Donald Trump, Raphael “Ted” Cruz, Hillary Clinton and John Kasich will all appear on a live CNN presidential forum next Monday evening. Bernie Sanders will also appear via a remote feed from the campaign trail.
CNN is hosting a three-hour candidate forum with Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer in Washington DC. Each candidate interview will be conducted separately, so they will not be debating each other. All of them, sans Sanders, are in town for the pro-Israel AIPAC conference.
The event appears to be a rather significant ratings victory for CNN because Fox News tried to host a GOP presidential debate but failed miserably due to poor timing overlap with the AIPAC conference and planned speeches. Donald Trump declined the Fox debate due to scheduling conflict with AIPAC and in turn Kasich backed away in response to Trump’s decision.
This forum event by CNN is a rather large poke in the eye to their competitor Fox News.

As a future former president, Obama will benefit from his proposed hikes in the pensions and other lifetime benefits given to living ex-presidents in his budget requests for fiscal years 2016 and 2017.
“The President’s FY2017 budget request seeks $3,865,000 in appropriations for expenditures for former Presidents, an increase of $588,000 (17.9%) from the FY2016 appropriation level,” according to a report from the Congressional Research Service published Wednesday. “The increase in requested appropriations for FY2017 anticipates President Barack Obama’s transition from incumbent to former President.”
“For FY2016, President Obama requested and received appropriations of $3,277,000 for expenditures for former Presidents – an increase of $25,000 from FY2015 appropriated levels.”
It doesn’t appear he needs the money, however; former President Bill Clinton earned $132 million from speeches given between Feb. 2001 and March 2015.
“Clinton received $924,000 in taxpayer dollars last year by way of the Former Presidents Act,” the Washington Free Beacon reported. “…Critics of the act argue that it financially supports former presidents who are not struggling.”
“Many of them, alternatively, have gone on to profit from writing books about their time in the White House or delivering paid speaking engagements.”
Enacted in 1958, the Former Presidents Act provides living ex-presidents with a $200,000+ annual pension, staff salaries, travel expenses, Secret Service protection and other benefits.
However, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) has recently proposed legislation that would cut down a former president’s pension by a dollar for every dollar the former president earns over $400,000 in the private sector in a given year.
“You want a retirement and pension, it’s there, but if you’re going to go out and make enormous sums of money, then you don’t need taxpayer subsidies,” Chaffetz said. “The former presidents are making gobs of money speaking and writing books, more power to them, but that doesn’t mean they need more taxpayer dollars on top of that.”
“It’s embarrassing that they take that money.”

JUST IN: Threatening letter with white powder sent to Trump’s son demands his dad drop out http://hill.cm/SJVDH6f
The letter delivered to 100 Central Park South on Manhattan was opened by his wife, Lara, and a white powder fell on her.
Lara Yunaska is a CBS News producer.
A preliminary field test indicated the white powder is not dangerous.
The letter reportedly also contained a note threatening Trump’s other children if he does not pull out of the presidential race.
The Secret Service, FBI and New York Police Department are investigating the Massachusetts postmarked letter.
Since announcing his campaign and sweeping primary races, Trump has been the target of numerous attacks, including a violent demonstration that shut down a campaign rally in Chicago and an attempt by a man to rush the stage during a speech in Vandalia, Ohio.
On Tuesday the D.C. campaign office of trailing candidate Marco Rubio was evacuated after a similar letter was sent.
The Fire Department, FBI and a hazmat crewed responded and it was determined the letter was not dangerous.

But Clinton’s claim that she did not use such devices is questionable given that her emails, which have been released by the State Department, show that she sent dozens of messages while visiting China and Russia.
“Every time I went to countries like China or Russia we couldn’t take our computers, we couldn’t take our personal devices, we couldn’t take anything off the plane because they’re so good,” Clinton said at an event held on Nov. 9, 2014, several months before news of her personal email use broke.
Clinton used a personal BlackBerry hooked up to her personal email account to conduct government business while in office. The emails were maintained on a private email server managed by State Department IT specialist Bryan Pagliano.
So Megyn is now pushing the myth that Trump supporters are violent rioters.

