How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico

My comments: I would suggest taking the test for citizenship of the United States. I answered every question correctly, however several of those questions were terribly politically correct. Note that this article is from 2006, but is still an important piece. As well, the MSM has been using 12 million illegals as the number for over 15 years. The reality of it is that we now have 50 to 60 million illegal aliens in the country. I suppose they are allowed in to replace the 60 million aborted babies who have been murdered.

George W. Bush isn’t the first Republican president to face a full-blown immigration crisis on the US-Mexican border.

Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America’s southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents – less than one-tenth of today’s force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Although there is little to no record of this operation in Ike’s official papers, one piece of historic evidence indicates how he felt. In 1951, Ike wrote a letter to Sen. William Fulbright (D) of Arkansas. The senator had just proposed that a special commission be created by Congress to examine unethical conduct by government officials who accepted gifts and favors in exchange for special treatment of private individuals.

General Eisenhower, who was gearing up for his run for the presidency, said “Amen” to Senator Fulbright’s proposal. He then quoted a report in The New York Times, highlighting one paragraph that said: “The rise in illegal border-crossing by Mexican ‘wetbacks’ to a current rate of more than 1,000,000 cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government.”

Years later, the late Herbert Brownell Jr., Eisenhower’s first attorney general, said in an interview with this writer that the president had a sense of urgency about illegal immigration when he took office.

America “was faced with a breakdown in law enforcement on a very large scale,” Mr. Brownell said. “When I say large scale, I mean hundreds of thousands were coming in from Mexico [every year] without restraint.”

Although an on-and-off guest-worker program for Mexicans was operating at the time, farmers and ranchers in the Southwest had become dependent on an additional low-cost, docile, illegal labor force of up to 3 million, mostly Mexican, laborers.

According to the Handbook of Texas Online, published by the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas State Historical Association, this illegal workforce had a severe impact on the wages of ordinary working Americans. The Handbook Online reports that a study by the President’s Commission on Migratory Labor in Texas in 1950 found that cotton growers in the Rio Grande Valley, where most illegal aliens in Texas worked, paid wages that were “approximately half” the farm wages paid elsewhere in the state.

Profits from illegal labor led to the kind of corruption that apparently worried Eisenhower. Joseph White, a retired 21-year veteran of the Border Patrol, says that in the early 1950s, some senior US officials overseeing immigration enforcement “had friends among the ranchers,” and agents “did not dare” arrest their illegal workers.

Walt Edwards, who joined the Border Patrol in 1951, tells a similar story. He says: “When we caught illegal aliens on farms and ranches, the farmer or rancher would often call and complain [to officials in El Paso]. And depending on how politically connected they were, there would be political intervention. That is how we got into this mess we are in now.”

Bill Chambers, who worked for a combined 33 years for the Border Patrol and the then-called US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), says politically powerful people are still fueling the flow of illegals.

During the 1950s, however, this “Good Old Boy” system changed under Eisenhower – if only for about 10 years.

In 1954, Ike appointed retired Gen. Joseph “Jumpin’ Joe” Swing, a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, as the new INS commissioner.

Influential politicians, including Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson (D) of Texas and Sen. Pat McCarran (D) of Nevada, favored open borders, and were dead set against strong border enforcement, Brownell said. But General Swing’s close connections to the president shielded him – and the Border Patrol – from meddling by powerful political and corporate interests.

One of Swing’s first decisive acts was to transfer certain entrenched immigration officials out of the border area to other regions of the country where their political connections with people such as Senator Johnson would have no effect.

Then on June 17, 1954, what was called “Operation Wetback” began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.

By mid-July, the crackdown extended northward into Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, and eastward to Texas.

By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.

Unlike today, Mexicans caught in the roundup were not simply released at the border, where they could easily reenter the US. To discourage their return, Swing arranged for buses and trains to take many aliens deep within Mexico before being set free.

Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships, the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships ferried the aliens from Port Isabel, Texas, to Vera Cruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles south.

