Microsoft’s Commitment to Data Privacy Questioned

My Comments:  This is only the tip of the iceberg with Gates, he’s one of the worst, and he has his hands in everything.  Privacy only exists for commie Gates.

REPOSTED FROM EDUCATION WEEK

Education Week

After years of avoiding the public beatings that other technology companies have endured over the ways their educational products may threaten student privacy, Microsoft Corp. is suddenly taking heat.

At issue is the company’s newly unveiled operating system, Windows 10. Privacy experts and media outlets alike have raised the alarm over what they see as overly aggressive data collection.

One big example: Windows 10 appears to collect extensive data about the Web addresses that users visit, then sends that information back to the company’s servers for storage. In one test conducted by a computer engineer at the request of Education Week, an individual student’s login and password for a popular online educational service were among the data sent back to Microsoft.

Company officials say fears over such practices are overblown. For years, Microsoft has boasted publicly of its commitment to strong data safeguards, presenting it as a core piece of its brand. The company is also an original signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge, a voluntary commitment by industry groups to abide by privacy-protection best practices.

But chatter over Windows 10 has ballooned to such a degree that Terry Myerson, the executive in charge of the company’s Windows and devices group, felt compelled to write a blog post this month attempting to clarify what information the system is collecting, and what it is not.

“Trust is a core pillar of [the company’s vision], and we know we have to earn it,” Myerson wrote. “I assure you no other company is more committed, transparent, and listening harder to customers on this important topic than we are.”

For school officials to whom Microsoft 10 is being marketed, the trend of online education service providers seeking to collect ever more information can make life difficult, said Robert Moore, an ed-tech consultant who leads privacy initiatives for the Consortium for School Networking, a professional association for school technology officials.

That difficulty exists even when a company’s goal is simply to improve its product and better personalize its services, Moore said.

“The intent may be good, but are there ancillary practices that go along with it?” he said. “It comes back to understanding what they’re collecting, what they’re doing with it, and what you as a school district can control.”

Testing Privacy Settings

Lakewood, Fla.-based parent and computer engineer Tony Porterfield has made a habit of testing the privacy and security practices of the technology services his children use in school.

In 2013, Porterfield made waves when The New York Times published a story based on his critique of the security practices of the popular online learning platforms Edmodo and Schoology. In 2014 and earlier this year, similar stories were published based on his analyses of a behavioral management tool known as ClassDojo, and a reading assessment site known as Raz-Kids.com.

At the request of Education Week, Porterfield agreed to test Microsoft 10 this month. He upgraded a personal computer to the new operating system, elected to use the system’s default or “express” privacy settings, and accessed the Internet using the company’s new browser, known as Edge.

Porterfield then tracked what information was being automatically sent back to Microsoft servers.

When he accessed an educational website his child uses regularly for school, Porterfield found that his child’s username and password were included in the information being sent to Microsoft servers.

“Clearly, Microsoft is not intending to collect my kid’s username and password for this ed-tech app,” Porterfield said. “But they’re catching stuff they ought not to be getting. The real threat I see is breaches. We see that every day.”

A Microsoft spokeswoman said it was unclear what led to the child’s username and password to be sent and stored, but would seek to determine the cause.

Consumer advocates have cited other concerns, too. They say the system will allow Microsoft to collect and share personal information about users’ calendars, contracts, and appointments. Geo-tagged voice recordings captured by the system’s Siri-like virtual assistant, known as Cortana, are also sent back to Microsoft servers.

And some have complained that Microsoft’s “Windows Update Delivery Optimization” service essentially allows users to borrow bandwidth from other users they don’t know when updating their apps or PCs.

Taking all the steps necessary to disable those information-sharing features can lead users through a complicated maze of a dozen screens or more.

And even after those functions are disabled, Microsoft will collect other data, beginning when users open the start menu and begin typing, noted an article published by CNN Money.

The Microsoft spokeswoman acknowledged that Cortana does collect voice and location information, but said this practice is prominently disclosed when users decide to turn on the feature.

