State Department’s Mission: Coup d’etat

State Department's Mission: Coup d'etat

Posted By: Vicky

On July 21, 1993, Tim Wirth gave a talk to employees of the State Department on the new direction for State.   Wirth explained that for the last 50 years the organizing principle for the United States had been the Cold War.  The end of the Cold War left a vacuum and the Department of State needed to define a new mission and a new organizing principle for the Department of State.

The world revolved around the Cold War.  For the most part, it was remote from domestic life in the United States because the “war” – was nation-state against nation-state and the players in the spy game were military, the CIA, and the State Department acting mostly in secret.   Only the propaganda reached the public and the main message was be afraid – be very afraid.

Wirth announced that a new unit was being established within the Department of State to define the new mission and to establish the organizational structure to carry it out.  Wirth was appointed to head up the new unit which was the Office of Global Affairs.   The new mission would be comprised of promoting and advocating for:

  1. Democracy & Human Rights
  2. Population – reduction
  3. Environment
  4. Sustainable Development

The clue that the new mission had been in the planning for a long time was when Tim Wirth mentioned the Global 2000 Report and a “basket of issues”.   The production of the Global 2000 Report was ordered by Jimmy Carter and the “basket of issues” refers to the Helsinki Final Act that was signed by Gerald Ford in 1975.  The following are links to prior research that will begin to explain a little about both but I have a lot more than just these two:

Discovering History:  The Helsinki Final Act, A New World Coming into View

The Smart Grid:  Rest of the Story, Part 5, The Nut… Farmer from Georgia

Those two references are prima facie evidence of premeditation in what has been an attempted coup d’etat on the nation-state we know as the United States.  When the implications of that evidence are combined with what Tim Wirth had to say concerning working with multilateral organizations and the development of domestic constituencies to advocate for State Department policies, it’s really no different than a foreign power attempting a coup d’etat on the United States.

The State Department has no business operating domestically.   Since the Refugee Resettlement program is a program of the United Nations through the State Department, it has to be considered that this is a State Department move to build their constituency.  Their constituencies are foreigners – not Americans.   That’s treason.

Of course I’m not saying that on the basis one appearance on a C-Span program 23 years ago.  I’m saying it on the basis of my years of research since ~ 2003.  The following is one piece of the puzzle that supports what I’m saying:

Samuel “Sandy Burgler” Berger: Nexus between 9/11 and the North American Union (NAU).

I took a clip of what I thought were the most significant things Tim Wirth had to say but theentire one hour program should be viewed.

States’ Rights is the Solution

States' Rights is the Solution

States’ Rights is the Solution

The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) is attempting to charge water rights holders for water released from storage. In other words, they want to charge the irrigators for water over the dam even though the irrigators haven’t used it.

Legislators were baffled by the actions of the IDWR. They talked about the Constitution, the law and an administrative farce of a hearing in which the Director of the IDWR appointed himself as the hearing officer and he made a decision on the water issue agreeing with himself.

Some of the thoughts that raced through my mind – excluding the expletives were: Really? The Irrigators are asking for the help of Idahoans on their water issue – when they quietly accept the vastly reduced electric power rates that all residential Idaho electric users subsidize? They want the help of Idahoans when they support illegal immigration so that they have cheap labor for their farms despite the cost to Idahoans for the lost jobs, increased costs for education and health care for that cheap labor? You’re telling me that the farmers in this state who have been silent on the refugee resettlement issue that will bring with it, the end western civilization… and they want our help? Aren’t you the same people who support the “free trade” agreements that have nearly destroyed the rest of the economy – putting Americans out of work and causing the export of manufacturing of this country while flooding our markets with cheap imports and now you want our help…Really?

And the legislators – the ones who are talking about the Constitution and water rights – aren’t they the same legislators who voted to approve HB 1/S.1067 requiring Idaho courts to recognize the decisions of foreign courts? Aren’t they the same legislators who allowed Idaho Power to put smart meters on our homes in violation of our rights to be secure in our homes and protected against electronic surveillance behind the walls of our homes and enabling extortion pricing? I wondered how many of those legislators voted to approve participation in the Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) in violation of Article 1, Section 10. And now they want us to recognize our Constitution, history and heritage on a water rights issue… Really?