“If the government tries to compel testimony or action from these engineers, good luck with that,” a former Apple engineering manager told the newspaper.
Window Snyder, a former Apple senior product manager, said if the government “attempts to force them to work on something that’s outside their personal values, they can expect to find a position that’s a better fit somewhere else.”
Simply refusing to code the new operation system while employed at Apple would not be an option. If engineers did this, according to Joseph DeMarco, a former federal prosecutor, the government “would be much more likely to find Apple in contempt” and impose heavy fines.
The Times cites the case of Lavabit, an encrypted email service used by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. In 2013, the government issued a warrant demanding the company surrender private encryption keys allowing it to read Snowden’s email. After the company refused, a judge imposed a $10,000-a-day penalty. Instead of paying the penalty the company ceased operations.
FBI Does Not Need Keys to Read iPhones
The federal government has cited the All Writs Act from the 18th century to force Apple to unlock two phones linked to the alleged San Bernardino killers.
Following the attack Verizon provided the FBI with data from the phones allegedly used by Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, including calls, locations, SMS messages and internet data.
“The FBI probably knows everyone that Farook and Malik were in contact with. The FBI probably know everything of interest already. If there was a hint of any connection with a terrorist organisation they would have announced it already. They have, instead, been clear that there was nothing suggesting any such contact took place,” an information security researcher wrote in February.
According to former White House cybersecurity czar Richard Clarke the government has the ability to crack the passcode on Farook’s iPhone 5c.
Clarke said on March 14 he would have told FBI Director James Comey to “call Ft. Meade, and the NSA would have solved this problem… Every expert I know believes that NSA can crack this phone.” He said the government is not serious about gaining access to the phones, but “they just want the precedent.”
Encryption: the Frontline Against the Surveillance State
“The government is mostly concerned that someday down the line ubiquitous encryption will take hold—that is, strong encryption by default—that would be time consuming for the spooks to crack on an independent basis,” writes Lauren Weinstein. “The rise of ubiquitous encryption will over time likely be unstoppable.”
Following Obama’s call for government access to all devices during the South by Southwest festival in Austin last week, Infowars reported on the rise of encrypted apps.
A number of apps—Wire, Telegram, WhatsApp, TextSecure and others—provide end-to-end-encryption. The system allows only those engaged in communication to read messages and prevents others from gaining access to the cryptographic keys needed to decrypt conversations, including telecom providers, ISPs, the company operating the messaging service and the government.

Film makers Andrew Marcus and Jeremy Segal, who bravely ventured into the left-wing “anti-hate” mobs who staged violence at a cancelled Donald Trump rally in Chicago last week, told Sean Hannity that the protesters themselves were engaging in hate and intimidation.
Video shot by the film makers shows Bernie and Hillary supporters arguing that Trump is the reincarnation of Adolf Hitler while repeatedly cussing, “fuck Trump”.
When challenged on whether such behavior was “hateful,” one of the “anti-hate” protesters shot back, “no, we don’t hate”.
Another woman suggests that the film makers, because they are white, shouldn’t be allowed to “walk around videotaping women of color,” despite the fact that the entire area is public.
“He’s in there organizing a fascist mob that’s ready to fight,” asserts another individual who is with the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA (Revcom).
“I think the premier message is one of hate and intimidation, this was a pre-meditated act of harassment and intimidation to shut down the Trump event but wrapped in the message of stopping the hate,” said Marcus.
Segal made the point that the event was not “some spontaneous uprising against Donald Trump” and that it represented “the institutional left and what this country is up against right now”.
“They’re exercising a veto power over people’s right to freedom to assemble and freedom of speech and that’s a very dangerous place for us to arrive in this country,” added Marcus.
The film makers also interviewed domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, former leader of the Weather Underground, whom they argued was “every bit as radical and unrepentant as he’s ever been”.
Earlier this week it was revealed that some of the radical groups involved in shutting down Donald Trump’s rally in Chicago last week are planning a “mass civil disobedience movement” beginning next month.
Prominent ‘Black Lives Matter’ activist and rapper Tef Poe also warned that black people would incite riots “everywhere we go” if Trump wins the presidency.
Leftist demonstrators are also set to march on the Trump Tower in New York City tomorrow afternoon.

DAYTONA 3/17/16—Frank Sinatra Jr. died yesterday of a heart attack at the age of 72 in Daytona, Florida. He had been touring the U.S. He never tried to live his life or his career in the shadow of his father. Frank Jr. was a good performer on his own and depended only upon his own abilities.
When I first met his father, during the opening day of Disneyland in the magic shop located in the Castle, Frank Jr, and Nancy were with him. They were both adorable little kids. Nancy watched a trick being demonstrated and while giggling said to her father; “We should get that and show Mommy.”
In 1963, when he was 19, Frank Jr. was kidnapped from a motel in Lake Tahoe by three men for ransom.. He was taken and held in a Los Angeles hideout for 4 days, while the kidnappers tried to contact his father. They wanted to extort $240,000. They demanded that Jr. give them his telephone number, but he refused. When they insisted, he said, “You’ll have to shoot me first..” He was protective of his father.
Strangely, one of the kidnappers, 23 year old Barry Keenan was a friend of Jr.’s sister, Nancy. He was strung out on drugs and alcohol. Frank Jr. was rescued and Keenan, along with the other two, were captured and arrested .Strangely again, Keenan was given only 4 1/2/years in prison. We are not sure what the other two got. Following his prison sentence Kennan became a successful real estate developer.
The blaring headlined media coverage was such that the public and press accused Frank Jr. of staging this kidnapping as a publicity stunt. It definitely was not. He would not falsely do anything to advance his career, including mentions of his father, which was minimized.
Years later our paths would cross again when we both took part in a benefit in the Bronx to aid singer Mario Lanza, whose mother and son were killed in a fire bomb attack. Recently I had tried to contact him hoping he had information on Ms. Lanza who had moved. I planned to make a trip to Cache Creek Casino to visit him. That was a month ago.
His death was not expected. How I regret that health issues prevented me from going to Cache Creek to visit him. Wish I had pushed through to make that trip. That opportunity will not come again. He was a good guy.