With the Windows EDU edition that would be used by schools, the default setting allows for sharing of bandwidth only within the school’s internal local area network, the spokeswoman said.

And “the average user” will not need to access more than a dozen screens to choose privacy settings, she maintained.

More Confusion Ahead

Microsoft officials say the company is collecting the information only so that user experiences are enhanced, and not to target advertising at them. They stress that the company is not scanning the content of users’ email messages and files.

Critiques centered around both of those practices have been leveled at other tech providers, including one of Microsoft’s main competitors. Last April, Google announced that it had halted the practice of scanning student Gmail accounts for any potential advertising purposes.

“We think the telemetry data in question [with Windows 10] is entirely different,” the spokeswoman said. “We are not using this data for ad-related purposes, as other educational services conceded they were.”

Other, nonpersonal information that Microsoft collects is designed to ensure the reliability of applications on the operating system and to correct flaws that would produce crashes, Myerson argued in his October blog post.

Managing Risk

Information on the preferences of Windows 10 users, meanwhile, is collected to create a “personalized Windows experience,” Myerson wrote. Examples could include “remembering the common words you type in text-messaging conversations” or knowing your favorite sports teams.

The company declined to provide details on how widely Microsoft 10 has been adopted by K-12 schools.

Moore, the privacy consultant, said the messy privacy issues surrounding ed-tech products are only likely to get messier, leaving schools in a bind.

The first action school officials should take when they become aware of such concerns, Moore suggested, is “go directly to the source.” That means reviewing a company’s written privacy policy. If that is unclear—as many privacy policies are—make a direct contact with company officials and ask them what information is being collected, how it will be used, and what options users have to disable specific features, Moore said.

But even then, he said, it’s often a question of risk management for schools.

“You can be a smart consumer, but the reality is that it’s easy to get confused, even for those who are very savvy on these issues,” Moore said. “At some point, it comes down to your gut sense that a particular website or application has high value, so you want [schools] to use it, or it’s not that valuable, so maybe they should find something else.”

Look Who Just Pledged $32 Billion To Promote Islam And Sharia Law In America

My Comments:  What this article does not tell you is that Alwaweed bil Talal is also invested in Fox News and Wall Street Journal with Council on Foreign Relations member, Richard Murdoch.  He certainly affects what is shown on Fox and printed in the WSJ.

By Randy DeSoto for WESTERN JOURNALISM CENTER

Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a senior member of the Saudi royal family, announced that he will be giving away his entire $32 billion fortune to charity–but his past statements and commitment to promote Islam in the United States have raised red flags for some.
Alwaleed Philanthropies’ statement regarding the prince’s intentions indicates his donation would “help build bridges to foster cultural understanding.”
“Philanthropy is a personal responsibility, which I embarked upon more than three decades ago and is an intrinsic part of my Islamic faith. With this pledge, I am honoring my life-long commitment to what matters most – helping to build a more peaceful, equitable and sustainable world for generations to come,” says Prince Alwaleed.
Alwaleed is CEO of the Saudi investment conglomerate Kingdom Holding Company and has large stakes in Citigroup, Apple, Twitter, General Motors, 21st Century Fox, Euro Disney, and other companies, according to the Huffington Post. He has been called Saudi Arabia’s Warren Buffet.
Investor’s Business Daily notes that Alwaleed has extensive ties to Muslim Brotherhood leaders. “For example, he tapped ‘tele-Islamist’ Tariq Al-Suwaidan, widely reported to be a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Kuwait, as the channel director of his Islamic religious TV outlet Al Risala.”

The network’s “Supreme Advisory Committee” has included Abdullah Omar Naseef, whom ex-federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy says is “a major Muslim Brotherhood figure” who has helped raise funds for al-Qaida.”

In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, Alwaleed gave a check for $10 million to the Twin Towers Fund to aid victims of the terrorist attacks. However, after making the donation, he also released a statement, CNN reports, which called on the United States to “re-examine its policies in the Middle East and adopt a more balanced stand toward the Palestinian cause.”
“While the U.N. passed clear resolutions…calling for the Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank and Gaza Strip decades ago, our Palestinian brethren continue to be slaughtered at the hands of Israelis while the world turns the other cheek,” the statement said.