Senator Grant Burgoyne said that he’s tried to find out why the IDWR is doing this but he can’t get a straight answer. He said the best answer he can get from the IDWR Director is that he wants to make everybody happy.

I’ve tried communicating with legislators in the past but was told that they want only bullet points. No detail, no context, no history – nothing but bullet points because they are really too busy to understand the issues. Ok.. here are your bullet points:

  • UN Agenda 21
  • Administrative System

Oh… but you say, that’s the United Nations program and it has nothing to do with our country. Wrong. When the Congress in 1945 voted to participate in the UN, they were voting away the sovereignty of our country. It didn’t happen immediately. It’s taken 70 years of incremental cannibalization of the American Constitutional system of government and at this point, it’s hanging by a thread.

The Agencies of the federal government operate through the Administrative System. Congress passes legislation that the Agencies use to create regulations. The regulations they are creating are the United Nations Agenda 21 program because the federal Agencies are required by law to enforce treaty obligations and they do it through the administrative system on the authority that Congress gives them.

To the irrigators and the legislators, you’ve been sleeping with the devil and now you want help to escape his clutches. Speaking for myself – and I believe the patriot community, we stand ready to help you reclaim states’ rights but you must do it for all Idahoans on all issues and not just for your own ox that was gored.

We must start by getting out of the interstate compacts and start dismantling the administrative systems within the state and extricating ourselves from the federal administrative systems. Laws, rules, regulations must be made by Idahoans – for Idahoans and not by outsiders to the state.

Are you man enough? Are you woman enough? Do you have any remnants of the guts and gumption of the pioneers who settled this land? You’re going to need them to rise to the occasion and to lead (that’s what you were elected to do) us out of this wilderness.

I hope you do because if you do, I’m in.

I have been saying on my show – that nobody listens to … That they are ERASING America!
Re-Named it “The Homeland” I predicted it in 1991 – On air!
China is taking over… They have a short window to condition us to communism
They have to remove God (China Hates God) Erase history – Trash the Bill of Rights!
It’s all being done – systematically – Big strides every day
But nobody will listen…
On 9/12/2001 I broke a story about the Saudi’s being behind 911
People said I was NUTS! But recently – Former Senator Bob Graham
was shown the truth – He came out – Fox talked about it like 1 time…
It was quieted FAST…
This is it Kel…
I warned my listeners in 1992 – We put out the Boycott China Bumper stickers
I said then “Don’t finance your own destruction”!
Nobody cared… Now – Nobody remembers…
God gave me a gift – a window into the future – zany as some of my ideas seemed…
They all came true…

I said the Gays wanted into the schools – wanted marriage – would eventually get it
if Christians didn’t fight back…
Right again…
I warned on Outcome based education
Psycho drugs
On and On and On and On – I could list a thousand predictions I made
that have all come true… Crazy shit people laughed at me for saying…
I am ready to SCREAM – Why didn’t people listen to what I was telling them…

Please Lord Jesus – Show me your will… Give me wisdom and strength Oh Lord!
Take up my heavy yoke Lord Jesus – Forgive me for all my failings Lord…  — Amen

U.S. Power Grid Being Hit With ‘Increasing’ Hacking Attacks

U.S. Power Grid Being Hit With ‘Increasing’ Hacking Attacks, Government Warns

Potential to ‘take down’ U.S. power grids, water systems and other critical infrastructure.

Major attacks on the U.S. power grid system are “increasing,” with hackers stepping up efforts to penetrate critical systems and to implant malicious software that could compromise the power grid and result in a nationwide crisis, according to a government report.

