Jack Phillips’ Masterpiece Cakeshop Sees 3 Times More Customers Since Supreme Court Victory

Jack Phillips told The Christian Post on Thursday that his bakery, Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado, has seen three times more customers since his Supreme Court victory.
“We have had so many people coming by to support us as the case has gone on, and there has been an outpouring of love and support since the decision came down. The state’s targeting of my beliefs cost me 40 percent of my business and forced me from 10 employees down to four. But we’re so happy to be busy doing what we do best at our shop,” the Christian baker told CP in an email.
“We’re also eager to start designing custom wedding cakes again,” Phillips added.
“A cake is a canvas, and I’m really looking forward to creating beautiful art that celebrates such a special day.
Close to 400 supporters lined up at Masterpiece Cakeshop to celebrate his Supreme Court victory earlier this month, according to Alliance Defending Freedom, whose lawyers defended him. Cookies were offered to the LGBT activists who came out to protest.
As for the response from the community, he said that even though one can never get used to death threats, for the most part people have been supportive and understanding of his position.
“Since we won, we’ve seen far more support than negativity. Even people who don’t believe what I do about marriage, including many who identify as LGBT, have been so encouraging. Tolerance is a two-way street. If we want freedom for ourselves, we have to extend it to those with whom we disagree. Most people get that,” Phillips told CP.
“While we’ve seen much support, it hasn’t all been positive. Throughout the case, I received a lot of harassment, profanity-laced phone calls, and even some death threats. The threats got so bad at one point that my wife was afraid to set foot inside our own shop,” he continued.
“Even after we won the case, a group of people showed up at my shop to protest. I offered them cookies and told them to stop by anytime.”
The baker explained: “Certainly, you never get used to hostility, misrepresentation, or death threats. We’ve had to deal with our share of hatred directed at us. But most people in our community and our customers know that we serve everyone — we just don’t celebrate every event or express every message.”
ADF published a YouTube video published last week that shows long lines of people, customers and supporters congratulating Phillips at his shop in Colorado, ordering and enjoying food items, and speaking out for free speech.
A lot of people are coming out to show their support and encourage us. People have been praying across the country and around the world, it is just phenomenal,” Phillips says in the video. “Our God is so good.”Speaking of all the support he has been receiving, the baker added: “On a day like this, I am feeling overwhelmed.”
Many of the people in the video are seen and heard chanting slogans such as “Jack is back” and “Love free speech!”
Still, a dozen or so protesters showed up with LGBT flags, to whom Phillips offered free cookies on a tray.
“The protesters politely (and some not-so-politely) declined the cookies,” ADF reported.
The Supreme Court decision from June 4 overturned an earlier move by a lower court in Colorado that found Phillips guilty of violating anti-discrimination laws by refusing to bake a custom cake to celebrate the wedding of Dave Mullins and Charlie Craig in 2012 when same-sex marriage was illegal in Colorado.
As Phillips has explained, he serves everyone in his cakeshop, including gay customers, but cannot create pro same-sex marriage messages, as it goes against his religious beliefs that marriage is solely a union between one man and one woman.
The Supreme Court found that Colorado had violated the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment when it penalized Phillips, by displaying hostility toward his beliefs.
ADF attorney Kristen Waggoner, who defended Phillips in the case, said at the time that “government hostility toward people of faith has no place in our society.”
“The court was right to condemn that,” she said. “Tolerance and respect for good-faith differences of opinion are essential in a society like ours. This decision makes clear that the government must respect Jack’s beliefs about marriage.”
In an interview a day later on the “Today” show, Phillips said: “I don’t discriminate against anybody.”
“It’s just that I don’t create cakes for every occasion that people ask me to create … a wedding is just an inherently religious event and the cake is definitely a specific message that goes with that,” he added.

Most millennials still mooch from parents for gas money, rent

Most millennials still mooch from parents for gas money, rent

A majority of millennials get by with a little help from their ’rents.