Then New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani directed the check be returned. “To suggest that there’s a justification for [the terrorist attacks] only invites this happening in the future,” he said. “It is highly irresponsible and very, very dangerous…So I think not only are those statements wrong, they’re part of the problem,” the former mayor added.
According to Investor’s Business Daily, in 2002, Alwaleed “gave $500,000 to the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, which federal authorities have linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.”
In 2005, the prince contributed $40 million to expand Islamic studies in the United States. Twenty million dollars went to Harvard to create a campus-wide Shariah law studies program, while another $20 million was pumped into Georgetown University for a “Muslim-Christian understanding” program.
In his statement released earlier this week, Alwaleed indicates that he plans to model his philanthropic work after the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The money will go towards “supporting needy communities, through health promotion, eradication of diseases, provision of electric power to remote villages and hamlets, building orphanages and schools, and much more, as well as providing disaster relief and empowering women, youth and poverty alleviation.”
Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, commented: “Prince Alwaleed’s generous commitment promises to significantly extend the great work that his foundation is already doing. His gift is an inspiration to all of us working in philanthropy around the world.”
Anti-Islam activist Pamela Geller sees Alwaleed’s generosity as a Trojan Horse, believing the money will primarily go towards what she calls the “Islamization of America.”

The Saudis have spent billions already: 80% of the mosques [built] in America are Saudi funded. Islamic groups working to impose the sharia are largely funded by the Saudis.

“We can look forward to 32 billion more of the kingdom’s brand of Islam, while censoring criticism of Islam,” writes Geller.

Have the CFR and Federal Reserve Infiltrated Your Schools?

Your child has the right to an education without federal government interference. It’s the law.

We’ve seen how unelected regional boards are partnering with global NGOs to impose their agenda upon our towns and cities.

The same thing has been going on with education for a very long time… teachers are micro-managed and told what and how they can teach, regularly. Academic freedom NO LONGER EXISTS.

In the past we’ve seen how agents of the World Bank have blatantly promoted the UN’s IB program. Here is the propaganda piece that triggered that rebuttal, printed under the Union Leader’s “Local Voices” section. Local? Hardly.

freedom

We have seen social studies training workshops that seek to make teachers into “agents of change for social justice” instead of agents who enable learning.

In addition to the World Bank and the United Nations, are billionaire players like George Soros and Bill Gates who seek political or monetary gains from their involvement in education. Other troublesome groups such as the Council on Foreign Relations and the Federal Reserve have now been allowed to contribute their input as well.

And we know this because after we were first alerted to the activities of the Federal Reserve in this 2012 article from Zero Hedge, in addition to their presence at teacher workshops, we see that the Fed has set up a whole website dedicated to the spreading of propaganda regarding their legality and constitutionality.

The Council on Foreign Relations, also presenting to teachers at recent social studies workshops, announced a summer camp for students in 2012. (What does that remind you of?)

When will parents wake up to the rude fact that globalists and corporate interests, both of these groups as political opportunists, are using all of our children as political mules to spread a philosophical agenda that is antithetical to our constitutional republic?

Who is Grover Norquist? Part 1

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” Marcus Cicero

I recently finished Jack Abramoff’s book, Capitol Punishment. Link Abramoff is a long time member of the secretive Council for National Policy (CNP) which I’ve often mentioned in previous articles. Link I found it interesting that throughout the book, Jack’s friends and co-workers were also CNP members; mentioned were Ralph Reed, Howard Phillips, Dick Armey, Tom DeLay, and Grover Norquist. According to an investigative report from the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on the Jack Abramoff scandal, released in June 2006, Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) served as a “conduit” for funds that flowed from Abramoff’s clients to finance grass-roots lobbying campaigns. Records show that donations from the Choctaw and Kickapoo tribes to ATR were coordinated in part by Abramoff, and in some cases preceded meetings between the tribes and the White House. Abramoff and Norquist are long time friends and in their youth they were partners in College Republicans.