While experts have long signaled that the U.S. power grid and related systems are vulnerable to physical attacks by terrorists and other individuals, the U.S. government is now warning that sensitive computer systems that maintain the grid are increasingly being attacked, according to a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report that was not made public until the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) disclosed it this month.

The report warns that hackers potentially affiliated with terrorist groups or rogue nations have the ability to insert harmful malware into the internal systems governing the U.S. grid, which increasingly are being hooked into the Internet.

These types of computer viruses are able to comb internal systems for private information in a clandestine manner; they can also be used to wrest control of certain computers away from their owners.

“In recent years, new threats have materialized as new vulnerabilities have come to light, and a number of major concerns have emerged about the resilience and security of the nation’s electric power system,” the report says. “In particular, the cyber security of the electricity grid has been a focus of recent efforts to protect the integrity of the electric power system.”

The threat is compounded by the revelation that many power companies are only living up to the “minimum standards” set for cyber security by the U.S. government.

“Although malware intrusions may not have resulted in a significant disruption of grid operations so far, they still have been possible even with mandatory standards in place,” the report states.

Cyber attacks on the U.S. grid and power companies are becoming more prevalent.

“Incidents of reported cyber intrusions and attacks aimed at undermining the U.S. grid appear to be increasing,” according to the report. “While parts of the electric power subsector have mandatory and enforceable cyber and physical security standards, some have argued that minimum, consensus-based standards are not enough to secure the system.”

The report continues: “Further, the electric grid is not isolated from attacks on other critical infrastructure sectors on which it depends (i.e., the natural gas subsector, water, and transportation), and mandatory and enforceable cyber security standards apply to only a few of the critical infrastructure sectors,” the report states.

Experts and government authorities remain concerned about attacks on “critical infrastructure.”

“The increasing frequency of cyber intrusions on industrial control systems of critical infrastructure is a trend of concern to the electric utility industry,” the report warns “The National Security Agency reported that it has seen intrusions into [industrial control] systems by entities with the apparent technical capability ‘to take down control systems that operate U.S. power grids, water systems and other critical infrastructure.’”

The report documents a number of recent attacks on U.S. power grid computer systems.

In October 2014, for instance, the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT) revealed that “several industrial control systems has been infected” by a virus capable of gathering information about how the grid system functions.

“Hackers are reported to have used the BlackEnergy Trojan horse to deliver plug-in modules used for several purposes, including keylogging, audio recording, and grabbing screenshots,” according to the report. “Researchers looking at the BlackEnergy malware are reported to have identified a plug-in that can destroy hard disks, and believe that the attackers will activate the module once they are discovered in order to hide their presence.”

Another virus named HAVEX has been used to open so-called “back doors” into computer systems.

“The cyberattack leaves the company’s system in what appears to be a normal operating condition, but the attacker now has a backdoor to access and possibly control the company’s” control systems.

These threats, the report warns, are only growing more sophisticated as the industry struggles to combat such attacks.

“The threats facing the grid are evolving, and with each new intrusion or cyber attack, priorities to protect the system can shift,” the report explains. “But that does not mean previous attacks can be considered past issues.”

While nation-states may use such attacks to gather data, experts believe they are less likely to launch an attack due to the prospect of likely retaliation by the United States.

However, terrorists have no such concern, the report says.

“A terrorist or similar organization would likely be undeterred by such a consequence [of potential retaliation], and may use the worm for its own purposes,” according to the report. “Given the potential for damage to the nation’s economy from a major cyberattack on the grid, some might suggest a greater focus on recovery is needed and should become as much a part of a cybersecurity strategy as are efforts to secure the system

Confederate Ideology and the Second Amendment

Posted: 06/23/2015 6:12 pm EDT Updated: 06/23/2015 6:59 pm EDT
It is all to the good that the Confederate flag is now being seen as odious and hateful by most Americans. It truly has been a symbol of hate and injustice going all the way back. In the Civil War it was used to rally slave-holders and their sympathizers to battle. And in the segregationist South of the 1950s and 1960s, it was revived as a means of expressing resistance to the cause of civil rights and equality. It is time to strike those colors once and for all, remove them from the South Carolina statehouse grounds, expunge them from the Mississippi state flag, and banish them from any and all places of honor in American society.

