Where are the best places in the US for our new Syrian refugee friends?

BY ED STRAKER FOR AMERICANTHINKER.COM

Will Rogers once said, “A stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet.” That’s how I feel about the 10,000 or more refugees Obama has promised to bring to America. I want them to move to my little town. I want my hometown to have the very best modern traditions from Damascus, Aleppo, and Raqqah brought to my doorstep. If I can’t move to the Middle East, the next best thing is to bring the Middle East here and have it all around me.

But unfortunately, my hometown doesn’t have space for our Sunni and Shia future friends. Most of our multi-family homes and apartments are filled with other visitors who are as high on virtue as they are low on documentation. So I started wondering: what is the best place for all our soon to be great Syrian friends? Here’s what I came up with:

1) Santa Monica, California. Santa Monica would be perfect for many Middle Eastern refugees. There is a wonderful pier and walkway along the beach filled with tons of bikini-clad women who love diversity and would surely welcome more of it. Santa Monica also has the advantage of being near Hollywood. Hollywood always has need of Arab actors to play heroes or helpless victims in movies about the CIA and American businesses manipulating the Middle East to their own end.

2) Greenwich Village, New York City. Sunni and Shia refugees with ultra-religious attitudes would be perfect for Greenwich Village. It’s so culturally rich – with restaurants and gay bars with transvestites, not to mention the annual gay nude Halloween Parade. It’s also probably one of the few places where transgendered Muslim men can find burkas made especially for men. Putting fundamentalist Muslim sympathizers together with gays has an additional benefit – each can help the other out with their prejudices. Gays can help fundamentalist Muslims with their homophobia, and fundamentalist Muslims can help gays with their Islamophobia. Before you know it, they will all be holding hands.

3) Washington, D.C. It would be great for these Middle Eastern Muslims of unknown background to settle in the Capitol Hill area of Washington, D.C. They would be fascinated to go onto Capitol Hill itself and visit with the House of Representatives, as well as the Senate. They would also have easy access to the offices of members of Congress, and they could generate goodwill by dropping by and saying hello. Members of Congress are so numerous that oftentimes you don’t even need to go into the Capitol to see them; they can be encountered walking on the street. I think our new unvetted guests would enjoy the opportunity to strike up impromptu encounters with congressmen, and we all would benefit from the resulting exchanges, don’t you think?

4) Minneapolis, Minnesota. Minneapolis has a small problem with radicalized Somali Muslims. The Syrian Muslims can help by moving in and keeping an eye out for their radicalized brethren.

5) The Aleutian Islands. After spending all their lives in the hot desert, the Syrians might enjoy a cooler island climate. It’s just like Hawaii, only without Hawaiians, and 70 degrees cooler.

6) Alcatraz. If providing housing for all these refugees is a problem, why not go to ready-made housing? Alcatraz has rows and rows of single-family rooms already built. All they require is a lick of paint and some landscaping, and it will look like a top apartment building in Beirut.

What do you think? Where would you like our new unvetted Middle Eastern Muslim friends to settle? Do you have any room in your basement?

Third World countries want more than $100B a year in “climate change” reparations

Originally posted on Fellowship of the Minds:

This is insanity.

USA Today reports, Sept. 12, 2015, that preparatory talks ahead of the UN Conference on Climate Change to be held in Paris in December has representatives from developing nations asking for more than an already agreed upon $100 billion per year for climate change mitigation measures.

Third World countries claim that they’re suffering from extreme weather disasters caused by “climate change” — what the greens used to call “global warming” — and they want rich countries like the United States to pay to relocate their populations to safer terrains (climate change refugees) and as reparations for their failure to follow through on aid pledges after weather disasters.

An example of the latter was Cyclone Pam’s devastation of islands in the South Pacific last March. But attention quickly turned to the massive earthquake in Nepal soon thereafter, which left small countries such as the island nation of Vanuatu…

Calais: Illegals complain and throw away food given by French leftists

Some French leftists decided to hand out food to illegal immigrants in Calais. Illegals quickly took over the distribution of the food and stormed the van, trying to get in and grab all they could. Afterwards the woman visited a camp and the illegal immigrants were complaining to her that ”the food is not good”. The ungrateful illegals then took the food and threw it on the ground. Illegal immigrants in Europe expect to be placed in 5 star hotels when they arrive, when their expectations aren’t met they get aggressive. How long will we tolerate these demanders?

