The Truth About Thomas Jefferson’s Koran

By Jim O’Neill
The Protestants alone are able to attack the Koran with success; and for them, I trust, Providence has reserved the glory of its overthrow.
George Sales (1697-1736) From the introduction to “Jefferson’s Koran
Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding.
Barack Obama
We’re going to impeach the motherf–ker.
Muslim Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib referring to President Trump
Obama is on record as stating that “Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding.”  Is that true?  Well yes, sort of.
If by “woven into the fabric of our country” you mean “following the Revolutionary War, Muslims were America’s first international enemies,” then yes, it’s true.  Muslim pirates helped to kick start the US Navy into existence.  Anchors aweigh Islam!
There was a definite downside to the United States gaining its freedom from Great Britain.  Among the thornier problems our fledgling country faced was the fact that America lost the mantle of protection offered by Great Britain’s large fleet of naval ships.  This meant that it was open season on American merchant ships in the Atlantic, and especially the Mediterranean – and Muslim pirates in the area were quick to jump on the opportunity.
For about 600 years, from the thirteenth to the seventeenth centuries, the pirates or corsairs of Barbary preyed on European commerce, taking thousands [some say over a million] of prisoners, and selling them as slaves in the mines or the galleys. European women were especially prized for their light complexions, fetching premium prices in the harems. Though prisoners could, in theory, be ransomed, the going rates for redemption were invariably high. The lives of most of the slaves, by contrast, were brutal, cruel and mercifully short.
…In a single six-month period between 1783 and 1784, the Barbary states sacked three American vessels. The crewmen were paraded down the streets of Fez and Algiers, pelted with rotten vegetables and offal, and thrown before the emperor or the pasha who reportedly told them, “I’ll make you eat stones, Christian dogs,” and then sold them to the highest bidders.
Michael B. Oren “The Middle East and the Making of the United States, 1776 to 1815
For those wishing to delve deeper into the topic I recommend Robert C. Davis’s book “Christian Slaves, Muslim Masters: White Slavery in the Mediterranean, the Barbary Coast, and Italy, 1500-1800
Interwoven into our national fabric indeed.  The great European fleets of France and Britain could shrug off the pesky corsairs, or Barbary pirates, as the Muslims were called.  Michael Oren notes that for the British and French “the pirates were little more than a nuisance, scarcely worth a broadside, much less a war.”
Such was not the case for the United States, whose merchant ships were essentially defenseless once they left America’s ports.  In 1794 George Washington authorized the building of six frigates “adequate for the protection of the commerce of the United States against Algerian corsairs.”
The U.S. Navy thus was born, a contentious but honorable birth, intended not to rule the waves but to free them.
Michael B. Oren “Power, Faith, and Fantasy
Well, sort of.  The birth of the US Navy had rather bumpy beginnings.  The US Navy celebrates October 13, 1775 as its official birthday, but that navy, the Continental Navy, active during the Revolutionary War, was nowhere to be seen soon after the war ended.  Then Washington restarted it with his six frigates, and Jefferson jumped in and…well, as I say, bumpy beginnings.
The bottom line is, we have the Muslims to thank for the birth (rebirth if you prefer) of the US Navy.  Which brings us to the topic of Jefferson’s Koran (Quran).
Recently, Rashida Tlaib, one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, chose to be sworn in on a copy of the Quran that once belonged to Thomas Jefferson.
“It’s important to me because a lot of Americans have this kind of feeling that Islam is somehow foreign to American history,” she told the Detroit Free Press. “Muslims were there at the beginning.”
“Muslims were there at the beginning.”  Yes indeed, they sure were, as we have seen.  It is worth noting that America won its first overseas land battle against a foreign enemy by defeating Muslim troops at the “Battle of Derne” (Derna) in present day Libya during the “1st Barbary War” in 1805.  The leader of the US Marine detachment involved in the battle was presented with a ceremonial Mameluke sword after the battle – replicas of this sword are worn by Marine Corps officers to this day.
Longtime Congress watchers will recall Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), America’s first Muslim member of the body, also used Jefferson’s Koran for his 2007 swearing-in. “It demonstrates that from the very beginning of our country, we had people who were visionary, who were religiously tolerant, who believed that knowledge and wisdom could be gleaned from any number of sources, including the Koran,” Ellison told the Associated Press at the time.
Yair Rosenberg “The complicated history of Thomas Jefferson’s Koran
The copy of the Koran that Jefferson owned was translated by George Sales in 1734.  You will recall from the quote of Sales that began this article that he believed that “Providence has reserved the glory of [Islam’s] overthrow” to the Protestants.  Hardly a Kumbaya sentiment of multicultural solidarity.  So why would these Congressional Muslims use a Quran that is admittedly designed to “overthrow” Islam?  In a word – ignorance.