But we should go deeper than asking for symbolic change, as important as that is. I’d like in particular to call attention to a troubling development found mostly in deep red, Republican states, and that is the unholy marriage between Confederate ideology and the Second Amendment.

The bond that unites Confederate ideology and the Second Amendment is the idea of “nullification.” This is the belief that the states are the ultimate arbiters of what is or is not constitutional and that the states are thus always free to ignore federal law. States and not the courts, on this warped view of the Constitution, judge what is or is not constitutional.

This ideology has a long and deep and ignoble history. We might begin with John Taylor of Caroline (1753-1824), whom Garry Wills called “the principal theorist of nullification.” He was a lawyer and a planter who sought to insulate his home state of Virginia from what he feared as early as the 1790s to be the growing, threatening powers of the national government.

The best way to defend Virginia, Taylor proposed, was to ensure that the states were the final word on what the Constitution meant. States, he argued, always retained the right, if not the responsibility, to disobey the federal government where they believed the federal government overstepped constitutional limits. Taylor meant by this doctrine to strengthen and make secure the system of slavery, from which he personally profited, since Virginia and the other Southern states would always be free to declare null and void any federal law infringing on slave-holders’ “rights.”

In the 1820s and 1830s, this proposal was worked into a full-blown constitutional theory by John C. Calhoun (1782-1850). Calhoun opposed the federal tariff that was then threatening the profitability of South Carolina’s plantation-based way of life. Fearing the implicit threat to the slave-based economy, Calhoun insisted that South Carolina might declare the tariff unconstitutional.

South Carolina tried to do just that in 1832, but backed off this ledge when confronted with federal military intervention. South Carolina climbed back onto that ledge in 1860/1861 when it — and other Southern states — seceded from the Union.

These states acted as they did because they believed that the states might judge the federal government and withdraw from the Union as a last resort. Nullification, in other words, was a prominent feature of the constitutional theory that justified the Confederacy. It was a doctrine finally repudiated by the Civil War and by the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868.

What does this history have to do with the Second Amendment? Simply this: Nullification, a concept that should have died a century and a half ago, has been resurrected from the tomb by gun-rights extremists and is triumphing in legislature after legislature in America’s deep-red states.

Consider Kansas. Kansas under the leadership of Governor Sam Brownback, is well-known for its extremist politics. Brownback’s fiscal policies have wrecked the Kansas economy, Kansas education, and much else. Brownback has sought steady reductions in the state income tax, substituting for it “the highest tax on food in the nation.” And what does Kansas have to show for its regressive fiscal policy? While most regions of the United States are enjoying economic recovery, Kansas is not. In May, 2015, a report showed that Kansas lost “nearly 4,000 jobs … trailing the national trend.”

That is bad enough, a tragedy for the Kansans who are suffering under Brownback’s misrule. But just as bad is the gun legislation he has signed. In 2013, the state legislature enacted the “Second Amendment Protection Act.” By its terms, the legislation ostensibly prohibits the federal government from enforcing federal gun control laws on Kansas soil with respect to certain classes of weapons.

Alright, you might say, Brownback is an unrepentant extremist. But, unfortunately, Kansas is not an outlier. In recent years, other red states have followed a similar path. Bruce Otter is the 70-something governor of Idaho. He has spent a lifetime in Idaho politics, he is a staunchly conservative Republican in tune with his constituents, but he has never caused anyone to question whether he is tethered to reality. He is not typically prone to conspiracy theories or the other fever dreams that haunt the far right.

But even Bruce Otter has recently felt politically compelled to sign nullification legislation declaring that the federal government lacked the constitutional authority to enforce gun-control legislation within Idaho’s borders. And, really, he had little choice. The Idaho nullification statute passed the legislature unanimously.