The sea voyage was “a rough trip, and they did not like it,” says Don Coppock, who worked his way up from Border Patrolman in 1941 to eventually head the Border Patrol from 1960 to 1973.

Mr. Coppock says he “cannot understand why [President] Bush let [today’s] problem get away from him as it has. I guess it was his compassionate conservatism, and trying to please [Mexican President] Vincente Fox.”

There are now said to be 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the US. Of the Mexicans who live here, an estimated 85 percent are here illegally.

Border Patrol vets offer tips on curbing illegal immigration

One day in 1954, Border Patrol agent Walt Edwards picked up a newspaper in Big Spring, Texas, and saw some startling news. The government was launching an all-out drive to oust illegal aliens from the United States.

The orders came straight from the top, where the new president, Dwight Eisenhower, had put a former West Point classmate, Gen. Joseph Swing, in charge of immigration enforcement.

General Swing’s fast-moving campaign soon secured America’s borders – an accomplishment no other president has since equaled. Illegal migration had dropped 95 percent by the late 1950s.

Several retired Border Patrol agents who took part in the 1950s effort, including Mr. Edwards, say much of what Swing did could be repeated today.

“Some say we cannot send 12 million illegals now in the United States back where they came from. Of course we can!” Edwards says.

Donald Coppock, who headed the Patrol from 1960 to 1973, says that if Swing and Ike were still running immigration enforcement, “they’d be on top of this in a minute.”

William Chambers, another ’50s veteran, agrees. “They could do a pretty good job” sealing the border.

Edwards says: “When we start enforcing the law, these various businesses are, on their own, going to replace their [illegal] workforce with a legal workforce.”

While Congress debates building a fence on the border, these veterans say other actions should have higher priority.

1. End the current practice of taking captured Mexican aliens to the border and releasing them. Instead, deport them deep into Mexico, where return to the US would be more costly.

2. Crack down hard on employers who hire illegals. Without jobs, the aliens won’t come.

3. End “catch and release” for non-Mexican aliens. It is common for illegal migrants not from Mexico to be set free after their arrest if they promise to appear later before a judge. Few show up.

The Patrol veterans say enforcement could also be aided by a legalized guest- worker program that permits Mexicans to register in their country for temporary jobs in the US. Eisenhower’s team ran such a program. It permitted up to 400,000 Mexicans a year to enter the US for various agriculture jobs that lasted for 12 to 52 weeks.

MIGRANTS FROM NORTH AFRICA DESTROYING BRITISH CULTURE

By Shirley Edwards
August 16, 2026
NewsWithViews.com

[These are my views as a woman living in England, on how the culture and spirit of my country has changed over 50 years. Why the country does not feel protected or strong any more, how it has lost, and is losing it values and decency, and how we are daily losing our free speech.]

I’ve travelled through the channel tunnel just twice. The crossing from Folkestone, Dover, UK, to Calais, France, took just 35 minutes each way, but the anxiety factor was high. Driving into the back of a vehicle shuttle train, with no natural light, which drives into a tunnel, which then travels 250 feet below the sea, is not for anyone who is even a little claustrophobic.

Whilst passengers who were allowed to leave their transport and walk around their small space in the container casually marvelled at the engineering feat of the tunnel, and the speed and the convenience of travel, I had non stop talked an un-suspecting passenger into boredom, in a selfish effort to distract and escape from the fear. The experience showed me that not only does the appearance of the light at the end of the tunnel give comfort, but the need to feel safe and in control indicates a certain physical and spiritual need. No amount of distraction ultimately helps.

I’ve never gone back in the tunnel. An electricity failure, due to heavy snow fall which trapped passengers in the tunnel for 16 hours during the winter of 2009, had well and truly sealed its fate.

However, these days another safety factor in relation to the tunnel is bringing the UK to a standstill. It emphasizes the same vulnerability, fear, and lack of protection, but this time it is due to the number of illegal migrants who have been daily storming the channel tunnel in an effort to reach Britain from France. Some of them make it.