Report: America attracting poor, uneducated immigrants

POOR

BY PAUL BEDARD FOR WASHINGTONEXAMINER.COM

The helping hand offered by social welfare programs is being utilized by most legal and illegal immigrant families, the latest sign that many immigrants come to America for the taxpayer-funded benefits like Medicaid, subsidized food and cash, according to a new report based on Census data.

In analyzing new Census reports, the Center for Immigration Studies found that immigrant families with one or more children use welfare far more than “native” American families.

“Welfare use by illegal immigrant households is certainly a concern, but the bigger issue is welfare use by legal immigrants,” said Steven Camarota, the Center’s director of research and author of the report.

“Three-fourths of immigrant households using welfare are headed by legal immigrants. Legal immigration is supposed to benefit the country, yet so many legal immigrants are not able to support themselves or their children. This raises important questions about the selection criteria used for legal immigration,” said Camarota.

The report highlights the economics of immigration, especially illegal immigration, and comes as Syrian refugees are seeking to settle in European nations that provide rich welfare benefits.

The report also suggests that America is attracting poor and uneducated immigrants.

“Low levels of education — not legal status — are the main reason immigrant welfare use is high,” said the Center’s preview of their report, released Thursday.

It shows that legal immigrant households make extensive use of welfare, while illegal immigrant households primarily benefit from food programs and Medicaid through U.S.-born children.

According to the report, provided in advance to Secrets, “Households headed by legal immigrants have statistically significant higher use of welfare than native households overall, and for cash and food programs as well as Medicaid. This is the case a decade and a half after the 1996 welfare reform law, which was supposed to greatly limit immigrant access to the welfare system.”

Foreign-born women gain 141,000 jobs, U.S.-born women lose 90,000

WORKING WOMEN

By Paul Bedard FOR THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

The surge in the numbers of foreign-born women getting U.S. jobs at the expense of American-born women expanded in August, continuing an eight-year trend.

New Bureau of Labor Statistics info detailing August jobs shows that the number of U.S.-born women 16 and older with jobs declined by 90,000 and rose for foreign-born women by 141,000.

There are currently 59.258 million American-born working women compared to 10.028 foreign-born working women.

Secrets last month reported that all job gains among women since the 2007 recession hit went to foreign-born women workers.

In December of 2007, 9.041 million foreign-born women workers were employed, for an increase of 1.128 million. In December of 2007, 59.322 million American-born women workers were employed, for a decrease of 161,000.

The total number of foreign workers employed in the U.S. stands at 24.914 million.

* Note: Taken from Health Sciences Institute e-Alert - Jenny Thompson - 9/8/15

Dear Reader,

What do you do when you’re caught in an ugly lie? Well, if you’re a drug company, you try to cover it up with another one.

We’ve been told for years that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin and ibuprofen are safe for everything from headaches to arthritis. Even after people started dropping dead from stomach bleeding and heart attacks.

And now one of the largest NSAID makers on the planet is rolling out a new lie — and it may be the greatest whopper yet.

They’re claiming that a new study proves that over-the-counter NSAIDs are safe for your heart after all — and that everything you’ve read before was just a bad dream.

But this research may be the worst case of media manipulation in Big Pharma’s entire disgusting history. It’s a Grade A scam meant to keep you popping that daily Motrin — even if it kills you.

Rigging the results

You’ve listened to me sound the alarm over and over on the risks of NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen. And it looks like some folks at the FDA must be subscribing to my eAlert, too.

Because just this summer they announced that NSAIDs would carry a warning label admitting they increase your risk of heart attacks, heart failure or strokes.

Even if you have no history of heart disease and have only been taking the meds for a short time.

And what a coincidence! Just weeks later we have a new study telling us to hold the phone — that NSAIDs are practically as safe for your heart as exercise or a garden salad.

The European Society of Cardiology Congress recently issued a press release — which got picked up by lots of media outlets — saying a study presented at one of its recent events “Quells concerns about NSAID safety!”

And it’s clear that they either didn’t read what the study really said — or they just didn’t want you to know.

You see, the research was actually sponsored by Pfizer, the maker of pain meds Advil and Celebrex, which should make you suspicious right off the bat. It was never peer reviewed or published, probably because most self-respecting journals would have rejected this garbage outright.

All the study did was compare OTC NSAIDs like ibuprofen (Motrin) and diclofenac (Aleve) to Celebrex — a COX-2 inhibitor drug, which is basically a super-NSAID. They looked at two dangerous drugs side by side and decided that — since the NSAIDs weren’t any deadlier than Celebrex — they must be safe.