Conservatives Gather For Annual CPAC Convention

At the end of the book, Abramoff states, “In my view, only the creation of a new organization dedicated to a serious agenda of reform can push the legislative changes which must be enacted to clean up our system. The organization should be modeled like the effective and powerful group Grover built, Americans for Tax Reform, and hold Congressional feet to the fire in the same forceful way ATR does it.”

I read Abramoff’s final statement and I wanted to scream! Obviously he learned nothing during his stint in prison! Remember the words of Clinton’s mentor, Carroll Quigley, professor of history at Georgetown University and author of the 1966 book, Tragedy and Hope. “The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can ‘throw the rascals out’ at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies.”

Abramoff never mentioned anything in his book about Norquist’s membership in either the Council for National Policy nor the Council on Foreign Relations. Link In Carroll Quigley’s Tragedy and Hope, he said this about the CFR, “The Council on Foreign Relations is the American branch of a society which originated in England … [and] … believes national boundaries should be obliterated and one-world rule established.”

The Real Grover Norquist

Grover Glenn Norquist (born October 19, 1956) is an American lobbyist, claims to be a conservative activist, and is founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform. He grew up in Weston, Massachusetts and graduated in 1974 from Harvard where he obtained both a B.A. and an M.B.A.

Norquist is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association and in 2010, he joined the advisory board of GOProud, an organization of conservative gay Republicans. He is also on the boards of the Hispanic Leadership Fund, the Indian-American Republican Caucus, and ParentalRights.org, an organization that wishes to add a Parental Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution. The dangers of trying to add an amendment to our Constitution today have been written about many times. With today’s political corruption, adding an amendment could easily lead to a Constitutional Convention and a new socialist/communist constitution. Link  Link.

Grover was the economist and chief speechwriter for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 1983-1984. Erica Carle wrote a three part article entitled, “Who is in Charge of the New World Order,” that exposes the Chamber’s one-world-order agenda.

Norquist was Executive Director for the National Taxpayers’ Union (NTU) from 1978 to 1982, the same years we fought the first accelerated drive for a Constitutional Convention under the guise of a Balanced Budget Amendment. James Dale Davidson founded the NTU in 1969 and was the major force for a Con-Con especially during the years Norquist was Executive Director. The ruse back then was a Balanced Budget Amendment, the same excuse they’re using today. Link

Grover was formerly a federally registered lobbyist for Microsoft. The CEO of Microsoft is Bill Gates, who recently donated $1 billion to the United Nations for its population control agenda. See also, Bill Gates And Neo-Eugenics: Vaccines To Reduce Population | Rockefeller Foundation.

The ATR founder also supports Obama’s amnesty for illegal aliens and has been a facilitator of Islamist infiltration of the right. Even fellow CNP member Joe Farah of World Net Daily wants to dump Grover from the so-called “Conservative Movement.” Norquist is staunchly against Arizona’s immigration law and totally supports the 13 story Ground Zero Mosque, and  Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf.

American Legislative Exchange Council

ATR is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). ALEC is a member of the Council for National Policy and was founded by Paul Weyrich, the former grand poobah of the CNP. ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It’s not just a lobby or front group, ALEC is one of the most powerful unelected councils in the country. Corporations hand to state legislators their “wish lists” of legislation to benefit their bottom lines. The membership of ALEC is 98% corporate and the corporate membership is the one that funds almost all of ALEC’s operations. They have bought their way into the process by which corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. ALEC’s legislative leaders are responsible for getting the bills introduced and passed. They introduce the bills in their statehouses as their own brilliant ideas. They never disclose that corporations wrote and vetted these bills along with politicians behind closed doors at ALEC meetings. So, everyone who is a member of ALEC is influencing not only state bills, but likely most federal bills as well, written by corporations with vested interests…along with lobbyists like Grover. ALEC is also a long time supporter of a Constitutional Convention. More on ALEC in a future article.