For sure, in any constitutional showdown, neither Kansas, nor Idaho, nor the other red states that have embarked on this fool’s errand will prevail. The federal government has the authority to ensure that the laws it enacts are duly enforced in all 50 states.

The neo-nullificationist movement, however, represents a dangerous trend. Grassroots conservatism is no longer part and parcel of mainstream American life. For there is nothing about nullificationist ideology that represents American values. It is the failed constitutional theory of a treasonous movement — Southern secession. Its modern-day resuscitation can only be seen as a kind of existential alienation on the right.

I am grateful to see Nikki Haley and Mitt Romney and other Republican leaders finally take a stand on the Confederate flag. It is an unambiguous symbol of hate and sedition and needs to be retired to a museum where its true place in American history might be explained.

But Republicans must go beyond the flag debate to confront the simmering ideological stew on the far right. The idea of nullification in its own way is equally odious. It is a failed constitutional theory that should likewise be banished to a museum of legal antiquities. It has no place in modern-day America. It is frightening that such an idea has captured the imagination of so many Republican legislators. It is an idea that the national GOP leadership should repudiate, and soon. Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and the rest of the candidates, we’re talking to you.

CNN Host Suggests Taking Down ‘Racist’ Jefferson Statues

Because America’s third president owned slaves

by Paul Joseph Watson | June 24, 2015

The debate over whether to remove Confederate flags from government buildings took a bizarre new twist yesterday when CNN host Ashleigh Banfield suggested that statues of Thomas Jefferson should also be taken down because he owned slaves.

During a segment with co-host Don Lemon, Banfield said, “Jefferson owned slaves….and there’s a monument to him in the capital of the United States, no one ever asks for that to come down – is it equal?”

Lemon said the comparison wasn’t equal, but went on to add, “There may come a day when we want to re-think Jefferson….when we get to that point, I’ll be happy to partake in that particular discussion.”

Since last week’s Charleston shooting, innumerable prominent voices on the left have called for the Confederate flag to be removed from government buildings and state license plates in the south, with major retailers like Walmart, Amazon, Sears, and eBay all de-listing products which feature the flag from their websites.

As the Daily Surge points out, the notion that Jefferson vehemently endorsed slavery is a complete fallacy.

“Thomas Jefferson–like a lot of people 270 years ago–owned slaves. He inherited them from his father. Jefferson gave away many of the estimated 170 slaves he owned after his death. While writing in the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal,” Jefferson didn’t believe blacks and whites were equals.”

“But Thomas Jefferson didn’t want to divorce from the union in order to preserve slavery. In fact, Jefferson wrote constantly and argued regularly about whether or not the founders should include the abolition of slavery in the Bill of Rights.”

As Rush Limbaugh argues, the move to ban the Confederate flag from government buildings is less about racial sensitivity and more about Democrats exploiting the Charleston massacre for their own cynical political purposes.

“This effort to have the battle flag of northern Virginia removed is really an attempt to segregate and isolate the entire South and to sort of Alinsky it. You know, the Rules for Radicals, you seek the target, you isolate it, you attack it, humiliate it. This flag represents what the left believes is the last remaining Republican electoral stronghold in terms of presidential politics, and that would be the South. So this is an effort going far beyond the Confederate flag or the battle flag of the army of northern Virginia,” Limbaugh said during his radio show yesterday.

In making the suggestion to remove Jefferson statues, Banfield is appropriating a similar mentality to ISIS terrorists, who have spent the last year tearing down historical statues and monuments because they offend their radical belief system.

In Banfield’s case, the radical ideology is extreme liberalism, which as this clip once again illustrates, is nothing less than a mental disorder.

As Zero Hedge writes, “It seems few had any major “tear down these flags” problems with The Confederate Flag until some nutjob kills less people than die in Chicago every Friday night. Populist policy-setting and news media provocation by Lowest Common Denominator appears to be the nanny-state’s new media normal.”