More than half (53 percent) of American millennials have received financial assistance from their parents, guardians or family members on expenses like a cellphone (41 percent), rent (40 percent), gas and groceries (32 percent) and health insurance (32 percent) since turning 21, according to the new Country Financial Security Index. (The report defined millennials as those ages 21 to 37.)
About a third (37 percent) said they get cash assistance monthly, while nearly 6 in 10 (59 percent) said they receive it a couple of times a year. And 35 percent of millennials said they were still living with their parents.
“Young people are graduating with a debt load that generations before them just didn’t have — that’s one big issue,” Doyle Williams, an executive vice president at Country Financial, told Moneyish. “And then you also have … kind of the middle of that millennial generation, (which is) still probably dealing with the aftereffects of the Great Recession.”
The median student debt load is $41,200, according to a 2017 report from the National Association of Realtors and the nonprofit American Student Assistance — outstripping their median annual income of $38,800.
Millennials are unique in regarding their parents as friends, Williams added. “(In) generations before … you respected Mom and Dad, but you just never referred to them as your friend,” he said. “For the first time, we’re seeing something different.” (More than half of millennials do indeed call one of their parents their best friend, according to Fusion’s 2015 Massive Millennial Poll.)
The Country Financial report also captured how respondents perceived adulting: 23 percent believed adulthood started at the legal age of 18 and 19 percent thought it began at 21. But nearly 2 in 5 (38 percent) still didn’t think they should be totally financially independent until at least age 25.
Colleen W., a 29-year-old freelance copywriter, left her job at a Fortune 500 company and moved back in with her parents in Ohio in October. She orchestrated the move to cut costs and start her own business teaching small-business owners copywriting and marketing; pay off debt ($70,000 in student loans, plus some credit card debt); and save up for European travel in the fall, she said.
While her parents handle the cooking, pay for her cellphone and cover her auto insurance, Colleen said, she also pays $200 a month toward rent and groceries and helps out around the house by taking care of the two family dogs and “cleaning here and there.”
Her father, who used to work in the steel industry, currently drives for Uber; her mother is a furniture saleswoman. “It’s a struggle for all of us,” Colleen said. “Honestly, me moving in with them is kind of maybe helping their finances a little bit, because I’m paying them rent now.”
But since moving back in with her folks, she added, “I’ve definitely made progress with my financial goals.” While she used to spend around $4,000 a month living in Los Angeles, she said, she now spends less than $1,500.
“I really value my independence,” she said, “but sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.”
Aulani, a 22-year-old recent college grad working in public relations in San Diego — the ninth-most expensive rental market in March, by one estimate — says she’s “in the process of trying to establish (her) financial stability.” In the lead-up to that, however, her mom “would help with little things” while Aulani, who asked that Moneyish withhold her last name, worked a part-time cashier job at a burger joint throughout college. (She’ll start making payments on her $25,000 student loan debt next month.)
“It’s not that I want to be dependent on my parents’ income,” Aulani said. “Situationally, it just happens that way sometimes.” Her mom, a paralegal, currently pays her phone bill and is helping her with a down payment on her next apartment, she said.
Fortunately, Aulani said, her newfound full-time employment at a marketing agency has improved her cash flow considerably. “I feel like next month is going to be the last month that she will be providing this for me,” she said, “and I’m hoping from then forward I’m able to just pick up my own expenses.”
“I don’t think (millennials) should be stigmatized that we seek that support, if it’s a viable option … as opposed to externally seeking that support and potentially putting ourselves in a worse position,” Aulani added, pointing to friends who took out payday loans and wound up paying enormous interest rates. “Things like that are preventable if you’re able to just handle that with your family.”
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Eric, a Jersey City-based finance associate at a major bank, says his parents have “always kind of supported (him) financially.”
“Growing up, the expectation was that I focus and do well academically,” said Eric, who also asked that his last name be withheld. “My parents had discouraged me from having a part-time job or anything, because they really wanted me to focus on my studies — so I never really tried to get a part-time job in high school or in college. I was also on the fencing team.” So Eric’s parents’ attitude, he said, was, “We’ll help you if you need some money. Just be a student; be an athlete … If you need money, we’ll see how much money you need and we’ll figure it out.” The money went mostly to necessities like food and gas, he said, as well as the occasional luxury item.
Eric, who graduated college in December 2011 without student loans and landed a job a month later, moved back in with his parents to save money. But even since he moved out in 2014, he said, they still kick him about $200 toward gas and food when he visits once or twice a month. “I think it’s because they worry about me and they just want to make sure I’m not hurting for money,” he said. “They do it out of just wanting to take care of me — I don’t want to take advantage of that. Because I do make a salary now; I can take care of myself.”
So why continue accepting the cash? “It’s free money,” Eric said. “I don’t see anyone else offering me free money.” Sometimes he accepts a portion of what his parents offer; other times he takes it all. But he tends to tuck the money away, he said: “If there’s an emergency, I know I’ll have some cash off to the side,” he said. “Or maybe I can buy my parents a gift with that money over time.”

PA Democrat ‘Welcomes’ VP Mike Pence with Middle-Finger Salute

21 Jun 2018

A Democratic state legislator in Pennsylvania “welcomed” Vice President Mike Pence to Philadelphia on Tuesday with a middle-finger salute.