Although we have become accustomed to stories of stowaways risking their lives to get in to the UK from France, fear and anger grew last week as it was reported that 2000 migrants stormed the Euro Terminal in France in one night alone in an attempt to overthrow security to get here. There is a reported determination by migrants to never give up forcing their way.

The migrants/refugees, who include many unaccompanied children, are mainly from such countries as Afghanistan, Albania, Iraq, Kosovo, Serbia and Syria. They daily risk their lives by breaking through security fences to find ways of stowing in, or on lorries. Travellers are warned to lock their cars. Lorry drivers can be fined large amounts, or lose their jobs if they are found to be carrying stowaways. Some migrants have attempted to walk through the tunnel at great expense to their own life and those of others.

In the last 2 months, it is reported that 11 people have died either on the tracks, have been electrocuted, or crushed by trains.

Some who make it through jump out into the British countryside and then become lost in the system.

It is reported that Kevin Hurley, the former head of Scotland Yard’s counter terrorism branch and the police and crime commissioner for Surrey, has called for Ghurkha soldiers based at barracks in Folkestone to now be deployed to protect Britain’s border.

Most Recent Update.

The British people have many mixed and varied views on the problem.

Whilst some believe that it is our duty to let more migrants into our country and help them, others, who think we should deter migrants from coming to the UK are accused of being racist and un-caring.

It is quite a dilemma.

The one thing that many British people feel is completely un-protected and displaced by the growing number of people who have entered the country, most especially in the last 20 years. Because British values have been put aside to accommodate others, this now gives them very little sympathy.

In terms of feeling trapped, over-crowded, and out of control they experience the trapped in the tunnel syndrome. England, along with Holland is now the most crowded country in Europe.

Should the UK have a duty to protect and look after its own citizens first, or should we extend more of a welcome to those who are escaping from violence and oppression in their native countries? Are all of them escaping violence, or are some, as David Cameron states ‘escaping the cancer of corruption at the heart of low economic growth in poorer countries?’

They are facts which need to be found out. Breaking the law to get to the UK is not a good start.

According to Revd. David Walker, the Bishop of Manchester, there is a political rhetoric that characterises asylum seekers as wilful criminals rather than helpless victims.

He is also quoted as saying:

“Ironically, all the evidence is that families who come and make their homes in Britain, as asylum seekers and through the free movement of European citizens, add to our wealth, increase job opportunities for all and are not a net drain on housing, healthcare or other public resources. The positive case for a steady level of inward migration into the UK is economic as well as moral.”

Unfortunately, Revd, Walker paints a misleading picture. The growing population, which is added to by half a million people each year, on this small island, is putting enormous strain on our health, housing and police service. If you live in the UK you see the evidence of this.

According to statistics on Migrant Watch, “The UK, and especially England, is already so densely populated it has a chronic shortage of housing, and to cope with population increase huge amounts have to be spent on the expansion of school places, roads, rail, health and other infrastructure, during a time when public spending is being scaled back rather than increased.

“Increased migration will not generate extra tax revenue for infrastructure expansion”

Compassion not Guilt

True compassion has been shown in rescue attempts for the thousands of migrants who risk their lives in boats crossing the Meditterean Sea, where hundreds have also drowned. There is obvious sympathy for those who are escaping persecution and violence in their native lands to seek asylum.

However, reports of crime in host countries do not escape the media attention either. In April this year, it was also reported that Italy arrested 15 Muslim migrants who had pushed Christian migrants overboard in a religious hate-fuelled murder.

Overcrowding and displacement creates fear, anger and then conformity. It has obvious effects on a country. Identity becomes lost. And with an estimated 7 million people being added to the population by the year 2027, two thirds of which will be due to immigration, the future does not look bright.

What will be the answer? Is there a light at the end of our tunnel of fear?

[Editors Note: In order to build a world without borders aka New World Order, Judeo-Christianity in the developed countries like Europe and north America must be destroyed with migrants from underdeveloped countries. False compassion must be pushed by religious leaders, because people believe they are Gods servants, when in reality they serve evil. The reason migrants from underdeveloped countries are poor is lack of proper education and their government is corrupt to the core that keeps them ignorant.]