In 1786 Thomas Jefferson, along with John Adams, visited a Muslim ambassador in London, England.  In a letter to then Secretary of Foreign Affairs, John Jay, Jefferson wrote:
We took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the Grounds of their pretentions to make war upon Nations who had done them no Injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation.
It should be noted that the United States had been paying extortion money to the Muslim pirates, who kept upping the ante (by the year 1800 these extortion payments amounted to 20% of the American government’s expenditures).
The Ambassador answered us that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.
Thomas Jefferson “American Commissioners to John Jay, March 28, 1786
As the late Christopher Hitchens wrote concerning the Muslim ambassador’s reply: “Medieval as it is, this has a modern ring to it.”  Indeed, it does, more’s the pity.
I do not know how John Adams (2nd president of the United States) felt about Islam, but I have no doubt how one of his sons, John Quincy Adams (6th president of the United States), felt.  John Quincy Adams, fervently anti-slavery, is perhaps best remembered these days for his passionate and cogent defense of a group of Africans who commandeered a Spanish slave ship, as depicted in the movie “Amistad.”  In an essay he wrote on the long series of Russo-Turkish wars (17th century to 20th century) he left no doubt about his feelings about Islam:
Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he [Mohammed] humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion.  He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind.  THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST — TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE….  Between these two religions [Christianity and Islam], thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. The war is yet flagrant….  While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men.   [The words in caps are as originally printed].
John Quincy was not one to beat around the bush…but back to Jefferson.  I do not believe that he bought a copy of the Quran in order to glean “knowledge and wisdom,” but rather to better understand America’s enemies.
Shortly after being sworn in as president (3rd president of the United States) Jefferson stopped all extortion payments to the Muslim pirates and sent US Navy warships to confront them in the Mediterranean.  Soon afterwards the United States (and Sweden) were fighting Muslims in the “1st Barbary War” (1801-1805).
In truth, the “1st Barbary War” was neither a beginning nor an end, but merely one installment in the ongoing “long war.”   Tours, Lepanto, Vienna…those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.

McRaven is No Admiral of Mine

By Jim O’Neill
Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known. Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.
Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.
William McRaven “Revoke my security clearance, too, Mr. President
It is traditional to often address former military officers, especially those of high rank, by their former grade – colonel, general, commander, admiral, etc.  But I will make an exception with William McRaven, who is not worthy of his former title of admiral in my book.
In my book McRaven is a disgrace to the uniform of the US Navy, a disgrace to my beloved SEAL Teams, and a disgrace to the US military as a whole.
McRaven is obviously quite smart, so stupidity is no excuse for his behavior.  Which leaves…I don’t know what.  Ignorance?  Delusion?  Arrogance?  Naivete?  Too much time spent among the Pentagon’s “perfumed princes?”  All the above and more?
In any event, he is not fit to shine the shoes of someone such as Admiral James “Ace” Lyons (USN Ret.), a true American patriot who has never forgotten his oath to defend the US Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
According to Mr. Guandolo — a former SWAT team leader at the FBI, counterterrorism and Muslim Brotherhood specialist and Marine platoon commander — what should be an issue was the Saudis’ targeted recruitment of Mr. Brennan to the ideology of Islam while he was serving as the CIA station chief in Riyadh. This was not just a conversion but a political act by a foreign intelligence service.
ADM James A. Lyons 2/19/13 “The Islamic Cloud Over Brennan and Hagel
Former CIA boss John Brennan’s thuggish looks and demeanor put me in mind of Hitler’s head of the “Brown Shirts,” Ernst Rohm.  Not that they are doppelgangers or anything, but I get the same creepy vibe from them both.  There is, of course, no law against giving off bad vibes, and I have no proof whatsoever that Brennan is a Muslim convert…but there is certainly a wealth of circumstantial evidence that leads me to strongly suspect that Brennan is not the pure-as-the-driven-snow American patriot that McRaven makes him out to be.
After President Trump recently revoked his security clearance Brennan tweeted that his “principles are worth far more than clearances.”  To which Benghazi hero Kris “Tanto” Paronto replied:
“My principles are greater than clearances too John, especially when you and the @CIA kool-aid drinkers punished us for not going along with the Benghazi cover-up story in order to protect you, @HillaryClinton’s & @BarackObama’s failures. You put your politics before us.”
I suppose We the People will have to wait, and wait, and wait some more before the truth finally comes out about the soft coup against President Trump involving the Steele Dossier, Fusion GPS, the FBI, DOJ, and God knows who and what else.  In the meantime, I will be casting a jaundiced eye on Brennan, Clapper, the Ohrs, the Clintons, and their ilk – call me cynical.
One thing for sure, I will not be holding any of them up as paragons of honesty, integrity, and patriotism.  Oh, and President Trump – I would waste no time in granting McRaven’s desire to have his security clearance revoked, he deserves the “honor.”

