Oath Keepers guard Upstate military recruitment centers

Mission Protect the Protectors created in response to Chattanooga shootings.
REPOSTED FROM WYFF4.COM
GREENVILLE, S.C. —In the wake of the shootings in Chattanooga that took the lives of four Marines and a sailor last week, a Greenville-area group has joined a national effort to protect military personnel at some Upstate recruitment centers.

“They can go overseas, and they can fight for us, and they can say that they’re fighting to protect America, but they can’t protect themselves at home?” Mouse Prosen told WYFF News 4’s Ashley Swann. “I don’t understand that.”

Prosen, a former Marine, is a member of the South Carolina chapter of Oath Keepers, a national nonprofit dedicated to defending the Constitution. Across the nation, members are standing watch at recruitment centers to guard the servicemen and service women they say are not allowed to protect themselves by carrying firearms.

They call it the Protect the Protectors mission.

“We took an oath,” said Prosen. “An oath that never goes void. When we took the oath to begin with, it lasts our whole lifetime. And we’re going to stand here and we’re going to protect these people, because this is the right thing to do.”

On Wednesday, we found two local members on patrol outside an Upstate armed forces career center. Simpsonville Police Chief Keith Grounsell has met with the group and says he respects their efforts.

“That’s the most important thing to me,” said Grounsell. “That they’re doing it as law-abiding citizens, taking the proper approach, communicating with the local police departments to assure that they don’t overstep their boundaries.”

Grounsell says he and his department appreciate the support.

“If you have two to four individuals that are willing to donate their time and have that extra set of eyes and ears out there, actually looking for specific things that might occur around these recruiting stations, that’s wonderful for us,” he said.

Prosen says he hopes U.S. lawmakers will change their policy. Until then, members of Oath Keepers will not stray from their mission.

“Until they’re protected, until they kick us out and say they don’t want us anymore. That’s how long we’re going be here,” said Prosen.

Members of Oath Keepers are not paid. They say they’ve been blown away by the positive community response. Visit http://oathkeepers.org/ to learn more about their mission.

Armed Chattanooga Marine First Raised on Vanderboegh Blog

MY COMMENTS: WHY IN HEAVEN’S NAME ARE WE NOT ARMING EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER AND SERVICE PERSONAL ON AMERICAN SOIL? What the hell is wrong with this government to pass such stupid idiotic laws…don’t answer that…we all know…communists are in charge. Thanks Clinton for passing this unconscionable and totally stupid law. Also, who killed the shooter?

Stewart Rhodes introduces Mike Vanderboegh at the Liberty Oath Keeper’s meeting in Monticello NY, April 21, 2013.

“The FBI has recovered a pistol that may have been privately owned and used by one of the Marines killed here Thursday during the shooting at the Navy Operational Support Center, according to law enforcement officials,” The Washington Post reported Monday. ‘Investigators are trying to determine, based on forensics, whether the pistol, a 9mm Glock, was used in an exchange with the shooter, Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez, and possibly wounded him, officials said.”

That’s been corroborated and elaborated on by a Tuesday Navy Times report claiming “Sources: Navy officer, Marine fought to take out Chattanooga gunman.

“It’s also unclear why they were armed, as it is against Defense Department policy for anyone other than military police or law enforcement to carry weapons on federal property,” that report points out.

These revelations bolster a claim made by an anonymous poster on the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog last Friday. That site is run by Mike Vanderboegh, widely recognized as the founder of the Three Percent movement and the blogger who first reported evidence of Operation Fast and Furious “gunwalking” in the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

“One Marine was armed, in violation of policy, and fired at the cowardly bastard who then retreated behind the facility,” an individual identifying himself only as “anon for obvious reasons” wrote. “There he began firing on the others.

“Get the facts,” the comment poster advised. “I spoke w/ a friend who was guarding the suspect’s home this morning. (Sgt w/ Chat. City PD).”

“I would like to investigate your claim and see if it can be verified,” I responded in comments, not having any other way to investigate. “Mike and I will guarantee your anonymity and go to jail before revealing you as our source, just, as we proved faithful to the Fast and Furious whistleblowers. If you could contact him or me, I’d appreciate the opportunity to find out more.”

No reply has been forthcoming at this writing, but the WaPo and Navy Times stories offer substantial corroboration.

This is yet another example of the potential for alternative media to beat the big boys to the punch despite a vast disparity in connections and resources. That in turn reflects on the quality of readership truly informative blogs attract, particularly ones with a track record of breaking important news ahead of the corporate outlets. True, that didn’t happen this time, but things might have played out differently had the anonymous poster responded.

These revelations will probably result in no shortage of antis reveling in ghoulish triumph over a defensive gun failure, and using that to further attack the right to keep and bear arms. Just keep in mind that no one has ever claimed the presence of a gun will allow the victims to prevail in all situations, and anyone using this to defend “gun free zones” is simply being an opportunistic, agenda über alles liar.

Why the Article V Convention Must Be Opposed from Oath Keepers

Editor’s Note: The following article is in reference to an article at The New American, here:

http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/constitution/item/20484-battle-over-constitutional-convention-rages-in-texas

by Jay Stang, Texas Oath Keepers President and member of our Board of Directors

Fellow Oath Keepers,

The Constitution provides us several avenues to amend, or change it. The avenue most Americans are familiar with is the amendment. The least known, until now, is the convention, also identified in Article V. The convention, known in this day as the Convention of the States (CoS), would be convened for the purpose of proposing amendments. Is there anything else that could happen? I can’t say for sure, but consider this: if the US Government had any chance of ridding itself of the chains that Jefferson prescribed, do you think it would take the chance? Any way to rid itself formally of the Bill of Rights?

Who would be sent to this Convention? Remember, if the Article V machinery is sent into motion, think about who will control it? Our current federal government? How many times have you been frustrated with the failure of congressional leadership in both houses to uphold their oaths, or to put our interests first? Guess what? They’ll be forming and planning the convention. Uh oh. There are several pieces of state legislation in the Texas Legislature right now to specify delegates, how they are selected, their qualifications, etc. That sounds great on paper, doesn’t it? Will the delegates faithfully execute the charter given them by the various state legislatures around the country? What did the delegates to the last convention do? Here is the exhausting detail in which the convention is described.

Article V:

“The Congress…shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress;…”

That’s it. That’s all the Constitution says regarding the convention. It doesn’t say what they are allowed to talk about, or not allowed to talk about. Congress doesn’t get any guidance on how to run it. What if they throw out the whole Constitution? Is it possible? Do you trust John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and President Obama?

Why do we need a CoS? To pass a balanced budget amendment? Would that solve our problems? One more law, one more amendment? Does the federal government follow the Constitution now? If not, why not?

Friends, the Constitution was created for a moral and religious people. It is unsuited for the governing of any other. Why? Moral and religious people govern themselves. They don’t need an all powerful government to do it for them. With no integrity or ethics, the Constitution is merely an eloquent collection of words on paper. It has no magic power. No soul. The Constitution is only as good as the people who follow it. It is not the laws on the books that matter; it is the law in our hearts that matters. If we can not govern ourselves, someone else will. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Please ponder these questions as you decide whether to support or oppose the Convention of the States. Just remember this: when people tell you not to worry, that’s when you should start.