It’s like comparing nitroglycerin to gasoline, then saying the gasoline is nothing to worry about.

It sounds crazy, but I’m serious. There wasn’t even a placebo group, so we couldn’t see how much better people fared when they didn’t take these meds.

That’s Science:101 — and researchers never leave out a placebo group unless they’re trying to pull a fast one.

Well, unlike the Big Pharma shills who put out this press release — or the reporters who ran with it — I actually read the study. And here’s what Pfizer and its hand-picked research team hoped you wouldn’t learn:

  • Both groups reported heart problems — and there were actually more cases among the folks taking OTC meds.
  • Half the folks taking Celebrex and one-third of the OTC patients dropped out of the study because of adverse events and other issues.
  • A whopping 5.2 percent of the Celebrex group and nearly 6 percent of the OTC patients reported gastrointestinal issues. And I’m betting that those patients who were writhing in stomach pain would not suggest you quit worrying about NSAIDs.

You’ll probably never see a more obvious case of Press Release Medicine than this turkey. That’s the sneaky way that companies like Pfizer pull off stealth marketing in this era of the 24/7 news cycle.

They toss out a press release with a catchy headline and hope that lazy TV talking heads will just read what they’re handed without ever stopping to wonder, “Wait a minute. That doesn’t make sense.”

And it makes even less sense to believe that this Pharma-sponsored research has told us anything new or reassuring about the safety of NSAIDs.

To Your Good Health,

Jenny Thompson

Tripwire Crossed – Rick Perry Exits Race, Who’s Next? – Media Continues Baiting Candidates…

I step aside knowing our party is in good hands,’ the former Texas governor says.

By KATIE GLUECK for POLITICO.COM

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Friday announced that he was suspending his presidential campaign, becoming the first Republican to drop out of the race and kicking off the winnowing stage of the crowded GOP contest.

“We have a tremendous field—the best in a generation—so I step aside knowing our party is in good hands,” Perry said at a conservative conference in St. Louis.

The longest-serving governor in Texas history, Perry had never lost a race in his home state in his three-decades-long career, making his stumbles in the national spotlight this year, and during his ill-fated 2012 bid, all the more humbling.

As a titan in the Texas political arena, Perry entered the 2012 GOP primary as the frontrunner, only to watch his campaign implode amid a series of high-profile missteps. In an attempt at political redemption, the former governor spent close to two years traveling and studying up on policy issues in the run-up to 2016, seeking to rehabilitate his tarnished image. But the spectacular nature of his 2012 collapse proved difficult to overcome and he struggled to remain relevant. Fundraising was a challenge, and he failed to gain traction in the polls despite spending significant time in the early states, especially Iowa, and despite the assistance of a well-funded super PAC.

“I share this news with no regrets,” Perry said Friday. “It has been a privilege and an honor to travel this country, to speak with the American people about their hopes and dreams, to see a sense of optimism prevalent despite a season of cynical politics. And as I approach the next chapter in life, I do so with the love of my life by my side, Anita Perry. We have our house in the country, we have two beautiful children and two adorable grandchildren, four dogs, and the best sunset from our front porch that you could ever imagine. Life is good. And I am a blessed man.”

Perry began alerting donors and supporters as early as Thursday that he was planning to drop out, said Doug Deason, son of Texas billionaire Darwin Deason, who gave $5 million to Perry’s super PAC. The Deasons received a call from Perry on Thursday alerting them to his move, and they plan to watch the field play out further before committing.

When Perry announced his candidacy for a second time on June 4, his aides and allies said America would meet the man Texas already knew — a powerful, strategic-minded, winning politician who would be unimpeded by the post-surgery back pain that Perry has said deeply hindered him the first time around. On his second try, Perry came across as more thoughtful and serious, sometimes displaying a near-wonkish understanding of policy issues — particularly foreign policy.

But despite adding more depth to his already strong retail politicking skills and ability to deliver a fiery speech, he was never able to overcome the memories of 2012.

His near-broke campaign had been in free fall since he stopped paying his staff earlier this summer.

One particularly painful moment came last month when Perry returned to the Iowa State Fair, where four years earlier he was mobbed by cameras and fairgoers. But in 2015, cameras were few and far between, and he flipped pork chops, played ring toss and traversed the fairgrounds mostly unrecognized.

“There are people who can keep a pretty small footprint,” he said at the time, denying rumors that he would drop out of the race for lack of money. “I’m one of them.”

