My comments in red: Michelle Obama’s children go to the prestigious Sidwell private school in Washington, DC. At this school, there is a chef who prepares lunches for the children and staff. I would bet they are allowed cookies. We can thank Michelle Obama for passing down this totalitarian and draconian rule to schools where children detest the new school served lunches. What I decide to serve my child for lunch is my business alone, it is not the government school’s business. As for Michelle Obama, she looks like she eats way too many cookies.

As school officials attempt to get to the bottom of the issue, Leeza Pearson is upset that her child was not allowed to finish part of her lunch.
Pearson packed her 5-year-old daughter a ham and cheese sandwich, string cheese and a 4-pack of Oreos Friday. The child came back home from school with a note from her teacher which read, in part:
“Dear Parents, it is very important that all students have a nutritious lunch. This is a public school setting and all children are required to have a fruit, a vegetable and a heavy snack from home, along with a milk. If they have potatoes, the child will also need bread to go along with it. Lunchables, chips, fruit snacks, and peanut butter are not considered to be a healthy snack. This is a very important part of our program and we need everyone’s participation.”
The Oreos were still in the lunchbox when Pearson’s daughter returned from school Friday. The child said her teacher didn’t allow her to eat the cookies during lunch, because they don’t have enough nutritional value.
Questions over the note remain. The director of Children’s Academy said she’s investigating the note, adding that it should not have gone out to any parent. The director said it is not school policy to tell parents what children can or can’t eat for lunch.
A discussion will be held with the teacher Tuesday, the director said.
Pearson is concerned this points to a larger issue.
“What the school thinks is healthy for her is not what I think is healthy for her,” Pearson said. “That’s between me and her and our doctor - not the school.”
Since the school receives funding through Aurora Public Schools, the district says it also plans to look into the matter.

Ugh. I feel so sorry for this young child. What I want to take issue with is this comment in the letter: ‘If they have potatoes, the child will also need bread to go along with it.’ I know that it has been a few way too many years since I had my last nutrition class, but recommending TWO starches at one meal. Since when did this become a recommendation? I know, a lot of us eat bread with our meals, in fact I grew up on bread, meat and potatoes. But that does not exclude the fact that potatoes and bread are both starches. Starches turn in to sugar which is the reason two starches in one meal is not recommended.
Oh, well as long as Congress caves to everything that our Dictator in Chief wants, we have not choice but to either go along or ignore it at our own peril. Maybe this mother should consider homeschooling.

They’re idiots…plain and simple, simpleton idiots. I got two sandwiches, two pieces of fruit, and cookies (if mom had any) for lunch

What’s this potatoes and BREAD BS about? Where I grew up,bread being “required” if the kid has potatoes (french fries,I’m assuming) would be as wacky as requiring a kid to eat peanut butter if he has green beans. This insanity proves that this has NOTHING to do with nutrition,it’s ALL ABOUT CONTROL! The kid’s Mom should be finding out if she’s the only one to experience this problem (an argument for Discrimination could be made) or if other Moms have had it happen to them, and if there are more than one or two, they should petition the Governing Body to remove all who supported this policy (the “nutrition” requirements),and if that doesn’t correct the problem, they should let the Academy’s Board know that a lawsuit could come into play if they don’t revise their “rules”. I suspect it’s a personal issue, and the people in question were stepping outside the “Official Rules” and letting their attitudes and tempers get away from them.