A Short History of Islam

BY JIM O’NEILL

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.George Santayana (1863-1952)

Question: What do all the following statements have in common?

Charles “The Hammer” Martel defeated the Moors as they advanced toward Paris in 732 AD.

Christian forces won a great victory over the Ottoman Navy in 1571.

The genocide of tens of millions of Hindus, mass rapes of Hindu women and the destruction of thousands of ancient Hindu/Buddhist temples and libraries by the Mughals is well documented.

Sultan Mehmed II’s army conquered and sacked (i.e. raped, pillaged, and burned) the Christian city of Constantinople (AKA, Byzantium, Istanbul) in 1453.

An army led by Polish king Jan III Sobieski defeated the invading Turkish army at the “Battle of Vienna” in 1683.

During the campaign of 1799 Napoleon sent a messenger under a flag of truce to the Mamelukes, who promptly killed the messenger and hoisted his head on a pole.

America’s first war against the Barbary Pirates lasted from 1801 to 1805, America’s 2nd Barbary War took place in 1815.

Before he gained fame in WW I, General “Black Jack” Pershing led US Army troops against bandits in Mexico and Moros in the Philippines.

Just outside of Paris, France foreign youths kidnapped two young Jewish men on separate occasions in 2006 and 2008.  Over a period of weeks both young men were tortured to death.

In 2014 it was revealed that over 1,400 girls in Rotherham, England were forced into sexual slavery by Asian men.

Recently  Boko Haram made a threat to sell 165 kidnapped Christian girls to sex traffickers.

“The New York Times” reports that “Blasts at Boston Marathon Kill at Least 3 and Injure More Than 100.”

Massive influx of immigrant refugees causes rape epidemic in Sweden.  Sweden now rape capital of Europe.

“The Washington Post” reports that a lone gunman has killed 49 people in Orlando, Florida.

Answer: All of the above underlined words can be replaced with the word “Muslim(s).”  Just saying….

All of a Sudden

“All Of A Sudden….Seven Short Years Have Passed!”

Before Obama there was virtually no outlandish presence of Islam in America.

  • All of a sudden, Islam is taught in schools. Christianity and the bible are banned in schools.
  • All of a sudden we must allow prayer rugs everywhere and allow for Islamic prayer in schools, airports and businesses.
  • All of a sudden we must stop serving pork in prisons.
  • All of a sudden we are inundated with law suits by Muslims who are offended by American culture.
  • All of a sudden Muslims are suing employers and refusing to do their jobs if they personally deem it conflicts with Sharia Law.
  • All of a sudden the Attorney General of the United States vows to prosecute anyone who engages in “anti-Muslim speech”.
  • All of a sudden, Jihadists who engage in terrorism and openly admit they acted in the name of Islam and ISIS, are emphatically declared they are NOT Islamic by our leaders and/or their actions are determined NOT to be terrorism, but other nebulous terms like ‘workplace violence.”
  • All of a sudden, it becomes Policy that Secular Middle East dictators that were benign or friendly to the West, must be replaced by Islamists and the Muslim Brotherhood.
  • All of a sudden our troops are withdrawn from Iraq and the middle east, giving rise to ISIS.
  • All of a sudden, America has reduced it’s nuclear stockpiles to 1950 levels, as Obama’s stated goal of a nuke-free America by the time he leaves office continues uninterrupted.
  • All of a sudden, a deal with Iran must be made at any cost, with a pathway to nuclear weapons and HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of dollars handed over to fund their programs.
  • All of a sudden America APOLOGIZES to Muslim states and sponsors of terror worldwide for acts of aggression, war and sabotage THEY perpetrate against our soldiers.
  • All of a sudden, the American Navy is diminished to 1917 Pre-World War I levels of only 300 ships. The Army is at pre-1940 levels. The Air Force scraps 500 planes and planned to retire the use of the A-10 Thunderbolt close air support fighter.  A further draw down of another 40,000 military personnel is in progress.
  • All of a sudden half of our aircraft carriers are recalled for maintenance by Obama rendering the Atlantic unguarded, NONE are in the Middle East.
  • All of a sudden Obama has to empty Guantanamo Bay of captured Jihadists and let them loose in Jihad-friendly Islamic states.  He demands to close the facility.
  • All of a sudden America will negotiate with terrorists and trade FIVE Taliban commanders for a deserter and Jihad sympathizer.
  • All of a sudden there is no money for American poor, disabled veterans, jobless Americans, hungry Americans, or displaced Americans but there is endless money for Obama’s “Syrian refugee” resettlement programs.
  • All of sudden there is an ammunition shortage in the USA.
  • All of a sudden, the most important thing for Obama to do after a mass shooting by two Jihadists, is disarm American Citizens.
  • All of a sudden, the President of the United States can not attend the Christian Funerals of a Supreme Court Justice and a former First Lady because of previous (seemingly unimportant) commitments.