Rep. Brian Sims (D-Philadelphia) posted a Facebook photo Tuesday of himself giving the middle finger to protest the vice president’s trip to the city for a Republican Governors Association fundraising event.
“OFFICIAL WELCOME: @MikePenceVP let me be the first to officially welcome you to the City of Brotherly Love and to my District!” Sims’ social media posts on Facebook and Twitter read. “We’re a City of soaring diversity. We believe in the power of all people: Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Atheist, & Immigrant. So … get bent, then get out!”
The 39-year-old Democrat is the first openly gay legislator in the Pennsylvania state house, and took the opportunity to use the obscene gesture as a way to appeal to his base of supporters.
Some of his supporters cheered the brazen gesture while other supporters warned him that his conduct in the photo is “unprofessional.”
“This is a worthy fight and I am so grateful to see someone in office expressing some actual anger at this monstrosity of a dictatorship,” one left-wing supporter wrote.
“I’m a supporter but posing for this picture is unprofessional and makes you seem crude. You can take Pence down more effectively by challenging his words and actions. You’ll be judged more harshly than he is,” another supporter wrote.
But opponents also flooded the comment section of his picture, deriding the state lawmaker’s actions as “disrespectful” and “childish,”
“Disrespectful … we need to get back to being classy in disagreements … happy you don’t represent me,” one Facebook user wrote.
“This is exactly why Trump got elected! So unprofessional and childish for a supposedly elected official!” another user chimed in.
Although the posts have received plenty of backlash, Sims had not deleted them as of Thursday afternoon. His posts have gained a massive following on social media, getting more than 39,000 likes on Facebook and nearly 6,000 retweets.

National Border Patrol Council Identifies Peter Fonda as a ‘Domestic Terrorist’ After He Threatened to Kidnap Barron Trump

Cristina Laila

As TGP’s Cassandra Fairbanks reported, Academy Award-nominated actor and filmmaker Peter Fonda is calling for Barron Trump to be placed in a cage with pedophiles, children of ICE agents to be threatened, and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to be stripped naked and whipped in public.
First Lady Melania called Secret Service after Peter Fonda threatened to kidnap her son, Barron Trump.
Peter Fonda also threatened Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and called for her to be stripped naked and whipped in public.
The unhinged actor went on to say that “Kristjen Nielsen is a lying gash that should be put in a cage and poked at by passersby. The gash should be pilloried in Lafayette Square naked and whipped by passersby while being filmed for posterity.”
Threatening government officials of the United States is a felony.
On Thursday, the National Border Patrol Council identified Peter Fonda as a domestic terrorist.

Peter Fonda threatened to kidnap First Son Barron Trump and put him in a cage with pedophiles from his Twitter account Wednesday.
Fonda deleted the tweet, however; his Twitter account is still active. Twitter has taken no disciplinary action against the washed-up actor.

Liberals Are Crazy. Will Voters Notice?

Over the last few days we have reached peak insanity, especially on Twitter. I can’t begin to recount all of the outrages. Apart from the whole nonsense at the Southern border that dominated the news, we had Peter Fonda, a former actor who was washed up decades ago, threatening Barron Trump to the extent that Melania Trump referred him to the Secret Service. We had a gang of socialists accosting Homeland Security Security Kirstjen Nielsen while she was eating dinner in a restaurant, and much more.
But maybe the craziest leftist outburst of recent days is the attack on NBA Hall of Famer Kevin McHale. Scott and Howard Root wrote here about President Trump’s triumphant appearance in Duluth, Minnesota last night. Trump almost carried Minnesota in 2016, and in all likelihood, if he runs again in 2020, he will win the state’s electoral votes. A photograph taken at last night’s rally that appeared on Twitter, if studied closely, revealed that one of the thousands in attendance was Kevin McHale, who grew up in northern Minnesota and spends summers there. This is the photo:

It’s pretty much a “Where’s Waldo” exercise, but if you study the photo closely enough, you can discern that McHale was one of the thousands in attendance. He didn’t speak, his presence went unmentioned, but he was there. And left-wing Twitter went nuts.
Countless liberals have demanded that McHale be fired from his job as an announcer of NBA games. Outkick the Coverage has a good summary of the “controversy.” This is one of countless examples:

Nathaniel Friedman

Kevin McHale is extremely stupid for attending a public Trump event. That, as much as his politics, is why he should never work in the NBA again

I don’t know who the first person to spot McHale in the photo — who zooms in to photos from political rallies to look at the people there unless it’s you looking for yourself? — but left wing sports Twitter immediately ran roughshod over the McHale connection, which was shared so much that McHale began to trend on Twitter.
The left wingers then tracked down Kevin McHale’s wife’s Twitter, decided some of her political opinions were unacceptable, and so deluged her with hate that she shut down her account.
At the same time many prominent sports media voices were arguing that McHale’s attending a Trump rally was unacceptable.