By this week, he was down to one paid staffer in Iowa, one in South Carolina and none in New Hampshire. He was foundering in the polls after failing to qualify for the main stage debate in the first GOP primary contest and his weak polling support had once again relegated him to the second-tier debate next week.

Even so, his super PAC effort, run by influential Mississippi Republican operative Austin Barbour, remained well-funded and was running an independent ground game on behalf of Perry in Iowa, putting him in a better organizational position than many of the other candidates who remain in the field — including Jim Gilmore and George Pataki, two former governors who have also struggled to gain attention. The relative health of his super PAC, in contrast to the gasping Perry campaign, had raised the prospect of a new presidential campaign phenomenon — a barely breathing campaign enabled by a well-stocked super PAC.

“We are obviously disappointed that Governor Perry decided to suspend his campaign because we believe strongly in his ability to lead America out of the Obama era, but support his decision,” Barbour said in a statement. “We were proud to stand with him in this campaign. We wish Gov. Perry and Anita the best.”

In a subsequent interview, Barbour said the news came as a shock — he didn’t find out until late Friday afternoon, after he finished coaching his son’s football practice.

“There were so many rumors, all of these rumors, but we were very surprised, and obviously sad, but we totally understand and respect his decision,” Barbour said Friday night. “We felt like we’d really turned the corner in Iowa, but it’s a personal decision and we totally respect it.”

After Perry’s announcement Friday, praise for his legacy quickly poured in from several other candidates, including Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham, Jeb Bush and Rick Santorum.

“Governor Perry has dedicated his entire life to his family, friends, and Jesus Christ,” read Rubio’s statement. “He served in the United States Air Force and as governor of Texas with distinction, and I have no doubt that his service to our nation is not over. I commend him for running an honorable, positive campaign, and wish the best to him and his family.”

Added Graham, who was often publicly chummy with Perry, “.@GovernorPerry, I’m proud to call you my friend and I wish you the best in the future.”

Perry also earned plaudits from Donald Trump, who called Perry a “terrific guy” and said he wished him well — despite Perry’s harsh prior criticism of the real estate mogul.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who served as solicitor general when Perry was in the governor’s mansion, released a lengthy statement praising Perry as a “friend,” “remarkable public servant” and “proud veteran who bravely served our nation,” and urged that others donate to two veterans’-related foundations as Cruz and his wife did on Friday.

“The entire Republican field was unquestionably made stronger by the experience and wisdom he brought to the race,” Cruz said.

With Perry — once a champion fundraiser — out of the race, the Texas senator could be the immediate beneficiary: the two will no longer be rivals for home state dollars. People close to the Cruz campaign say that a number of donors who were sitting on the sidelines out of respect for Perry would now feel comfortable throwing their support to the other Texan in the race.

Danny Lewin H’yd: The Very First Victim of 9/11

Today in History, September 11: 2001: The September 11 attacks destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City, part of The Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and downed a passenger airliner in Pennsylvania.

He tried to battle the hijackers. In memoriam.

Danny Lewin first walked into Samson’s Gym in Jerusalem in 1985 accompanied by his best friend, Aviad, the son of Peace Now pioneer activist Janet Aviad. Despite Danny not yet being 15, he came armed with a series of questions about Jerusalem’s legendary fitness facility, the first of its kind in Israel, and the much-talked-about new attraction in Israel’s capital. After asking about the equipment, the rates, the hours, and the type of workout program that he had hoped to get from one of the muscular instructors who seemed to epitomize the gym’s name, Danny asked a question that would seem haunting a decade and a half later. “Why are there no Arabs here and what are you afraid of?” His question seemed more a comment that stood to support the argument that would soon follow when his close friend brazenly challenged the gym’s unspoken policy.

The gym owner’s responded in his typically blunt manner: “Because we don’t want any trouble—”; yet, before he could further clarify, Danny Lewin boldly asked again: “What about the good Arabs?!” Less than a month into their initial three-month membership, Aviad dropped out. The sport was simply too demanding. Danny, on the other hand, became more and more committed, visiting Samson’s Gym even on the days he didn’t train. He saw it as his home away from home, convinced that it would serve as the vehicle by which he would transform his life, helping to develop a fine-tuned body that would complement his noticeably gifted mind. His friends marveled, and the mirror reflected evidence of the rapid development of a determined, motivated, and aspiring muscle man.