… “By his fruits you will know him.”

All of a sudden, I am sick to my stomach

Muzzie Charged With Torching His Own Mosque. Ho Hum…Like We Need A Reason..

Man charged with setting Houston mosque fire was a devout attendee

Guess he started it on his head. Gufawww

A Houston man has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson at a mosque on Christmas Day.
A spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed that the man was arrested early Wednesday, sometime after midnight, and appeared in court 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The suspect, Gary Nathaniel Moore, 37, of Houston, appeared in court at 7 a.m., spokeswoman Nicole Strong said.
According to a charging instrument released by the Harris County District Clerk, Moore told investigators at the scene that he has attended the mosque for five years, coming five times per day to pray seven days per week.
Moore told investigators he had been at the mosque earlier on Dec. 25 to pray, and had left at about 2 p.m. to go home. Moore told investigators he was the last person to leave the mosque and saw no smoke or other signs of fire when he left. He had returned to the scene after hearing about the fire from a friend.
Though the suspect said he was a regular at the mosque, MJ Khan, president of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston, which operates the mosque, said he was unfamiliar with Moore. “We are just looking into it ourselves,” he said Wednesday morning after learning of the arrest.
“We are really very surprised and saddened by this whole thing,” said Khan.
Using surveillance video from multiple businesses nearby, investigators were able to identify Moore, according to records. A search warrant of his home was conducted, in which investigators recovered a backpack and clothing that seemingly matched that which was seen in surveillance footage, as well as one half of a two-pack of charcoal lighter fluid bottles that seemed to match another lighter fluid bottle found inside the mosque.

Trump/Putin 2016 (Sarc Warning)

I hate to say it again, but I trust Vlad the impaler more than my own C.I.C.  I remember Trump was asked about Syria, and he said he’d prefer to sit back and let Vlad handle it. Think about it. In one month Putin had the ISIS scum cutting their beards off and fleeing by the thousands crying for mommy. On the other hand in over a year under the ever watchful eye of obama they have gained more territory, men, gun, and money.

Folks these rag tag mutts started out with about 50 Toyota pickup trucks with .50 cals mounted on them. I remember then saying something was wrong with this picture. Now look at them. I know in my gut we have created these monsters.                        ~Steve~

Trump picks Putin as running mate, jokes Kasich.

Hey, could be worse. LOL

Hey, could be worse. LOL

Don’t believe everything you hear in this 2016 presidential election cycle.

Especially when it’s news about Donald Trump coming from his competition who are among the bottom-feeders in the polls.

Case in point is a phony news release this weekend from John Kasich’s campaign, stating Trump has finally decided on his running mate.

“In a bold and visionary move characteristic of everything he does, today terrific billionaire Donald Trump named Russian President Vladimir Putin as his running mate in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign,” the faux press release said. “Trump pledged that together with Putin he would ‘Make Tyranny Great Again.’”

“I think I would just get along very well with Vladimir Putin. I just think so. People say what do you mean? I just think we would,” said Trump in the fake release.

Seems about right. :)

Seems about right. 🙂

The paper, issued just days after Trump and Putin exchanged courteous remarks about each other, indicates Putin “readily accepted Trump’s offer” to be vice president, saying the businessman is “a really brilliant and talented person, without a doubt … he’s the absolute leader in the presidential race.”

