And well he shouldn’t be. Bill Haslam is one of the worst of the phony right wing neo-con Trotskyites. Before he ran for governor, he had belonged to Bloomberg’s Mayor’s Against Illegal Guns for five years. He knew he couldn’t be elected as governor of Tennessee unless he was pro-second amendment, so he quit the Bloomberg outfit, joined the NRA as a life time member, and told everyone that he figured out Bloomberg’s outfit was really no good. It only took him five years to figure that out, ahem.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — More than 70,000 gun enthusiasts were set to descend on Nashville for the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting, but they won’t be hearing from one prominent Tennessean: Republican Governor Bill Haslam.
A Haslam spokesman confirmed that the governor won’t be welcoming the crowd to the new Music City Center on Friday.
An NRA spokeswoman praised the governor and his staff for helping bring the convention to Tennessee, but she said the NRA was unable to accommodate a speaking role for Haslam at the opening of the event that will feature several potential Republican presidential candidates.
Some gun rights advocates have been wary of Haslam for his membership in Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group co-founded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, before he ran for governor in 2010.