Valerie Jarrett’s Commie Daddy, Granddaddy Etc…

FBI Files Document Communism in Valerie Jarrett’s Family

JUNE 22, 2015

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) files obtained by Judicial Watch reveal that the dad, maternal grandpa and father-in-law of President Obama’s trusted senior advisor, Valerie Jarrett, were hardcore Communists under investigation by the U.S. government.

Jarrett’s dad, pathologist and geneticist Dr. James Bowman, had extensive ties to Communist associations and individuals, his lengthy FBI file shows. In 1950 Bowman was in communication with a paid Soviet agent named Alfred Stern, who fled to Prague after getting charged with espionage. Bowman was also a member of a Communist-sympathizing group called the Association of Internes and Medical Students. After his discharge from the Army Medical Corps in 1955, Bowman moved to Iran to work, the FBI records show.

According to Bowman’s government file the Association of Internes and Medical Students is an organization that “has long been a faithful follower of the Communist Party line” and engages in un-American activities. Bowman was born in Washington D.C. and had deep ties to Chicago, where he often collaborated with fellow Communists. JW also obtained documents on Bowman from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) showing that the FBI was brought into investigate him for his membership in a group that “follows the communist party line.” The Jarrett family Communist ties also include a business partnership between Jarrett’s maternal grandpa, Robert Rochon Taylor, and Stern, the Soviet agent associated with her dad.

Jarrett’s father-in-law, Vernon Jarrett, was also another big-time Chicago Communist, according to separate FBI files obtained by JW as part of a probe into the Jarrett family’s Communist ties. For a period of time Vernon Jarrett appeared on the FBI’s Security Index and was considered a potential Communist saboteur who was to be arrested in the event of a conflict with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). His FBI file reveals that he was assigned to write propaganda for a Communist Party front group in Chicago that would “disseminate the Communist Party line among…the middle class.”

It’s been well documented that Valerie Jarrett, a Chicago lawyer and longtime Obama confidant, is a liberal extremist who wields tremendous power in the White House. Faithful to her roots, she still has connections to many Communist and extremist groups, including the Muslim Brotherhood. Jarrett and her family also had strong ties to Frank Marshal Davis, a big Obama mentor and Communist Party member with an extensive FBI file.

JW has exposed Valerie Jarrett’s many transgressions over the years, including her role in covering up a scandalous gun-running operation carried out by the Department of Justice (DOJ). Last fall JW obtained public records that show Jarrett was a key player in the effort to cover up that Attorney General Eric Holder lied to Congress about the Fast and Furious, a disastrous experiment in which the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) allowed guns from the U.S. to be smuggled into Mexico so they could eventually be traced to drug cartels. Instead, federal law enforcement officers lost track of hundreds of weapons which have been used in an unknown number of crimes, including the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Arizona.

In 2008 JW got documents linking Valerie Jarrett, who also served as co-chairman of Obama’s presidential transition team, to a series of real estate scandals, including several housing projects operated by convicted felon and Obama fundraiser/friend Antoin “Tony” Rezko. According to the documents obtained from the Illinois Secretary of State, Valerie Jarrett served as a board member for several organizations that provided funding and support for Chicago slum projects operated by Rezko.

The Johnson Amendment and the Agenda to Silence Christians

By  from DAVE FIORAZO.COM

AMENDMENT

We did not get here overnight. Attacks on religious freedoms and on the speech of Christians in America did not just appear in the last several years. The attempted muzzling of Christian churches and religious groups has gradually increased since a pivotal law was passed by a shrewd politician to intimidate people of faith. The repercussions have been devastating.

The 1954 Johnson Amendment passed by Congress stated that non-profits (read: Christian churches and organizations) could not speak in favor of any political candidate. Was this even constitutional?

This key but forgotten event paved the way for the increased squelching of free speech and because of the confusion and misinformation about the law, many religious leaders have been unnecessarily self-censoring for decades.

