Ask people to name the seasonal foods this time of year, and you’ll get a lot of pumpkin and peppermint. I bet that not one single person will mention the humble cabbage, which is just coming into season right now.
Can you blame them? It smells weird when it’s fresh and rotten when it’s cooked, and it tastes like… well… cabbage.
Let’s just say that plenty of people TOLERATE cabbage, but not many people actually LIKE it.
But if you have acid reflux, it’s time to learn to love this weird little green… and bring it into your life all year long… because it might be the best option you have right now.
You certainly don’t want to mess around with meds.
New research exposes an ugly new risk of the most common drugs given to folks with reflux, and it may be the worst one yet.
Taking these meds… even just SOMETIMES… can lead to one of the country’s deadliest forms of cancer!
Taking a proton pump inhibitor for reflux even once a week can more than DOUBLE your risk of stomach cancer.
That’s a form of cancer that doesn’t get a heck of a lot of attention from the mainstream.
Maybe it’s because docs don’t want to scare the pants off you — because this is one form of the disease they’re not making much progress against.
It can be caused by a poor diet of processed foods, certain types of fungi and bacteria, exposure to ionizing radiation, and now – as the new study shows – one of the most popular meds in the country.
Whatever the cause, the sad truth is that this cancer is a death sentence more than two-thirds of the time… and it’s a sentence you could be given by your own doc if he hands you a prescription for a drug for reflux or heartburn.
The more you use it, the higher the risk climbs.
Use PPIs for a year or more, and your cancer risk jumps by 500 percent. Use them for three or more years, and your risk skyrockets to EIGHT TIMES higher.
Why mess around with those risks when you’ve got better options?
Let’s start with the cabbage.
That weird, smelly, unloved green ball we often toss in the back of the fridge and forget about until it’s a rotten mess has the power to do what these drugs can’t.
It can END reflux WITHOUT the risks.
But don’t just eat it. Juice it and drink it!
If the taste is a little tough on your buds, add a little carrot. Or just hold your nose and knock it back fast. It’s worth the effort. Not only is cabbage cheap, but the juice can ease heartburn, reflux, gastritis, ulcers, and more.
Now, where’d I put the corned beef?
Getting ahead of reflux,