This is a phenomenon we have seen repeatedly over the last year and a half. Liberals try to rule any support for President Trump out of bounds. Anyone who expresses even the mildest support for Trump is read out of polite society. He is shunned; he should be fired from his job; if he writes anything, it shouldn’t be printed; he is publicly denounced and inundated with hate; his home, in some instances, is besieged and his children terrorized. If he ventures out into public, he is harassed by bullies. This is the essence of 21st century liberalism.
And it is evil. It is incompatible with democracy or any kind of civil society. And, above all, it is completely crazy. After all, Donald Trump won the election. Donald Trump is the President of the United States. Liberals are trying to dictate, through mob rule and control over the press, that any support for the President of the United States is unacceptable and, if at all possible, career ending.
How many Americans understand how crazy and evil liberals are? I’m not sure. Hardly anyone, in the scheme of things, is on Twitter. And the liberal press does its best to cover up its allies’ insanity. Still, I think word is leaking out. I can’t believe that Americans will vote a party this nuts back into power.
The unanswered question is whether conservatives–who far outnumber liberals in every survey–should adopt liberals’ methods. How about if we decree that anyone who supported Hillary Clinton must be fired from his job? How about if we harass identifiable Democrats when they go out in public? How about if we publish liberals’ addresses and home phone numbers and organize hate campaigns against them? How about if we demand that no news outlet publish any piece by a liberal, and follow up with boycotts and media campaigns?
Conservatives instinctively recoil from such tactics. But who knows? Maybe one of these days, liberals will no longer be able to count on the assumption that we are more civilized than they are.

Hey, Liberal Media, Canada Also Detains Migrant Children And Separates Them From Their Parents. Are They Nazis Too?

Hey, Liberal Media, Canada Also Detains Migrant Children And Separates Them From Their Parents. Are They Nazis Too?

Hey, Liberal Media, Canada Also Detains Migrant Children And Separates Them From Their Parents. Are They Nazis Too?

Right now, the Trump White House was forced to sig nan executive order that ended the separation of illegal alien parents from their children at the border. It caused days of mass hysteria on the Left. We’re becoming Nazi Germany. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a fascist federal law enforcement agency. These kids are in concentration camps. It was a full-blown exercise in insanity. I am unapologetic in this position: I want our immigration laws enforced. I want illegals deported, especially the gang-members that have poured across the border. Also, illegal aliens, don’t bring your kids along in this venture. Many a politician, Democratic and Republican, have said if the kids get here, we’ll send them back. What kills me is the position that these people take the jobs Americans don’t want. Right, so that gives them a pass to break federal immigration law? No. Sorry—that’s not how this works. If you’re not here legally and you get caught, pack your bags. You’re getting the hell out of here. What irritates the Left so much is that with Trump, we’re actually having our laws at the border enforced.
Still, the appeal to feelings—because liberals are all about feelings and all that sentimental crap—forced the Trump White House to cave. So, they did—and guess what—we’re still like Nazi Germany. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Democrats care more about illegal aliens than Americans, but that’s for another time. My question is when will the Left go after Canada? They detain migrant children. They’ve separated them from their parents. And in some cases, they’ve detained these for months at a time. My God—most of North America is Hitler, or something (via CBC News):

…Canada has also detained migrant children — and in some cases, has restricted access to their asylum-seeking parents — despite its stated policy to do whatever possible to avoid it.
Last year, 151 minors were detained with their parents in Canadian immigration holding centres.
Eleven others were held in custody unaccompanied by an adult, according to the Canada Border Services Agency. The CBSA would not speculate on the circumstances surrounding why a minor was unaccompanied.
The Canadian holding centres, which are off limits to the public, resemble medium-security prisons. They are surrounded by razor-wire fences and kept under surveillance by guards.
There are three such facilities across Canada, in Vancouver, Toronto, and Laval, Que. In some provinces, asylum seekers are detained in prisons.
A recent McGill University study found that detention can be a “frightening experience” for children, leaving them with “psychiatric and academic difficulties long after detention.”
Inside, boredom is “pervasive,” as children are often left “idle, sleeping or lying on the couches for long periods during the day.”
The minors detained last year spent an average of 13 days in custody, but the time period can vary significantly.
The study recounts how, in one instance, a six-year-old girl detained for more than six months asked her parents, “Are they gonna keep us here permanently?”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tired to claim the high ground criticizing Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda saying, “This is not how we do things in Canada.” Yeah—you do, bro, so here’s a piping hot cup of shut the hell up.