Trump Just Announced The Game-Changing Plan Everyone’s Been Waiting For – People Are Going Crazy

“We either have a country, or we don’t have a country.”

Randy DeSoto FOR WESTERNJOURNALISM.COM

As promised, Donald Trump released a comprehensive immigration reform plan over the weekend. In it, the presidential candidate lays out how he would have Mexico pay for a wall along the border. He also calls for an end to birthright citizenship for the children of those in the country illegally.

In discussing the topic of illegal immigration on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, Trump told Chuck Todd that he would rescind President Obama’s executive orders on immigration and send illegal immigrants back to their home countries.

“We’re going to keep the families together…but they have to go,” he said.

Todd followed up, asking the candidate, “What if they have no place to go?”

“We will work with them,” Trump said. “They have to go. Chuck, we either have a country, or we don’t have a country.”

In Michigan, Donald Trump takes aim at Ford Motor Co., illegal immigrants

By Keith Naughton Bloomberg News, for CRAINSDETROIT.COM

DONALD TRUMP

BIRCH RUN — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump came to the home state of the auto industry and attacked Ford Motor Co. for building factories in Mexico. And the Michigan faithful in attendance sided with the bombastic mogul.

“Ford is building a $2.5 billion plant in Mexico,” he roared to a packed auditorium in Birch Run, and 2,000 voices responded with lusty boos. “I’ll actually give them a good idea. Why don’t we just let the illegals drive the cars and trucks right into our country?”

americans are offended

The real estate developer and former reality TV star boasted that “President Trump” won’t let Dearborn-based Ford move jobs to Mexico and will convince the automaker’s CEO Mark Fields to bring jobs back to the United States.

“I would say, the deal is not going to be approved, I won’t allow it. I want that plant in the United States, preferably here,” he said, as the crowd rose to its feet, chanting “U.S.A.,” punctuated by a woman shouting “Detroit.” “So then I only have one question: Do they move the plant to the United States the same day or a day later?” Trump asked.

Playing to the fears of local residents in this ravaged industrial region 90 miles north of Detroit, Trump gave insight into why he continues to dominate the Republican field despite media firestorms over his comments on Mexican immigrants, Arizona Sen. John McCain’s war record and women. Standing before four American flags at a rostrum decorated with a small Republican elephant, Trump showed how he can fire up a GOP crowd still worried about the economy, terrorism and illegal immigrants.

“I’ve been waiting for somebody with cojones for a long time,” said Jim Maratta, 68, a Vietnam veteran sitting in the front row wearing his VFW cap and an American flag shirt. “We need somebody with guts. I want to see him do something for jobs and get those deadbeats in Congress off their butts.”

Ford countered that it is creating jobs in the United States. The automaker in April announced it is investing $2.5 billion in Mexico on two new factories to make engines and transmissions. The United Auto Workers union also objects to Ford’s growing Mexican investments and has said that will be a focal point in contract talks this summer.

“We are committed to leveraging our global manufacturing footprint and will continue to invest where it makes the best sense for our business,” said Karl Henkel, a Ford spokesman. “We are proud that we have invested $6.2 billion in our U.S. plants since 2011 and hired nearly 25,000 U.S. employees.”

Trump managed to avoid the controversy over comments about Fox News reporter Megyn Kelly that has dogged him since last Thursday’s Republican debate. After Kelly questioned him aggressively during the debate, Trump told CNN: “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”

Despite those comments that many viewed as relating to a woman’s menstrual cycle — which Trump denied — his wide lead in the polls has remained steadfast. He won the support of 23 percent of those polled by NBC News/Survey Monkey over the weekend. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was next with 13 percent.

But Trump didn’t shy from assailing illegal immigrants from Mexico while in Michigan.

“If it weren’t for me, the words ‘illegal immigrant’ wouldn’t be spoken right now,” Trump shouted, waving his hands with the cobra flick that suggests he’s about to fire someone. “We have to build a wall!”

With that, the crowd began stomping and chanting “Trump, Trump, Trump.”