The following is an excerpt from the chapter, “The Separation of Christianity and State” in the book, The Cost of Our Silence:

“Texas Democrat, Lyndon B. Johnson, was a powerful politician running for reelection as Senator, but two anti-communist, tax-exempt groups were opposing him and passing out literature during the campaigns. He contacted the IRS and found the group’s activity was legal, so he sought other options to fight them.

Johnson shrewdly appeared on the Senate floor on July 2, 1954, and offered his amendment to a pending, massive, tax code overhaul bill. The bill was supposed to modernize the tax code. Records indicate an absence of committee hearings on the amendment. No legislative analysis took place to examine the effect the bill and the amendment would have, particularly on churches and religious organizations. The amendment was simply created to protect Johnson.

The Johnson Amendment was passed by Congress as an amendment to section 501(c)(3) of the federal tax code… stating entities that are exempt from federal income tax cannot “Participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of – or in opposition to – any candidate for public office.”

1954 johnson amendment

The Left uses this to bully Christian pastors and groups with threats of losing their nonprofit status should they dare talk about the Bible as it relates to cultural, political, fiscal, and social issues, which all fall under the category of moral issues.

Erik Stanley, author and Senior Legal Counsel of the Alliance Defense Fund, explained the Johnson Amendment was a bill that got inserted into the tax code through back-room deals made by a powerful Senator seeking reelection at any cost. As a result of the bill, freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion have been trampled. Stanley stated:

We have grown up with a generation of churchgoers that believe it is illegal for their pastor to address candidates and elections in light of Scripture or church doctrine when there is no valid justification for believing that.

Johnson knew how to use the political process to silence his enemies. The new amendment not only protected him from the conservative nonprofit groups opposing him, but many pastors stopped speaking about any issue from the pulpit that might be deemed political either out of ignorance of the new law or out of fear. By this self-censoring, the church has chosen to ignore open immorality in culture and in government while at the same time neglecting to call attention to those political leaders who do strive to live according to Christian morals and values.

One might conclude Lyndon B. Johnson not only silenced America’s churches, his legislation has turned many of them into agents of the state. What about labor unions, liberal churches, and leftist organizations? Why have many of them apparently been allowed to not only endorse and support political candidates, but openly fund their campaigns? This is the hypocrisy of selective law enforcement by the (in)Justice Department and the IRS, a partisan government agency recently exposed in the targeting of conservative groups…

Have we also hesitated to address the severe persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters around the world due to radical Islam? I have to believe we all care about Christian suffering and the fact millions have lost their lives because of their faith in Jesus Christ. What I also want to believe is that religious leaders in America are not afraid to talk about why this is happening.

In an article for American Thinker, Bill Warner wrote about persecution in Islamic nations “caused by Muslim jihadists who are following the Islamic doctrine of jihad against the Christian as found in the Koran, Sira, and Hadith.” Warner points to pastors and church leaders who have become comfortable operating their churches more like 501(c)(3) institutions that have meetings on Sunday. They have a corporate mentality which he believes is one of the reasons for the denial of Christian suffering.

If you are willing to see the doctrinal roots of the ongoing murder of Christians by Muslims, then you might have to speak about it from the pulpit, and that could be seen as political speech. In spite of the fact that there has never been a 501(c)(3) revoked because of political speech by a minister, the imagined loss silences ministers. Hmmm… if a minister is worried about the IRS revoking his 501(c)(3), then whom is the minster serving? Caesar or Christ?

Are these harsh words any less true of at least a small number of religious leaders in America? If your pastor resembles more of a business person or CEO than a military leader preparing his troops for battle, it may be time to approach him in love and encourage him to address persecution, sin, the culture war, and politics from time to time.

Because many misunderstand why politics were supposedly forbidden in church, some Christians have mistakenly assumed that the process of voting and electing America’s leaders is either unbiblical or unimportant. Only about 25 percent of Christians vote in elections today. Some pastors do talk about their own obligation to impact society by equipping the saints, and do address the controversial issues of today. We need to pray for and rally around Christian leaders such as these.