The Kasich campaign also posted video of a phony news report about the running-mate announcement, containing some real quotations from Trump along with a bare-chested image of Putin.

U.S. Refuses to Bomb ISIS Targets: “Can’t Get Clearance Even With a Clear Target in Front of Us

Posted on by Mac Slavo

ISIS-drudge-tweet

By all accounts, ISIS is clearly the biggest threat to the United States, with the San Bernardino attacks just the most recent to take out Americans.

And yet, the U.S. military and President Obama refuse to bomb known ISIS targets, including advanced propaganda and digital media houses, that they admit they have thoroughly mapped out – but refuse to strike.

According to the Washington Times:

In a secret project tied to the overall U.S. campaign against the Islamic State, intelligence officials have spent months mapping out known physical locations of media safe houses where the extremist group’s operatives are compiling, editing and curating raw video and print materials into finished digital propaganda products for dissemination across the Internet.

Most of the locations are embedded in heavily residential areas in Syria, Iraq and Libya and are not being targeted by U.S. airstrikes because of Obama administration concerns about civilian casualties…

The sentiment seems mismatched, as the United States under presidents both Republican and Democrat have not balked at civilian casualties tolls, even when that figure approaches one million innocent lives. While the sentiment seems noble, it is not realistic, and is resulting in propping up the power of ISIS further.

Just a few weeks ago, WND reported on how U.S. airstrikes are so limited, that pilots can’t even get clearance to take out a clear ISIS target:

President Obama has given U.S. military pilots an impossible task: Wage a successful air war against an enemy hiding among civilians – without killing a single civilian.

Pilots who have returned from deployments say Obama refuses to permit airstrikes 75 percent of the time against the Islamic State group.

“You went 12 full months while ISIS was on the march without the U.S. using that air power and now as the pilots come back to talk to us they say three-quarters of our ordnance we can’t drop, we can’t get clearance even when we have a clear target in front of us,” Rep. Ed Royce, R-California, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told the Washington Free Beacon. “I don’t understand this strategy at all because this is what has allowed ISIS the advantage and ability to recruit.”

Instead, the American people are told to fear ISIS, but not to stop potentially dangerous or radical Islamists from entering the country; people are told that ISIS has changed everything, even as certain Western and Arab partners continue to fuel ISIS armies with weapons, cash and training.

The increasingly glossy and appealing propaganda produces by ISIS and disseminated around the world – allegedly recruiting more extremists to their cause – is perhaps too good to be true. Who is really helping ISIS to produce world-class media, and why aren’t their facilities being shutdown?

But critics, including a growing number of lawmakers on Capitol Hill and some current and former officials directly involved in the project, say the administration’s effort is badly mismanaged and underfunded, allowing the Islamic State to maintain a physical footprint of media production houses upon which creation of the terrorist group’s most influential products depends

The propaganda operation’s vastness and sophistication are considered unprecedented in Islamic terrorism… Twelve issues of the group’s official propaganda magazine Dabiq are now online in several languages, including Arabic, English, Russian, French and Turkish. The shiny content, organizational integrity and layout are more thorough and professional than those of many American newsmagazines… [and]using elaborate graphic animations, special effects, live-action speed edits and Hollywood-quality voice-overs.\

( Umm If I May , just why in the hell are these sites operational. Take them down, and take them down every day.)    Steve

[…]

“Obviously, if we know where they’re producing the propaganda, we should be doing everything we can to destroy their facilities,” said William McCants, a Brookings Institution scholar and former State Department senior adviser for countering violent extremism.

[…]

[T]he source, who added that “bombing is absolutely not the only way to take a communications product offline.”

Indeed, there is more than one way to undermine or destroy the communications and propaganda strongholds of ISIS, along with its military forces – and yet none of them are being pursued. Meanwhile, Americans are home are being killed by the monster our U.S. government created, raised, coddled and unleashed.

What about American lives that are at risk?

Unbelievable.

Things that make you go Hmm…

What Started The Arab Spring? Actually This One Woman Did.

Did you know you can trace the Arab Spring uprisings back to one Woman, and one particular incident? I did not know this. Very interesting. Probably wouldn’t have been much except we got involved and set the world on fire. Nice going Skippy.

Skippy sets the world on fire.

Skippy sets the world on fire.