Choice, Vouchers and Charter Schools

In 1995, Norquist was the keynote speaker at the National Conference on School Choice, which is sponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA). The NCPA is a free market think tank primarily funded by private foundations established by wealthy neo-conservative business families and billionaires, including Charles and David Koch. I wrote about David Koch in The Tea Parties, Part One. Koch is a member of the globalist new age Aspen Institute formerly headed by socialist UN member Maurice Strong, who wrote UN Agenda 21. Link How typical of Council for National Policy members like Norquist to argue for the communist School Choice.

Other Conference speakers included Paul Hill of the Rand Corporation.   RAND developed the mind control Delphi method in the 1950s for the U.S. Department of Defense. It was originally intended for use as a psychological weapon during the cold war. Also present was Peter Flanigan who was assistant to the president of the United States under Nixon and founded the Center for Education Innovation at the Manhattan Institute. The Manhattan Institute was founded in 1978 by none other than former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, William Casey.

A number of Council for National Policy members are promoting School Choice, Vouchers, and Charter Schools including the Family Research Council, Eagle Forum, James Dobson formerly with Focus on the Family, and The Heritage Foundation.

Heritage was founded in 1973 by three CNP members, grand poobah Paul Weyrich, Edwin Fuelner and Joseph Coors. Richard Mellon Scaife, who funds both sides of the aisle was a major early contributor and has given a total of $19.6 million to Heritage. Scaife initially funded Heritage groundbreaking efforts to the tune of $900,000, and he currently serves as vice-chairman of the Heritage Foundation board of trustees. Link Scaife also funds Planned Parenthood and had a full page ad in the WSJ on April 4, 2011, stating, “Why Conservatives Should Oppose Efforts to Defund Planned Parenthood.”

Grover’s relationship with Heritage Foundation, started in 1994 when he worked with Newt Gingrich and the Heritage Foundation to draft the Contract with America. See Chey Simonton’s, The Rockefeller/Heritage Connection for the truth about Heritage Foundation. Link Heritage is presently promoting Grover’s new book, Debacle: Obama’s War on Jobs and Growth and What We Can Do Now to Regain Our Future. Link

Charlotte Iserbyt, former Senior Policy Advisor in the U.S. Department of Education blew the whistle in the 80s on government activities withheld from the public. Here’s what she said about School Choice, “School Choice is the Trojan Horse to bring our country down. The tragedy of the matter is that many of our own people are involved in the demise of our Constitutional system of government and are willing to merge with Russia (the old Soviet Union). Charter schools are ungraded, continuous progress, mastery learning, come under the Effective School Research label, are international, involved with multinationals, and use the Skinner method.” Link Link Another wonderful article by Jed Brown that exposes the communist rot of School Choice is The Dirty Little Secret of School Choice and Charter Schools.

In a 1995 letter from Charlotte Iserbyt to Phyllis Schlafly, Charlotte exposes choice, vouchers, and Charter schools. Charlotte has the documented proof that Outcome Based Education (OBE) is communist and based on the 1933 Eight-Year Study drawn up by Progressive Education Association types (PEA being a communist front). These PEA members travelled back and forth to the Soviet Union in the thirties.

Charlotte also included the draft of a Charter School Initiative in Washington state by Jim Spady, a friend of new age futurist, Barbara Marx Hubbard, recommending a complete move from representative government to participatory government, using councils and unelected persons!  She attached copies of letters from those who supported Spady’s initiative along with letters from luminaries who supported this communist change to American education. They include former Reagan education czar, William Bennett, Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander, and of course, Grover Norquist. I urge you to thoroughly read and research the people mentioned in Charlotte’s letter. It is essential people understand that Phyllis never responded to Iserbyt’s letter, and that they had worked closely together on education for many years with Charlotte providing Schlafly with most of her information for “Child Abuse in the Classroom.” By all means purchase The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America on Amazon.

In Part 2, we’ll discuss Grover’s influence with former President George W. Bush and how he ushered silver-tongued jihadists into the Oval Office of our President after the worst attack ever on American soil.
