GOP candidates Ben Carson and Donald Trump got into a dust-up this week following comments the doctor made regarding The Donald’s faith.

At a campaign event on Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif., Carson responded to a reporter’s question asking him to differentiate himself from his fellow non-establishment candidate.

“I’ve realized where my success has come from and I don’t in any way deny my faith in God,” Carson said. “And I think that is the big difference.”

Carson also said he does not get the sense that faith is a major part of Trump’s life. “I haven’t seen it,” he said. The former neurosurgeon quoted one of his favorite Bible passages – Proverbs 22:4: “By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life,” adding, “that’s a very big part of who I am. I don’t get that impression [from Trump], maybe I’m wrong but I don’t get that,” said Carson.

Trump responded by tweeting:

Earlier this month, Trump said of Carson, “I like Ben a lot. He’s a good guy,” but Carson’s remarks clearly stirred anger in the billionaire candidate. Appearing on CNN’s New Day on Thursday, Trump hit Carson for his low-key style. “He makes [Jeb] Bush look like the Energizer Bunny,” Trump said of his GOP rival.

He insisted he was only discussing Carson because “[h]e is questioning my faith. I happen to be a great believer in God and a great believer in the Bible.”

Trump continued: “But Ben Carson, you look at his faith and I think you’re not going to find so much. And you look at his views on abortion, which were horrendous.”

Trump next attacked Carson’s medical career, saying he was only an “okay doctor,” though Carson served as director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and was the first man to surgically separate conjoined twins at the head.

“He was a doctor, perhaps an okay doctor, by the way,” Trump said. “You can check that out too… He was an okay doctor… and now because he’s a doctor and he hired one nurse he’s going to end up being the president of the United States?”

New Day host Chris Cuomo appeared stunned by Trump’s line of attack.

“I don’t know about ‘okay doctor.’ You know, he was the first man to separate conjoined twins,” he responded.

Carson told The Washington Post on Thursday he is not interested in continuing the back and forth with Trump. “The media frequently wants to goad people into wars, into gladiator fights, you know,” he said. “And I’m certainly not going to get into that.”

“Everyone is going to be saying, ‘Oh there’s a big fight, everyone come watch the fight,’” he added. “But it’s just not going to be as great as they think, because I’m not going to participate.”

Carson also appeared to seek reconciliation, saying he was not trying to personally go after Trump. “I would like to say to him that the intention was not to talk to him but about what motivates me,” he said regarding his religion comment. “If he took that as a personal attack on him, I apologize, it was certainly not the intent.”

Trump has not been shy about expressing how he feels about other GOP candidates, including Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Scott Walker.

A CNN/ORC poll released Thursday finds Trump at 32 percent support among voters, followed by Carson at 19 percent and Bush at 9 percent.

  1. Oh. Wow. Evangelicals are following Trump? Evangelicals are also following Beck. Evangelicals are also following Barton. Evangelicals are also following Ronie Floyd, Beth Moore, the friggin Pope…What’s the problem here? Well, it’s a total, lack of discernment. Trump makes a majority of his money from owning casinos? I think that’s called filthy lucre. I have no use for Carson either. Oh well, his favorite book is the Bible? Yet he says he’s never repented? Well alrighty then…….

  2. Carson is starting to get into the weeds on a regular basis. He is a Christian, that hopefully helps us to predict his moral compass; but that is not a substitute for showing leadership qualities. Carson often puts me to sleep during interviews with his fuzzy thinking and low key delivery. We do not need fuzzy or low key.

Carson’s story should be taught in the inner city schools, but he is hardly a role model for the thugs, and I did not understand what he was saying during his Fergusan train interview.

I’m wondering what, besides his race does Carson bring to the corporate boards he sits on?
    Diversity, inclusion, political correctness?
Last time I checked the score card, these large corporations are not on our team.
Maybe Carsen has been bought out and he will be revealed as the antiChrist against the Conservative front runner.

Trump is growing impatient with rabbit punches from the losers and peanut gallery, but he ought to measure his responses and not get sucked into the sewer pipe.
The other candidates are clearly defining themselves as peons, and Trump can’t let their cheap shots go unanswered, but IMO this publicity doesn’t help him.