‘I started the Arab Spring. Now death is everywhere, and extremism blooming’

Faida Hamdy confiscated a vegetable stall in Tunisia five years ago today. Neither she nor the rest of the world could have imagined the consequences

6:00AM GMT 17 Dec 2015

It is hardly surprising that when Faida Hamdy wonders whether she is responsible for everything that happened after her moment of fame she is overwhelmed.

Mrs Hamdy was the council inspector who, five years ago today confiscated the vegetable stall of a street vendor in her dusty town in central Tunisia.

In despair, that young man set himself on fire in a protest outside the council offices. Within weeks, he was dead, dozens of young Arab men had copied him, riots had overthrown his president, and the Arab Spring was under way.

As the world marks the anniversary, Syria and Iraq are in flames, Libya has broken down, and the twin evils of militant terror and repression stalk the region.

“Sometimes I wish I’d never done it,” Mrs Hamdy told The Telegraph, in her only interview to mark the occasion.

Hers is a voice that has been rarely heard: the family of the young man, Mohammed Bouazizi, became unwilling celebrities in the weeks after his lingering death, but a nervous regime arrested Mrs Hamdy when the protests began.

By the time she was acquitted of all charges and released, President Zine el-Abedine Ben Ali had fallen, and media attention was focused on Egypt, Libya and Syria.

“I feel responsible for everything,” she went on. Her voice was shaky as she spoke of the traumatic consequences, five years that have transformed the Middle East but seemingly changed very little in poor, provincial towns like Sidi Bouzeid.

“Sometimes, I blame myself and say it is all because of me. I made history since I was the one who was there and my action contributed to it but look at us now. Meanwhile, Tunisians are suffering as always.”

Mohammed Bouazizi’s death triggered some deep nerve in the Arab world. Many myths were told about his own story and that of Mrs Hamdy, as there were about the nature of subsequent uprisings and downfalls, but there remains a basic truth underlying his experience and that of many others.

Corruption, stifling bureaucracy, and repressive police states were holding back a largely youthful population across the region, and their victims had little way to make their frustrations felt other than extreme actions.

Subsequent studies found that self-immolation had already become a common act in Tunisia, accounting already for 15 per cent of all burns cases in Tunis hospitals. Within six months, more than 100 Tunisians had followed suit, and scores more around the Arab world, from Morocco to Saudi Arabia and Iraq, had also set themselves on fire.

Still, not many observers could have imagined the chaos that would ensue, even when Mr Ben Ali gave way to weeks of protest and boarded a plane for Saudi Arabia with his wife and a large chunk of the country’s gold reserves.

Next Hosni Mubarak of Egypt went, after 18 days of telegenic demonstrations in Cairo’s Tahrir Square. Then Col Muammar Gaddafi was forced out, after protests turned into civil war and then international war, with the West’s air forces joining in.

By the time he was bayoneted and shot in October 2011, Syria was in flames, and the West was starting to vacillate about its role, with effects that can still be seen today. Libya, Syria and much of Iraq remain failed states. Egypt is on the brink.

In the process a social uprising had turned into a conflict between Islamism, part peaceful, part violent, and secular governments and politicians; and then between religious sects, as Sunni and Shia turned on each other.

Despite Mrs Hamdy’s despair at the poverty that remains in Tunisia, the country is still seen as the sole success. It has had two general elections in the years since, with a moderate Islamist party, Ennahda, winning the first, before stepping into opposition in the face of an alliance between secular parties that included members of the former regime last year.

73 and I’m Tired

This should be required reading for every man, woman and child in the UK , in the U.S.A, Canada , Australia and New Zealand

By   Robert A. Hall

I’m 73

Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I’ve worked, hard,  since I was 18.   Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven’t called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there’s no retirement in sight, and I’m tired.

Very tired.

I’m tired   of being told That I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I’m tired   of being told That Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honor”; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers;” of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery;” of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Sharia law tells them to.

I’m tired   of being told that, out of “tolerance for other cultures,” we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund Mosques and mandrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America and Canada , while no American nor Canadian group is allowed to fund a church, Synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance..

I’m tired   of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I’m tired   of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up Their noses while they tried to fight it off?

I’m tired   of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I’m real tired   of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the Government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 73.. Because, mostly, I’m not going to have

to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughters and grandson. (My great grandchildren too……j)

Robert A. Hall is a Marine Vietnam veteran who served Five terms in the Massachusetts State Senate.

There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

This is your chance to make a difference.

“I’m 73 and I’m tired.”

I passed it on, will you!!
