To me, very moving and brought back memories. As a child, with rationing, black window shades that had to be drawn at night, automobile headlights with the top half painted black, car stickers for gasoline allowances, saving of fats to be returned to the butcher after use for cooking, lines for certain foods when available… The popular songs and movies, the classmates whose fathers were killed in battle, my algebra teacher who lost his only son, fighter pilot over North Africa… Then, serving with a survivor of the Bataan death March, those wounded in battle, others taken prisoner, and seeing war ruins in Germany. What I shouldn’t be too proud to say, the posting led me to tears of remembrance and awareness of great loss, both of lives and the spirit our nation once had. Make America great again, but without war, if possible. If war takes place, may it be justified and fought with American spirit.