Though the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment will continue to be wrongly applied to cases involving religion, we can help by raising awareness. We can also elect representatives who revere the Bible they place their hand on when taking their oath of office. Enemies of Christianity and of America have become emboldened, and people of faith need to be reminded we are provided the freedom of religion and its expression under the Constitution.

Our ultimate allegiance and responsibility however, is to the Word of God.

The truth is churches have a tremendous amount of freedom. From the pulpit, actual limitations include: Pastors cannot openly endorse a particular candidate, tell people whom to vote for, or contribute church money to a campaign. A pastor is absolutely free to do so as an individual outside the church. Pastors, churches, and nonprofits can lawfully speak in detail about all biblical issues. They may also quote any Scripture in the Bible, discuss unethical abortion funding and the protection of marriage, and distribute voter guides and information as well as register folks to vote. Churches can invite politicians to come in and speak to their congregations as long as they extend an invitation to both parties.

I do understand the concern some pastors have about mixing religion and government, but we cannot divorce our faith from our politics. If we do, we’d have to leave Jesus at home or outside when we enter the voting booth if that were even possible. Politics affect many areas of our lives, and the Bible has answers and instructions for every single one. Christians must have a voice when it comes to who is elected, what policies get promoted, and which laws get passed.

Someone’s legislation and worldview will surely be enacted and enforced in America – so will it be those who oppose Christianity or those who support it?

Are we willing to remind and inform this generation about who we are and what America once was? Are we willing to speak the truth about Christ and culture no matter how unpopular we may become? The nation has not yet declined to a point of total ungodliness and destruction, and our government needs our prayers and our participation to generate a revival. Concerned Christians must unite again. Every believer should see the need to speak up with a sense of urgency whether you are a parent, a pastor, or a person in the public square.

The Reverend Don Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association, has been instrumental in fighting for the family and Christian values in our country. He wrote the following over ten years ago:

Today, 4,000 innocent precious lives of unborn babies were snuffed out . . . And 300,000 pulpits are silent . . . The networks make a mockery of Christians, the Christian faith and Christian values with nearly every show they air. Greed, materialism, violence, sexual immorality are standard fare. Program after program, movie after movie contains anti-Christian episodes and plots. News articles condescendingly refer to the “fundamentalists, right-wing Christians.” Those who speak out for the sacredness of life are branded as extremists. And 300,000 pulpits are silent.

Teenage suicide is the highest it has ever been . . . Christian morality cannot be taught in schools, but atheistic immorality can . . . And 300,000 pulpits are silent. Rape has increased 700 percent in the last fifty years, and that takes into consideration the population growth . . . And 300,000 pulpits are silent.

Rock music fills the airwaves and our children’s minds with music which legitimizes rape, murder, forced sex, sadomasochism, adultery, satanic worship, etc. And 300,000 pulpits are silent. A majority of states now have lotteries [gambling has been legalized, no longer a crime]. And 300,000 pulpits are silent.

Perhaps your pastor or church leader has in fact been speaking out on these and many other problems in our society. Thank him and encourage him! You are blessed to have him and the church in America needs more like him. Our hope is for Christian leaders to do what Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Confessing Church in Germany chose to do; put the Word of God above all things. We must not have any gods besides the one true God. Real faith cannot be silenced by government orders.

If we do nothing and the majority remains silent, the secular progressives win. Then, with God removed from all aspects of American society, they will be the ones to rule, deciding what is right and wrong, true and false, moral and immoral.

As the great Reverend Charles Finney once said,

“God will bless or curse America depending on the course Christians take in politics; they must vote for honest men and take consistent ground.”

We have been losing ground because Christians have not first been firmly established in their faith, and second; we have not been openly preaching and living the Word of God without compromise. I admit my past failures in this area and have confessed them to the Lord; how about you?

The most important thing is not winning battles for culture or country, but winning eternal battles for the kingdom of God. To win the souls of men, the whole truth of the whole gospel must be proclaimed. True Christianity cannot be confined behind the walls of any church…