There was something special about Danny; he radiated a sense of independence more fitting of someone twice his age. Only weeks into his membership, he asked if he could get a job at the gym and join the small team of instructors who were already well recognized as they walked the streets of Jerusalem wearing the coveted Samson’s Gym trainer tee shirt. Not taking no for an answer, he asked again a few weeks later. And yet again, a few weeks later, offering to “do anything” to become part of the team. Anything! And so it was. Still new to the iron game, 15-year-old Danny Lewin rushed to Samson’s Gym from school every day—to sweep the floors, mop the showers, and, yes, to clean the toilets. He could finally call himself part of the Samson’s team. A year and a half later, the now-muscular Lewin was ready to be an instructor—training a cadre of Jews, young and old, to believe in themselves and the inner strength that they possess.

After breezing through high school and matriculation exams, Danny volunteered and served in Sayeret Matkal, the IDF’s most elite commando unit. He married at 21 and raised two young boys with his wife. He received his B.S. from the Technion, working long hours as a teaching assistant there and as a researcher for IBM in Haifa. In 1996, Danny accepted a scholarship to study computer science and mathematics at MIT. Two years later, while working on his Ph.D., he founded Akamai Technologies which offered a new and revolutionary way to deliver content over the Internet. By 2001, Danny was widely recognized as one of the most influential technologists of his generation. One well-known trade publication ranked him as the seventh most important technologist in the world. His impact on people was so strong that, even today, battle-hardened CEOs and IDF sharpshooters get choked up when talking about him, in part, because his rise was so quick, so spectacular, and so tragically short.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Danny Lewin boarded American Airlines Flight No. 11 in Boston, expecting to reach Los Angeles. Instead, the flight was hijacked and commandeered by Arab terrorists, crashing into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. On that fateful flight, Danny Lewin became the very first victim of the largest terrorist attack in history in which almost 3,000 Americans died. An internal memorandum of the Federal Aviation Administration says “that in the course of a struggle that took place between Lewin, a graduate of Israel’s elite commando unit, Sayeret Matkal, and the four hijackers who were assaulting that cockpit, Lewin was murdered by Satam Al Suqami, a 25-year-old Saudi.

Sometime after the attack, the Lewin family in Jerusalem received a telephone call from the FBI offices in New York. On the line was the agent responsible for the investigation of the attack on Flight 11. He told Danny’s parents that there is a high degree of certainty that Danny tried to prevent the hijacking. The FBI relied, among other things, on the testimony of the stewardess Amy Sweeney. Sweeney succeeded in clandestinely getting a call out during the flight to a flight services supervisor in Boston, from the rear of the plane: “A hijacker slit the throat of a passenger in business class and the passenger appears to me to be dead.” To this day the American investigators are not convinced that Danny Lewin was murdered on the spot. An additional stewardess, Betty Ong, who succeeded in calling from a telephone by one of the passenger seats, said that the passenger who was attacked from business class seat 10B was seriously wounded. It turned out that 10B was the seat of Danny Lewin.

The Lewin family, Danny’s parents and brothers, have no doubt that Danny battled the hijackers. And it is for them a tremendous consolation. “I wasn’t surprised to hear from the FBI that Danny fought. I was sure that this is what he would do,” Yonatan, his younger brother, said. “Danny didn’t sit quietly. From what we heard from the Americans, the hijackers attacked one of the stewardesses and Danny rose to protect her and prevent them from entering the cockpit. It is a consolation to us that Danny fought. We see it as an act of heroism that a person sacrifices his life in order to save others. That battle in the business section ended quickly. Lewin was overcome and bled to death on the floor. Two additional flight attendants were knifed and the captain was murdered. The hijackers were already inside the cockpit. They announced to the passengers to remain quiet in their seats.

As we fathom the tragic details of the incredible life journey of Danny Lewin, Hy’d, from mopping up the locker rooms of Samson’s Gym in Jerusalem to the pinnacle of the high tech industry in America, I am reminded of Danny’s question back in 1985, “What about the good Arabs?” Indeed, as we grasp the dimensions of 9/11 from a 10-year perspective, where were these “good Arabs” who rejected this compulsive need to murder one’s way to Islamic glory? Where are they today?

Danny Lewin H’yd –father, son and husband, a veteran of the Israel Defense Force’s elite commando team, the outstanding graduate of Israel’s Technion Institute, an accomplished PhD student at MIT and co-founder of the Internet giant Akamai Technologies will be forever remembered for his heroic attempt to prevent the hijacking of Flight 11 becoming the very first victim of 9/11.