“You can be a natural born citizen and not get a 10th of the benefits that illegal immigrants do,” John Grant, a real estate developer from Brighton said as he left the speech wearing a newly purchased Trump button. “We need someone to say what’s on their mind and to speak the truth.”

In comments to reporters prior to his speech, Trump said he is 100 percent certain — “mark it down” — he could convince Mexico to pay for a wall along the U.S. border to curb illegal immigration.

“Mexico is going to pay for the wall and they’re going to be happy about it because the cost of the wall is peanuts compared to the kind of money they’re making” off the United States, Trump said. “Their leaders are much smarter and sharper and more cunning than our leaders.”

Outside the Birch Run Expo Center, however, the mood was less pro-Trump. Gilberto Guevara said he feels like he’s in the crosshairs whenever the billionaire “shoots from the hip.”

Guevara, a Vietnam veteran and Mexican American, said he was offended when Trump questioned McCain’s heroism as a POW in Vietnam and he’s tired of the characterization of Mexican Americans are a menace to society. That’s why he joined about 200 other protesters waving Mexican flags, holding “Dump Trump” placards and shouting “No bullies in our state.”

“When he makes his comments, he’s just looking to get on the national news,” said Guevara, 72, wearing his VFW hat and holding a sign that read “All American Veterans Are Heros.” “My parents came from Mexico. And we are law abiding citizens. We’re productive. We contribute to the economy and we’re educated. He just needs to stop shooting from the hip.”

Ironically, Guevara may have an ally in Michigan’s Republican governor, Rick Snyder, who last week criticized Trump’s incendiary rhetoric.

“He’s had a lot of success in terms of business, but a number of his comments are clearly inappropriate and would be a major concern,” Snyder said in an interview last week with the Associated Press. “And I think that’s something people need to take into account in their decision-making process.”

Who is doing the Raping?

In the following clip, Donald Trump revealed his source for the story regarding illegal aliens and rape was Fusion, a subsidiary of Univision/Disney and ABC. We found he is absolutely correct. Fusion has videos detailing sexual violence and sex traffic is a common currency in the Mexican underworld of cross-border traffic.

Here’s his brief conversation with Don Lemon:

Here is the Fusion/Univision/Disney video titled, “Is Rape the Price to Pay for the American Dream?” posted on the Fusion Youtube Channel:

Another excellent multi-installment video produced by Fusion/Univision examines the world of cross-border white slavery and sex trafficking featuring Loretta Lynch, before she assumed the position of US Attorney General. As a US Attorney, she fought to stop the massive influx of Hispanic prostitutes, enslaved in Mexico and trafficked across the border to all major cities in the US. It’s called “Pimp City: A Fusion Documentary”

In Washington State in 2010, Jose Lopez Madrigal, an illegal with 9 deportations under his belt, raped a young mentally-challenged woman behind a dumpster of a Safeway store when she got off the bus. The local NBC affiliate, King5 News reported the story. http://www.king5.com/story/news/local/2014/07/30/12867316/

Bellingham Washington was the site of another violent rape by Hector Salinas, an illegal immigrant with a long criminal record with 5 deportations under his belt:

Hector Salinas, 38, was convicted of raping the 58-year-old disabled homeless woman in a Bellingham park in 2008. Salinas was in the U.S. from Mexico illegally. KING 5 uncovered last week that Salinas has been convicted with several violent crimes in the past, including
Robbery, Assault, Theft and Selling illegal narcotics.

He served prison time in Washington and California. According to court records, Salinas has been deported at least five times. http://www.ktvb.com/story/news/local/regional/2014/06/27/11520055/

July 13, 2026 Illegal Mexican Immigrant Charged with Kidnapping and Sexual Assault: Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez: A 23-year-old man who told police he entered the United States illegally from Mexico has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 13-year-old Florida girl.

The Van Buren County sheriff’s office in southwestern Michigan says Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez was arraigned Friday in South Haven. The girl was last seen Tuesday and was reported missing to the Polk County sheriff’s office in Florida.
