to engage the kids.

“What we are trying to do is kind of take the story of the Magi, and those are the star troopers, those are our Jedi knights, and they’re on their way to discover a new light that has come into the world,” said Laura Crow, the church’s director of faith formation. “God has placed a new star in our world.”

Have your baby’s picture taken with Star Trooper “Magi”

But it seems like the common denominator between many of the churches turning to “Star Wars” themes this Christmas season is the passion the pastors themselves have toward the movies.

The Rev. Matthew Rogers, senior minister at the Christian Church of Clarendon Hills said he was looking for something new in the retelling of the Christmas story in 2015.

“That’s when the ‘Star Wars’ idea came to me,” he said. “I’m a big ‘Star Wars’ fan. I saw the original when I was a kid, and there are parallels with major symbols with the Christmas story. The parallels came together really easily once I started thinking about it.”

He was so excited about the idea, he started his “Star Wars of Christmas” theme Nov. 29 and will take it all the way through Christmas Eve.

But is all this just a big marketing scam?

“Along with the parallels with ‘Star Wars’ and the Christmas story, this also makes an easy invite to the church,” Rogers admits. “We want people who enjoy ‘Star Wars’ and are curious about the parallels with the Christmas story to come to our services and listen to the messages. It’s an easy opportunity to invite the non-believer friend to church.”

The Life Church in Saginaw, Mich., is also enlisting in the “Star Wars” Christmas frenzy.

The Rev. Jonathan Herron, another “Star Wars” fan, started the non-denominational church three years ago, using contemporary music and comedy to attract the under-40 crowd, so he says the latest promotion makes sense. The services will include “create-your-own-lightsaber activity, free photos with a storm trooper and “Star Wars” merchandise giveaways.

While there’s no separation between church and entertainment as far as the church in America goes, it hasn’t worked in the reverse this year in England where British theaters rejected advertisements from the Church of England targeting “Star Wars” fans. The ad featured Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and others reciting phrases from The Lord’s Prayer.

The ban brought criticism on the theater cartel from some unlikely sources. Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous atheist said he strongly objected to suppressing the ads on the grounds that they might offend people. “If anybody is offended by something so trivial as a prayer, they deserve to be offended.”

Actress Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia told the critics of the ad to “get a life.” On Twitter she proclaimed, “I don’t find it offensive … even if I did it shouldn’t be banned. You can’t ban everything that may offend someone.”

Movie critic Stephen Greydanus of DecentFilms.com and the National Catholic Register suggested “The Force” is exactly the kind of “spiritual but not religious” symbolism that has been widely embraced in England.

“Which is bigger in England – ‘Star Wars’ of the Church of England” he asked. “There may be more practicing Anglicans these days than there are members of the Jedi faith, but it says a lot that we can even ask the question with a straight face. It’s safe to say that more young people in England are familiar with the details of the ‘Star Wars’ mythology than with the contents of the Book of Common Prayer.”

In the 2001 Census, 390,000 people in England and Wales stated that their religion was Jedi, according to David Robertson, the director of Solas Centre for Public Christianity.

“The Scots, always the more sensible and level-headed part of the U.K., had proportionately less at 14,000,” noted Robertson. “The decline of the Jedi is spectacular – down to 175,000 in 2011. It seems the joke is wearing thin. But the increasing diversity of religious belief in Britian is no joke. … The removal of Christianity as the primary philosophical, ethical and guiding force in our land will have profound consequences, not the least because it may result in the removal of the very values – equality, justice and freedom – which some people seem to think mean that Christianity should not be given a special status.”

Mega-church pastor Rick Warren in California recently dissed the comparisons between the God of the Bible and “The Force.”

He said some people believe He’s like “The Force” – “an impersonal force that we can bend to our own will. If I thought God was like [that], I wouldn’t trust him either. But he’s not. The Bible paints an entirely different picture of the character of God. The truth is, God is infinitely worthy of your trust because no being in the universe is as capable to influence the world around you as He is. … God has the power (and the desire) to sustains and helps you through whatever you’re going through. He wants to give you his best for your life — and he is uniquely able to help you get there. He is the creator of the universe. He literally has all the resources in the universe that he can mobilize on your behalf as you seek to follow him. But the key is, you must trust him.”

Christian female fighters take on IS in Syria

By Delil Souleiman FOR YAHOONEWS.COM

Hasakeh (Syria) (AFP) - Babylonia has no regrets about leaving behind her two children and her job as a hairdresser to join a Christian female militia battling against the Islamic State group in Syria.

The fierce-looking 36-year-old in fatigues from the Syriac Christian minority in the northeast believes she is making the future safe for her children.

“I miss Limar and Gabriella and worry that they must be hungry, thirsty and cold. But I try to tell them I’m fighting to protect their future,” she told AFP.

Babylonia belongs to a small, recently created battalion of Syriac Christian women in Hasakeh province who are fighting IS.

They are following in the footsteps of Syria’s other main female force battling the jihadists — the women of the YPJ, the female counterpart to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units or YPG.

So far the new force is small, with around 50 graduates so far from its training camp in the town of Al-Qahtaniyeh, also known as Kabre Hyore in Syriac, and Tirbespi in Kurdish.

But the “Female Protection Forces of the Land Between the Two Rivers” — the area between the Tigris and Euphrates waterways historically inhabited by Syriacs — is teeming with women eager to prove their worth against IS.

It was actually Babylonia’s husband who encouraged her to leave Limar, nine, and six-year-old Gabriella and join the unit whose first recruits graduated in August.

Himself a fighter, he urged her to take up arms to “fight against the idea that the Syriac woman is good for nothing except housekeeping and make-up”, she said.

- ‘Fear quickly went away’ -

“I’m a practising Christian and thinking about my children makes me stronger and more determined in my fight against Daesh,” added Babylonia, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

Syriac Christians belong to the eastern Christian tradition and pray in Aramaic. They include both Orthodox and Catholic branches, and constitute around 15 percent of Syria’s 1.2 million Christians.

Before the conflict began in March 2011, Christians from some 11 different sects made up around five percent of the population.

The unit’s first major action was alongside the newly created Syrian Democratic Forces, a coalition of Kurdish, Arab and Christian fighters, which recently recaptured the strategic town of Al-Hol.

“I took part in a battle for the first time in the Al-Hol area, but my team wasn’t attacked by IS,” said 18-year-old Lucia, who gave up her studies to join the militia.

Her sister also joined up, against the wishes of their reluctant mother.

“I fight with a Kalashnikov, but I’m not ready to become an elite sniper yet,” the shy teenager said, a wooden crucifix around her neck and a camouflage bandana tied round her head.

Al-Hol, on a key route between territory IS controls in Syria and Iraq, was the first major victory for the SDF, which has captured around 200 villages in the region in recent weeks.

It has received air support from the US-led coalition fighting IS, as well as drops of American weapons.
