Blood pressure targets get TRASHED in shocking new report

You read it here first in the Daily Dose: The new blood pressure targets pushed on the masses by the drug-shilling stooges of the American Heart Association will HURT and maybe even KILL innocent Americans.

Now, at least one major mainstream medical organization agrees!

The American College of Physicians has just cranked out a blistering statement slamming both the AHA and American College of Cardiology for their thickheaded new guidelines.

These guidelines are a flat-out assault on sanity, dropping the definition of “hypertension” down from 140/90 to 130/80 mm Hg.

That 10-point switch means more than 30 million Americans went from “normal” BP to “dangerously high” BP practically overnight. And many of them — 4.2 million new patients, to be exact — will be told by their docs that they need meds.

Talk about a wet kiss for the drug industry!

That has members of the ACP’s Clinical Guidelines Committee absolutely livid.

They fired off an editorial in the Annals of Internal Medicinepractically declaring war on these nonsensical guidelines.

“Are the harms, costs, and complexity of care associated with this new target justified by the presumed benefits of labeling nearly half the U.S. population as unwell and subjecting them to treatment?” they wrote. “We think not and believe that many primary care providers and patients would agree.”

You’re darned right they’d agree.

Any doc who’s been around the block a few times knows the dirty secret of BP meds: They hurt far more patients than they help.

And that’s especially true for older folks.

Instead of cutting the guidelines, many top scientists think that we should be RAISING them and pushing for FEWER older patients on the meds.

That’s what the ACP itself did last year.

It upped its guidelines to 150 in folks ages 60 and older, and it’s hardly alone in blasting the new guidelines.

Another editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine says that the guidelines are not only set too low, but they’re also bat-poop crazy in at least one other way: They’re trying to push a one-size-fits-all formula on the masses.

A 30-year-old and an 80-year-old now have the same exact goal, something the editorial notes is “virtually impossible” for the folks on the older side of the coin.

It’s always good to see the time-tested wisdom of the Daily Dosebacked by a major group such as this one. But let’s face it: While they’re arguing with each other, docs are already busily pushing meds onto millions of patients.

If your doc is one of them, point out these new reports and see if you can talk him out of it.

If you’re a little on the bigger side, you’ll make a better case for yourself if you drop a few pounds — which will bring BP down with it — so you can show the doc that you can take care of business on your own.

New BP guidelines are a gift to Big Pharma

Mainstream health authorities throw the word “evidence” around so much you’d think they were auditioning for a Perry Mason reboot.

But when it comes to recognizing ACTUAL evidence, these clowns are more on par with The Keystone Cops!

The latest bit of blundering — being cooked up RIGHT NOW — comes in the form of a new set of guidelines for blood pressure targets.

They’re not going to be announced, officially, until next month’s American Heart Association meeting in Anaheim.

But the inside word is that authorities have already signed and sealed the deal — and they’re going to push docs to aim for dramatically lower blood pressure levels across the board.

They’re taking the current 140/90 target — already impossible to meet for most older Americans — and tossing it right out the window.

Now, they want everyone to have a blood pressure level of 130/80. EVERYONE… even you!

If you’re a little older, you know what that means.

There’s not a chance in heck you can hit that mark on your own — because BP rises with age, and arteries naturally get a little stiffer.

All these guidelines will really do is guarantee a windfall for drug makers as older folks are practically forced to choke back one… two… maybe even three meds or more just to hit this paper target.

They claim that the infamous SPRINT trial shows that dropping those levels down will cut the risk of heart attack and stroke.

That might even be true.

But gobbling all those meds will increase OTHER risks, including some that can turn an aging senior’s life upside down.

These drugs can give you memory loss so severe that your own doc will think you’re slipping over the edge.

But the biggest risk is in something far more immediate and serious.

Drugs that drop blood pressure can also cause YOU to drop, increasing the risk of serious falls — including the kind that’ll split your head open or crack a bone, leading to an injury that’ll put you in a wheelchair, the old folks’ home, or even the morgue.

Let me give you the real deal on blood pressure: There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all formula. What you have to watch out for isn’t just rising a little above some ever-changing target… but BP levels that soar SUDDENLY for NO apparent reason and STAY high.

If that happens, you STILL won’t find the answer in mind-scrambling, dizzying BP meds.

It’s getting yourself hooked up with a doc who has the smarts to figure out WHY your blood pressure is on the rise… and then get to work on FIXING that cause.

I recommend an experienced naturopathic medical doctor.

I’ll have a simpler, better, safer, and more delicious way to beat back heart risk coming up later today.

Lower blood pressure WON’T stop this condition

It’s a moment with more suspense than the climax of the latest Hollywood thriller.

You’re on the edge of your seat… but you’re not in the movie theater.

You’re at your doctor’s office!

It’s those tense, quiet moments when he takes your blood pressure – but even though you’re holding your breath, there’s no mystery ending here. You know how it’ll unfold.

You’re going to get a lecture about all the reasons you need to keep your BP as low as a limbo dancer.

Well, friend, it’s time for a new script, especially if your doc is the kind to yammer on about what they call “aggressive targets.”

That’s the wacked-out notion that drugging seniors until their systolic (“top number”) BP levels drop below 120 will practically give them superhuman strength.

Docs claim those low levels won’t just protect your heart, they’ll also keep you stronger than a moose and steadier than The Duke. They say that if you want to keep your physical function in tip-top shape, you’ll need BP levels that sink to rock bottom.

But new research proves it’s a pound of baloney.

Over three years, seniors suffering from declining physical function who hit those targets saw zero improvements on some of the most basic tests of what you need to get through everyday life.

That included tests that measured gait and walking speed along with the ability to handle a flight of stairs.

But the folks who needed help the most… the ones spiraling into the decline of aging… got NO BENEFIT at all even when they hit those “aggressive” targets.

Folks who were already doing well by those measures saw a tiny boost, but it was so small the researchers admitted it was “statistically insignificant.”

Now, even if you print out this article and bring it to your doc… even if you bring the darned study itself… he’ll claim those low targets will still cut your heart risk.

Maybe it will – but that’s not the only thing that could happen.

The biggest study to test the 120-target found that while it DID cut heart risk, it also took an average of THREE medications for seniors to hit that level.

That DOUBLED the risk of deadly side effects including kidney failure, dangerously low blood pressure, and screwy imbalances of potassium and sodium in the blood.

Bottom line here is that even some of the biggest mainstream groups have resisted lowering those BP targets – and some have actually RAISED them, finally admitting that seniors with slight elevations in blood pressure SHOULDN’T be drugged.

The only one who benefits from those low targets? Big Pharma, of course… because when you need to take three drugs to hit those goals, that’s triple the profits for them.

Pocket the savings for yourself for a change!

Easing the pressure,
